Anyone Up For a Little MAYcation?!! A May 2012 WDW PTR with a side of.....

Hello!

Welcome to my PTR!

Many of you already know me, so I will try to keep the intros short & sweet. Actually this entire PTR is going to be short & sweet since we leave in about 4 1/2 weeks!! :faint:

This will be our family's 8th trip to Walt Disney World! It's hard to believe we have been there that many times. Our very first trip was in 2005 and we were hooked and we just keep going back!! :cool1:

I am the mom. The wife. The Disney lover! The writer of this PTR. I have been married to my DH for almost 14 years and we have 2 wonderful boys. I work part time at my kids school as a Teaching Assistant. I am also a soccer mom, PTO mom, room mom, and all that fun stuff! In my spare time I enjoy shopping, photography, and of course everything Disney!

DH has become quite the Disney fan himself! He works a lot of hours as a Quality Assurance Inspector, so he really looks forward to our family vacations to the sunshine state! In his spare time he enjoys spending time with the boys and being outdoors.

DS12 is our oldest and will become a teenager 3 weeks before this trip. He enjoys reading, being with his friends, playing video games, riding his 4-wheeler, and loves roller coasters! He still enjoys Disney very much and I hope that doesn't change anytime soon. DS12 is very out-going and hilarious and is always the star of the show!

DS10 is our little guy. He is kind of bummed that Test Track will be closed during this trip, but little does he know we have a big surprise planned for him! (That is where part of the title comes in.....) He enjoys playing soccer, being outside, playing video games, and most of all Legos!! He loves Disney very much and I can always count on him if I want to talk about Disney! DS10 is very laid back and easy-going and a VERY picky eater.

Here we are last summer at the Poly ~

What are we celebrating on this trip? LOTS!! April 7 DS12 will turn 13. My birthday is April 17. And May 15 is our 14th anniversary. So our trip falls right smack in the middle of all those fun things! Plus when we get back it will have (hopefully) started to warm up around here and we will be looking forward to summer! Actually we can't really complain about the weather here too much this winter. It only really snowed about 4 times and we have had some abnormally warm weather in February & March!

Our WDW trip history includes: October 2005, May 2007, May 2008, Jan 2009, Nov 2009, Nov 2010, and Aug/Sept 2011. So as you can see we usually do a spring or fall trip. But last year we decided to brave it and go in the summer since DS was starting Middle School last fall. The trip was simply amazing! When looking forward to 2012 we thought about maybe going in late Aug/early Sept again (we don't start school until after Labor Day), but somehow ended up with a late April/early May trip! We are hoping to plan something big for summer 2013 since that spring I have a certain big number birthday and we will also be celebrating our 15th anniversary. So by going a little earlier in 2012 I guess it will give us more time to save and plan for 2013.

I guess that about sums it up. So come on in and make yourself comfortable and don't be afraid to post!! I look forward to sharing and planning with old friends and hope to make some new friends along the way too!

Hi Shelly! Wow - you've had a lot going on! I'm glad to hear things have settled down & your trip is still on!

We changed resorts... I'm sure you have heard about the pool closure at BC. Well, after much back & forth, we decided to save BC for another time when we can fully enjoy SAB. We are now booked in a 1BR savanna view villa at Kidani for our first three nights, before heading offsite.

I'm anxious to hear about your plans! :goodvibes

Yes, I am usually all packed and ready to go by now. But we just decided last night that the trip was back on, so I am WAY behind. :upsidedow

Yep, lots going on here. Too much.

So what exactly have you heard about the SAB closures? The info I am hearing now is that during their winter rehab they found something urgent that needs fixed and they will begin on April 9 and finish by the end of April.....I haven't heard an exact end date and that makes me nervous. :scared:

Here's what I know about Stormalong Bay... Some of my DIS facebook friends, who happen to be Disney travel agents, posted on FB about the closure on 3/13. I guess it was posted on the site late on 3/12 that the pool slide & "part" of the pool would be closed from 4/9-4/23. (Our onsite dates are 4/19-4/22.)

