We are driving from my in-laws in Clearwater Beach and staying at CSR. Will there be any problems getting there around 9am or so to "check-in". I'm not expected a room to be ready, but to drop bags, pick up Resort ID, etc.

You can check in when you get there. If there is a room, you can go to the room. Otherwise, they will hold your bags, give you the resort id and you are free to roam.

The resorts are very accommodating when it comes to check in. If you arrive before the check in time, and your room is not ready, they will usually give you the room key and a number to call to check on the status of the room. We waited maybe 30-45 minutes at GF, and ate at Gasparilla's while we waited.
