Activity bag

I want to put together an activity/goody bag (for the plane, hotel room etc.) for each of my nieces. My problem is I'm not sure what to put in them. My nieces are 8 & 5. Any ideas of what girls of this age would like?

My little girl has really loved the disney paint your own postcards. The cards come with their own paints on the bottom of each page, so you just need a small cap of water. The brush is in the pack, and then you can mail them to your friends from your WDW holiday.
Also, I look up printable puzzles and colouring pages, and stick them in a thick exercise book, the front is then holiday travel journal, the back is pages of disney puzzles and colouring that can be tailored to any individual child.

The Disney Store usually has a display with little kits/playsets that travel well. My kids always liked those big grade school workbooks you get at the warehouse stores too :crazy2: Little school nerds

I am putting coloring books, crayons, Disney princess Barbie dolls, a water wow set, snacks (specifically something chewy or that they can suck on to help with ear pressure on the plane), some wikki sticks, a Melissa and Doug reusable sticker scene set and fully charged tablet.
Michaels currently has a ton of Disney art kits on sale, and some of those would go well in a backpack and are contained.
A card game for the two to play together or with the family (thinking a memory game or uno may work well). Madlibs could be fun as well.

I highly recommend Walt Disney World Guide to the Magic for kids. It has info and pictures of all the rides and attractions, room for autographs at the back, a journal section for kids to write about their day, stickers, an Epcot passport-like section, info on Hidden Mickeys. It's a great book for kids to look through on the plane and keep them busy in the hotel.

Other than that, my D7 loves the scratch art activities where you use a small included tool and scratch away at the pictures (kind of like a scratch off lotto ticket) and it has a rainbow colored picture underneath.

I also recommend small bags of snacks and glow sticks.

Ooh, also, (and this works because we are not living in USA) their activity bags contain american sweets and snacks. Which are interesting and wdw holiday ish.

Someone mentioned it above but I think I'll try the Water Wow sets this time. And/or Imagine Ink coloring sets. Both are mess free and both can be found on Amazon.

I also like the idea from a poster above to try the Walt Disney World Guide to the Magic. Especially for the 8 year old. She can plot everything she wants to do.

Warning about crayons (and wikkistix) in the heat - they can melt and make such a mess! Sometimes they just get sticky enough to make hands a mess, other times they goop up and get really nasty!

Where did you find the paint your won postcards?

Was in Michael's this weekend and saw the Disney crafts and then the coolest water bottle thing - it wasn't for liquid it was a pencil case (fits in the backpack side pockets). Loved this idea.

When my nieces and DD were smaller and I was doing a bag I would always throw a mystery pen and pad in there (an invisible ink pin available at the book stores). Once my DD started reading I would also try and get a new book (You could do ever after high or the descendents series for the older niece if she is a strong reader - for the younger there are plenty of princess, disney books)

Also if you think they might like pressed pennies - M&Ms in the tube (so you can recycle into the quarter and penny holder). If they might like pin trading order a starter pack from Disney online with a discount and you could put the lanyard and pin in the bags as well.
