As a side note, England singing 10 German bombers in the air during soccer matches, I personally find disrespectful to modern Germany but most English fans don't seem to care (not against you but just something I notice about English culture).

You want to know something really sad about English culture? Soccer fans, throwing bananas onto the field aimed at African players. Such a stain on our way of life :(

That reminds me of drug testing at work in the USA. Not heard of here - very foreign concept.
Or making women return to work 6 weeks postpartum rather than a year.

I’m being facetious as I’m trying to figure out why you’d bring up a random news article from Kenya.
We were discussing freedom and women’s rights around the world. Pay attention!

The Adebayor chant is so sad and disrespectful. It made me do a double take to see if that really happened in England. I was shocked and dismayed.

Note to self- don’t fly on a Canadian airline.LOL. Not sure what your issue is with drug testing. I just had a preemploymemt drug test. I’m responsible for others safety. I’m ok with them not wanting to hirer a tweaker or a crack head.

Come here in 2026 or 2028 and I'll bring real American hot dogs instead of the weird ones you guys get in jars.

We're very cosmopolitan when it comes to our food over here. Pizza, Italian style. Fresh fish. Salads. Pastas. Indian. Chinese. Japanese. And yes, a few fast food places too, but far less than in the USA. Probably why we suffer from diabetes and weight problems comparatively so little. It's just a culture thing.

Many people here avoid fast food. More people are following healthier diets like the Mediterranean diet. It's mostly the poor areas where diabetes is higher due to increasing prices on organic and healthy foods.

To me a huge invasion of privacy!
Maybe a few select fields have it like you mention airline pilots but I’ve never heard of it in general until the Dis.

Or the federal government saying what my kids eat for lunch! That thread was eye opening.

Yes, however even though the smaller states have fewer electoral votes, each of those votes carries proportionately more weight, based on population…Same with the Senate, where every state (regardless of population) has two senators. Senators from smaller states have as much influence as those from populous states, who represent the interests of far more people.

Unequal representation in raw numbers not by action. You can't make a statement about representatives per population with the point that lower populated states have more influence and not expect pushback. Just because a state is lower in population doesn't mean they have more influence because they have the same number of representatives. What clout do you think WY has over CA? Or NE for that matter or MT.

Never said they have more influence. Reread the bolded part of my post above. Smaller states have as much influence (in the Senate) as larger states with many more people. It becomes problematic, IMO, when legislation is passed that does not align with the beliefs of the majority of American citizens. (And BTW, a separate issue is that Congress at times votes strictly along party lines, against the will of their constituents.)

As far as electoral college just because there is more updated information out there doesn't mean you get to just say it holds no significance when your whole point was population. The losses and gains and no change reflect population changes which follows your point about number of residents. And you're welcome to see the full list. I found it on Ballotpedia IIRC.

It’s the same concept. The Electoral College system, as it now stands, IMO, is not equitable to all and realistically won’t ever be, despite some shift in population. Can you tell I’m not a fan? I know you like to debate, but that’s all I’ll say on the topic, as I’ve already said too much and political discussion is off limits here. :wave2:

Where do ultra wealthy Brits go when they want the best and most technologically advanced healthcare in the world? Wouldn't you think the people that can afford anything would gravitate towards the highest standard of care in the world?
The standard of care in NHS hospitals in the UK is some of the best in the world and has better outcomes than US healthcare. Many of our specialists are world leading. Wealthy people may elect to go to private hospitals for less serious health issues like childbirth and elective surgery but believe it or not, would choose the NHS for more serious and complex health matters. It is very rare that any Briton goes to the US for treatment, and when they do, it is for a pioneering treatment that isn’t available here, not to get a better standard of care. Many European countries also offer pioneering new treatments that the US might not have, and all have some sort of national health care service. The US is one of if not the only western country not to have one, which should say something.

The NHS in the UK certainly isn’t perfect, needs more funding and can be improved, but it is pretty much universally valued and wanted by the population. Since WWII as a society we try to take care of each other and that extends to other things like legally protected paid maternity leave (up to a year), free and subsidised childcare, free mental health services, etc as well as crucial protections.
