Hi! I'm on a bread machine list, and I just happened to get this this morning...I know you guys were just discussing this in another post...
Here's the entire e-mail... :)

Bread Bowls (Bread Machine)

Makes 2 (6-inch) bread bowls

3 / 4 cup + 1 tablespoon water
1 / 2 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
3 / 4 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons FLEISCHMANN'S Bread Machine Yeast

Add ingredients to bread machine pan in the order suggested by manufacturer.
Select dough/manual cycle. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine
to lightly floured surface. If necessary, knead in enough flour to make
dough easy to handle.

Divide dough into 2 equal portions; shape each into smooth ball. Place on
greased baking sheet. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until
doubled in size, about 1 hour.

With sharp knife, make 4 (1 / 4-inch deep) slashes in crisscross fashion on
top of loaves. Bake at 375° F for 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Remove
from baking sheet; cool on wire rack.

Cut off 1 / 3 of loaf; hollow out loaf to form 1 / 4-inch thick bowl. Fill
bowl with soup.

Note: Check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; it should form a soft, smooth
ball around the blade. If dough is too dry or stiff, add water in 1-teaspoon
increments until the right consistency is reached. If dough is too soft or
slack, add bread flour in 1-teaspoon increments to achieve proper
consistency. Do not add more than 3 to 4 tablespoons of liquid or flour.

Thanks for posting this! I've tried making 2 different bread bowl recipes, and they both turned out badly. Maybe I'll finally have better luck.

I'm glad you guys like it...what kind of soup works best? I have a great cheesy potatoe chowder that is pretty thick...but how thick does it really need to be...chili too?

I guess I need to go down to the other post again and read up...
:)

Just did a search for Bread Bowls and this recipe came up!!! Just wanted to thank you for posting it...It is freezing rain here right now and so windy outside...I am going to make these with homemade Corn Chowder tonight for supper!! :)

Thanks!

Funny I found this.......we are going camping on the 19-21 for our annual halloween camping trip......a bunch of us are going (about 6 sites) and we decided to do a chili thing. Each site will make a different type of chili.......and I suggested the bread bowls. I think it would be too hard and time consuming for the amount of people going.......so we plan to buy them from a store who sells them around here.....Gordons Food Center (they sell all food things in big quantities)

Now I have to find a good chili recipe......only made it once.....with Chili Magic and DH didn't like it!!!

I think I will bring up some good creamed soups too.............

I will keep this recipe handy though......sounds good!!!

Lisa - I'm sure a Texan would probably cringe at me calling my recipe "Chili" but everyone here really likes it - in fact, DS's fiance always comes over when I make it.

1 lb ground meat
1 can tomato soup
1 can refried beans
1 can Great Northern beans
1/2 bag corn (frozen, defrosted)
1 pkg Taco seasoning
1 Tbl chili powder

Just brown the meat, toss the rest in & let it simmer. I can't remember right now if I put in a tomato soup can of water or not . . . . I guess you could just go by how thick it is - or isn't. I've also thrown in a bag of Lipton Rice & Sauce - Spanish flavor.

I'm allergic to onions & peppers, so I omit them - but DH would love it with them!
