I’m another person that hasn’t seen it.

The key to the answer is that it's a BRITISH Christmas movie. I grew up with British humour and love it, but not every American appreciates it. British humour is very different from American humour most of the time, and making a vignette film about both sad and funny situations that just happen to happen around Christmastime is a very British way to approach a holiday comedy film. It's very randomness is what makes it, IMO. That's the way Christmas really is, too -- we all have this romantic idea of what Christmas should be, but the reality is that it's never quite what you expect that it will be, and Love, Actually celebrates that.

I have now seen this movie. I love British humor. I do not like the movie. Too many whiny characters.

I actually like Four Weddings and a Funeral, which is by the same creator. The whininess of Hugh Grant is well offset by his madcap friends in that one. Bilbo Baggins naked isn't enough to redeem L,A

There is a PG version in which that whole character and storyline with Martin Freeman isn't in the movie at all. Some people reading this have no idea what you are talking about. :lmao:

Aww, really? Well, that's their loss. I love that storyline and the movie! I watch it every year. I remember when my mom and I saw it for the first time in the theatre. When they first showed those characters, the movie "stand ins", we just laughed out loud because we were so shocked. I wasn't expecting that from a Christmas movie, that's what's so great about it. I mean, Martin Freeman, Hugh Grant, Andrew Lincoln, Colin Firth... How could it get better?

So my daughter and I have been watching tons of movies since the pandemic started. Sometimes it feels like we're running out of really good movies we haven't seen. I've seen "Love Actually" on many "Best Christmas Movies" lists, so we decided to give it a try over Thanksgiving. I clearly had no idea what to expect. :rotfl:

We probably won't watch again. DD liked it, and I could see her watching with some college friends. But awkward to watch with Mom. So glad I hadn't planned a family night of movie watching. Yes, I know NOW that it's rated R. But I didn't expect to need to check the rating for a Christmas movie.

Regardless, I wasn't a huge fan. It was cute, but like others have said, too many plot lines for my taste. It was enjoyable to see it all come together at the end, but when you have that many plot lines, you never really get to go into depth on any of them.

Back to "White Christmas" we go!

Looked back, and watched this movie for the first time as a result of this thread, in 2015. Have watched it every year since with the family. We all love it!

I so wish I could watch it with my teens! The Billy Mack song comes on the car radio all the time and we always laugh. I love love love the Colin Firth storyline, anything Colin Firth 😍. It's a different type of movie and I'll take it over a lot of the standard feel good schlock any day.

Oops! I bet that was awkward. As I mentioned in another post, there is a PG version. The movie stand-ins storyline is totally edited out. That one is watchable with family. It usually airs on cable TV.

Yeah, I just wish I had known about the issue and we would have found the PG version to watch. It just never occurred to either of us to be concerned about the rating for a Christmas movie.

It's not Chritsmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza!
It is not Christmas till Emma Thompson asks if there was more than one lobster present at the birth of baby Jesus.

It's not Christmas until Alan Rickman cheats on his wife and then falls off a skyscraper! (If you watch those movies in that order, you come away feeling a bit that Emma Thompson got some justice.)

Love Actually is on TV now. I mean right this minute. :lmao:
It's the PG version without the 2 porno movie stand-ins so it's the family friendly version.:thumbsup2

The next times the PG version is airing on Freeform:
Fri Dec 17 at 9am ET
Sat Dec 18 at 7:35am ET
Sun Dec 26 at 1:30pm ET

Spectrum Cable also has the "R" rated version with the two porno movie stand-ins storyline On Demand for $3.99
