Bob Iger back as CEO! Bob Chapek out

Hope Igers got some plans on how to go up against Epic Universe but he’s probably going to be more focused on building immersion breaking DVC buildings and finding more parking lots to charge for use of.

Glad to Cheapek gone but Igers the one who got the ball rolling on all of Cheapeks terrible decisions.

Iger can make fairly minor changes to the parks and get tons of goodwill from the fans. Thats why I think there will be some change.
The biggest immediate effect will be the morale boost amongst CM's. There are already plenty of positive reactions in the Cast community over Bob's return. Happier CM's = a better guest experience.

After that, Bob's focus will be on the more macro moves to boost investor and shareholder confidence. The Street needs to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Lastly, I'm guessing Bob will reach out to his senior leadership team (probably sooner rather than later) and ask each of them for a moving forward plan that will increase consumer/guest confidence and mitigate the bad vibes/experience/perception created during the Chapek regime. I think THAT will be the point where we will see what Josh D'Amaro and Bill Dierkson have on their wish lists and what on those lists is ultimately implemented. Some of those moves will be easier, and quicker to be implemented and others may be slow to follow.

One of the things we noticed on our last 2 trips was the much larger number of people using VIP tour guides. My daughter has DAS (Disability Access Service), so after waiting outside of the line for the amount of Standby Wait Time, we enter using the Lightning Lane Line.
The Lightning Lane lines extended way further back and longer waits than we’ve ever seen the Lightning Lane line (or Fastpass Line in the old days). 30 minutes is not uncommon.
For example, LL at Magic Carpets of Aladdin going all the way back to the Treehouse entrance, Safari LL with an extended switchback added to the queue, Remy LL almost all the way back to the restrooms.
After those kind of things, it doesn’t give ‘goodwill feelings’ to see multiple VIP groups being led past to board without waiting. I suppose it‘s part of the ‘get the maximum money per guest’.

I am not exactly sure how that is relevant? Iger literally just took over again in the last 24 hours.

My point was that he can buy back a ton of goodwill simply by making minor changes. There is still going to be a group that hates certain aspects though. As an example one of the changes he could make is limiting Genie+ sales further, thus making it easier to get rides you prefer, and thus solving for your DAS needs with short lines in LL.

As far as a 30 minute wait in a LL queue I can't say I have experienced that so I can't comment to that.

It has to do with goodwill and the feeling that the customers who pay most are the ones who matter most.
no, I don’t think it will change in 24 hours. This was just an example of how customer experience has been sacrificed

How long will it take for Disney to hire new Disneyland/Disney World CMs and perform serious maintenance on their rides (Disneyland's especially), now that Iger is back?

The problem is (and has been) that they just can't find enough people to work at the parks. It wasn't a corporate restriction on hiring.

I can only say I would have LOVED to have been a fly on the wall when Chapek got the news. I would also LOVE to know what MAJOR thing happened to have precipitated this - HAD to have been MAJOR - to be so summarily dismissed, just MONTHS after a 3-year extension was announced, and before his current contract was even up this coming Feb, and announced on a Sunday night at like 10 p.m. Eastern? I don't even know if we'll ever even know what really happened, but MAN - I'd LOVE to. Yes - I'm into salacious facts, in a case like this, and at least I ADMIT it - don't @ me!!!

I can also say that, from the little I do know about Josh D'Amaro, I hope they'll start grooming him during the 2 years that Iger's now in. Pete always says Josh needs studio/movie immersion - let's hope this will be happening now. The man definitely has a stage presence, and a magnetic and "human" personality, and the CM's and fans seem to love him. Kind of reminds me of Walt a bit. Plus, I think he's good eye candy, at least for me.:)

I know a lot of things might never go away, like outrageous price hikes, park reservations, and Genie+, but if they could just bring that sense of joy, wonder, and magic back, that would give me SOME hope - both as a fan, and a stockholder. They need to change the optics, and how they make people FEEL, especially your "legacy fans". (Yeah, that would be me, holding on to the small shreds of love I have left, but they've been slowly dwindling over the past 10 years or so - I was just about ready to sell my stock that I bought in the early 90's in the next few months, because I've become so disenchanted, when I heard this)

Just my thoughts, however misguided and optimistic they may be.