I had read about some work being done near the pool recently on the BC/YC thread so assumed it was related to that. I tried to get more info from BC concierge but didn't find out much. Finally Teena on the BC/YC thread asked the recreation people & found out that the whole pool that the slide dumps into will be closed. They are hoping it will be done by the 23rd but can't say for sure. And the letter we received from Disney states, "late April" as the end date. I don't think they want to commit to a specific date.

The entire area in red (both circles) is going to be closed. It's one of the three pools that make up SAB (I have two separate cirecles because I wasn't sure if the hot tub part was going to be closed, but it is).

So that's what I know... not sure what I'd do in your situation. :sad2:

I was sooooooo excited when I got an email from the DIS this morning with an update from your last TR. I knew exactly what that meant! :banana:

I am so glad to FINALLY know what has gone on with your DH's job! You really shouldn't leave a girl hanging like that you know! :rotfl:

You have no idea how many times I wanted to PM you and ask when you were going to be my neighbor, but I didn't want to seem nosey. :rolleyes1

I'm glad to hear that things worked out for you to stay put though since I know that will be easier on you and your kids. And I know this is my home, and I do love a lot of things about the south, but I think you made the right choice. There are times when we give serious consideration to DH taking a transfer elsewhere so we can get out of here. It's just not like it was when I was little. :sad2:

Anyway, I am really looking forward to talking with you more often again. I had serious withdrawals when your last TR ended. :laughing:

And I can't wait to hear what your little secret is. :idea:

Yes, I do know that 13 comes after 12, but until you said the dreaded 'T' word, it just hadn't occured to me. Where does the time go? I remember reading your first TR (I think it was your first anyway) and he just looked like a little boy. Has it really been that long ago? :confused3

Anyhow, tell your DH congrats on the promotion! I know all too well what a long and drawn out process that can be, and I'm so glad that it all worked out like you guys wanted it to.

Thanks for the info Amy. So WDW sent you a letter? I haven't gotten one. But my check in date is very late in the month. It seems that there is no definite date for it to be done. That stinks. I would be okay with it finishing up a day or so into our trip. Especially considering that if the slide is down they will shuttle you to the BWI pool! I just don't want it to go on the whole time. If I knew that were the case then I would switch to somewhere else. The trouble is that there is pretty much nothing else available without upgrading to CL or something like that, that is much more expensive. I guess we'll just wait it out at this point...

I'm just glad things are settled now. It's a shame that it took all this for DH's company to finally express their appreciation for him and all that he does for them. I am very happy for him, he works very hard and this was a long time coming.

More news about the little secret soon......I'm sure some of you could figure it out if you tried hard enough though.... :rolleyes1

Not looking forward to that stage of our lives. I wish they were little again!! :sad:

We got "the letter" on Saturday (several days after changing our reservation to Kidani). I heard others received it sooner so maybe they are mailing them out a little at a time based on your check in date. :confused3

Possibly some good news for you... I had planned on Test Track being closed but some of the websites that originally had "April" as the start date now list it as "TBD". :thumbsup2

So there's some hope that you might be able to sneak in at least one ride. My boys will be disappointed if both BTMRR & TT are closed!

OMGosh!! That would be fabulous if we could sneak onto TT before it closes!! :wizard:

My boys are totally bummed about TT and BTMRR being closed too.

Hey Shelly! I'm glad you are back! :yay:

Our oldest kiddos are really close in age! Morghan turns 13 on May 11th. I was going to ask you a HUGE favor. If I send you some money, while you are on your trip, might you be able to send her a Happy Birthday postcard from WDW? If it is too much trouble, I totally understand. We have a birthday trip planned but not until October so I thought this might be fun in the meantime.

Anyway, I missed reading your frequent posts. I'm glad the work situation is all figured out for the best!
