AC casinos are closed

It s***s for the non-state workers... when they reopen you know they won't get paid, unless they use their vacation time, but the union reps/state govt. will be sure the state workers are paid for their time off. Great extended holiday weekend for (non essential) state employees!

edited because I thought s***s would automatically be edited, and it wasn't!!

will this situation affect the surrounding areas which are typically
frequented by tourists ?? (ie...ocean city, etc..)

and if so, what effect would it have ?

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face scenario! To lose all that revenue from the casinos is absolutely insane.

They suspended the free prescription plan for seniors but they are collecting tolls on the toll roads! :confused3 :confused3

Most of the tourists (shoobies lol) come to OC and the other shore towns for the beaches, boardwalk, etc and we do not depend on AC for the tourist industry. OC is "America's Greatest Family Resort". We don't even have public alcohol consumption, we're a "dry" town and I love it that way. The only town that really depends on the casino industry is AC. However, the state can NOT afford to lose the tax income from AC casinos. It's something like 1-2 million a day!

DH has to go to work but most casino floor employees aren't working and will only be paid if they take vacation time.

they won't pass the gov's budget so he threatens the casinos so they'll put pressure on reps to pass budget. Bully tactics which now is costing the state 1.5 mill in lost revenue.

I TRULY believed they would solve this before the casinos closed. ANd now the state parks are closed also.

I was getting ahead of myself lsyorke. I put two thoughts into one senseless sentence. What I meant to say was they close the casinos but still collect tolls on the state roads? What makes toll collection more essential than casino work?

Then they keep welfare and unemployment running yet take away the free prescriptions for seniors. It's all pathetic.

How about, because they won't get their way on where the additional 1% sales tax is going, they won't pass the gov's budget. Their inaction has now caused the gov to follow the constitution and close the state down costing the state over 1.5 mill in lost revenue.

It's all about the spin.

Of course it's about the spin!! It's Jersey!!! ;) It's about Corzine and Roberts. Corzine has nothing to lose in the political game, Roberts has ALOT to lose! I have more faith in Corzine as a proven business man and relative "newcomer" to the political scene, than those that have been in office for decades. The budget crisis didn't happen in the last week... it's been a problem every single year for years, yet here we are in this mess because those in power don't want this to effect the November elections. Where were the politicians that have been in office as a career? They were in charge of the state for years, and nothing has changed. We're still broke, all efforts to balance the budget have resulted in no change or an increase in the deficit for the state, and every year we blame the state workers. Well, now the state workers aren't around and everyone is ticked off. You can't have it both ways.

I have to give Corzine credit for guts! He's stopped the political machine in it's tracks... something that we've needed for decades.

no., they are privatley owned but you have employees of the casino control commision which is run by the state on NJ (someone correct if i have that worng lol). You have employees of the CCC in the casinos at all times.. they cant run without them.

Casinos give approx 2 million a day to NJ... hmm so lets shut them down and go further in debt.

Motor vechicle and inspection stations are also closed. as well as state parks, campground and beaches. The lotto has also stopped.

Personally, I am going to take my day trips out of NJ this summer.. and givre my money to another state. This is going to leave a bad taste with alot of people.

I agreee.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
