Bump on pinky finger middle joint...where to start?

Hello all. 2 months ago, I suddenly developed a painful bump on the inside facing part of the middle joint of the pinky finger in my left (non dominant) hand. It isn't a skin lesion, it is a hard, immovable bump, seemingly on the joint itself. It keeps bumping into my wedding rings, which is painful. I did not injure my hand. I have no issues with any other joints. I am relatively young, just 40.

I have no issues with joint mobility on that finger. I have no stiffness or difficulty with bending my finger. It is not painful to bend my finger. It only hurts when I apply pressure to it or bump it.

In recent days, I have noticed pain creeping up towards the knuckle closest to the nail on the same finger. I have felt twinges of pain while using my hands in that area.

I have PPO medical insurance that allows me to self refer for specialty care. So, I am wondering if anyone has had a similar issue, what was it? Should I bother with my PCM or go straight to a specialist? If so, what tyoe of specialist would I go to?

What is so strange is that when I bend my finger, the lump disappears, and returns when I straighten my finger. What could this be???

The beginnings of arthritis maybe?
I have bumps on a couple different joints on my hand. Its arthritis but there is no pain or stiffness yet.
Id go see your primary care.doc and start there. Good luck!!

I would see my PCP. Sounds a bit like a ganglion cyst which l’ve been told are harmless but can cause pain depending on the location.

thanks everyone. I have a physical coming up mid October. I will just mention it then.

How long have you had your wedding ring? Maybe try to keep it off till your Dr's appointment and see if that helps.
