BWV _ 1 BedRoom Big River Grill

If you have rooms reserved by renting DVC points (we have a 2 bedroom preferred view villa rented with points), is the DVC owner the only person that can make room requests? Could we request an upgrade to BW view when we check in, and what would be the odds of getting it?

Yes, DVC owner would make the requests.

We have never been upgraded, but I'm sure there are others who have. Going from a preferred to BW view is very unlikely. In 2012, we had a preferred view book for 1 night and standard the rest of the week. The manager came out and said that DVC rooms are separate from Disney rooms and that they can't make changes....we just didn't want to switch rooms after 1 night and save them the cleaning :confused3

Boardwalk View isn't an upgrade or a request, it's a different reservation category. You will not be able to change to it at check in.

Answers, in order:

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Zero.

DVC doesn't upgrade into different categories like standard cash hotel rooms do. You get what you pay for and have booked, nothing more or less. The only exception is if there is a maintenance issue in "your" room and there are no other equivalent rooms available. In that case, the resort manager has the discretion to move you- and usually will either move you to a "better" accommodation, refund some points, or possibly both.

Please don't even ask about an upgrade at check-in. There have been horror stories posted previously here, about renters "upgrading" their room to a larger one or higher view category at the check-in desk, and the owner getting more points pulled out of their account as a result- sometimes even points from their next use year.

In your specific instance, Pool view and BW view are the same point cost per night, but this does make a big difference in points per night at several other resorts. So I'm glad you asked the question here, in that other readers can also see the answer...