Disney executives staged revolt against ousted chief Bob Chapek
Rebellion by senior staff hastened reinstatement of predecessor Bob lger

Senior Walt Disney executives led a rebellion against chief executive Bob Chapek in recent weeks, which resulted in his ousting and replacement with predecessor Bob Iger, according to people familiar with the matter.

The covert campaign to overthrow Chap ek, which began in the summer, came after the outgoing chief executive lost the confidence of some members of his top team during a tumultuous 33 months at the helm of the media empire.

“A lot of people were approaching the board, Iger loyalists who felt marginalized,” said one person with knowledge of the talks.

Shares in Walt Disney rallied by as much as 10 per cent on Monday as investors wagered that Iger, one of America’s most celebrated media executives, could lift morale and boost returns at the company’s costly streaming unit. The company’s stock price remained up more than 5 per cent in early afternoon trading in New York.

Susan Arnold, chair of Disney’s board, contacted Iger a few months ago seeking advice on how to fix the problems at the company, said two of the people. “[The board] were clueless about what to do,” one person added.

Shortly after those talks, Disney executives began approaching the board to express concerns about Chapek’s leadership. Christine McCarthy, chief financial officer, was among the executives who complained, three of the people said. Disney declined to comment.

The final straw was Disney’s bruising earnings release on November 8, during which Chapek reported that the company’s streaming business had lost $1.5bn during the most recent quarter. Three days later, Chapek announced job cuts, telling staff in an email: “We are going to have to make tough and uncomfortable decisions.”

Iger, who ran Disney for 15 years before leaving in 2021, stunned Hollywood on Sunday night by agreeing to replace Chapek. Iger had handpicked Chapek as his successor after he won plaudits for his management of Disney’s theme parks division.

The changes at the top come after the company’s stock had fallen by nearly 40 per cent this year as Disney and others spent heavily to compete in streaming, a business that has been costly and less profitable than cable television or cinema.

Relations between the “two Bobs” quickly soured as Iger bristled over Chapek’s handling of Disney’s creative output and his management shake-up, which introduced more centralised decision making and empowered Chapek’s allies.

The decision to reinstate Iger, brokered by Arnold, came less than six months after Disney renewed Chapek’s contract for a further three years, quelling speculation of a potential exit. People close to Chapek said he became aware of the moves against him some weeks ago but was caught off guard by the speed of events.

The abrupt dismissal will entitle Chapek to a significant payout. Under his old contract, at the end of 2021 he was entitled to an estimated $54mn in cash and stock in the event of early termination. The company has not published the full details of his most recent contract.

Iger, 71, has agreed to stay on for two years to help steady the ship and choose another successor.

Iger, who delayed his retirement four times before finally leaving the company, said in a memo to staff on Sunday that he felt “a bit of amazement” that he was returning to the company.
As recession fears grow, investors have become increasingly concerned about the high costs of streaming, weighing on the valuations of all major US entertainment companies this year.
MoffettNathanson analysts expect Iger to “re-examine” Disney’s streaming strategy.

Steven Cahall, a Wells Fargo analyst, said: “While the announcement doesn’t solve all of Disney’s problems, we think investors will embrace it as it puts perhaps the best leader in media at the helm with a mandate to shake things up.”

Chapek took the fall for a lot of the bad decisions that have been going on but listening to the podcast as long as you smile while your doing it then it’s ok

I feel badly that any one loses their job right before the holidays. It's lousy timing. I don't care what type of golden parachute Bob Chapek gets from TWDC, it stinks to get fired. Well, Big Papa Iger is back and the folks will now have a new object to direct their anger at.

I'm not sure what DISBoards will do for traffick now that there are no masking threads and no Bob Chapek must be fired threads to keep the juices going. Things are about to get boring! :)
Bloomberg News reports Chapek will receive $23 Million severance package and possibly millions more if the stock price jumps.

Which of these did Iger start the ball rolling on?
  • Park passes
  • Genie+
  • No Magical Express
  • Removal of AP sales
  • Paid Events
  • Dramatic price spike increases
Iger's issue wasn't that he did something it was that he didn't really invest in the parks (until towards the end with the one big D23). I don't follow it that closely though so maybe I missed something.
All of those.

What is everyones reaction to Bob Chapek stepping down as CEO and bringing back Bob Igor as CEO I’m happy about this news I hope Igor can get rid of genie pass and bring back fast pass and make Disney World like it was in the 90s and early 2000s

Well, he won't be saying "Adults don't like animation", and that's good enough for me.
