How far in advance can you book a cabana? Which one is closest to the kids area?

I booked about a month ago for late May 2015- about 10 months in advance. I need to call to reserve a second day later in our week. I requested near the kids area. I didn't know the number of the cabana, so I just said "near the bridge" and they seemed to know what that meant!

The cabanas by the Menehune Bridge are #'s 1 & 2. The Ka Maka landing cabanas are #'s 3-5. We definitely preferred the MB cabanas due to the location (central to everything). It may be a little noisy, but that didn't bother me at all. DD loved playing at the MB, so it worked out well.
They let guests pick their cabana location based on when they book, so the earlier you book, the better chance you have to choose your location.

I've read that the executive lanai is also a good alternative...can they be booked in advance, if so how far out?

We had a day at the Executive Lanai also. It was really nice since it overlooks the beach, but doesn't have electricity..so no fan, tv or fridge, and you do not get the dessert tray. I imagine it can be booked early as well. You need to call the hotel directly...and you may have to go through a few people because some will tell you it has to be booked the day of..but that is not true. You need to get an agent that will at least look into it further or already know it is a possibility.

Thanks! By chance does anyone know the price?

The fee for the cabana is $325 + tax and the Executive Lanai is $275 + tax. If you are a DVC member, you can get a 10% discount.

I couldn't find any posts in 2014 regarding the prices, but I found one from 2013 that showed these prices. The thread was during the construction so some of the cabanas were closed.

In 2013 the cost was $259 with DVC discount for the Executive Lanai, and the cabanas were approximately $325.

There is also an article on the DVC regarding the cabanas with photos.

The prices I quoted were what we paid in July 2014. The $259 sounds about right if you apply the 10% discount and add the 4% sales tax. With the discount and tax, the cabanas should be about $306.
