Home again - still having some difficulties.

Much slower response time - Unable to open pages

Hopefully we can figure something out as I see there are other RoadRunner DISers having difficulties too.

I don't have any answers for you, Oldkicker, but I did notify the webmasters.

I'm on @home and I'm just blazing tonight.

When it works, it works FAST! Just being persnickety about working, it seems.

Thanks Lisa.
:D

Times out at 10.0.2.69 everytime. Does this help?

It remains an issue at home. Thank you Scott!

You are going from Syracuse to Rochester along with some intermediate hops then to a reserved block?you then T.O.( which isn't necc. bad), then Atlanta (the DIS server).

At least that's what it looks like. How do you find out who the hop 13 and 14 belong to?

Anyone?

It's all RR from 2-12. I'd call them and ask them why you're having the problems.

JC

I'm having problems at the 10.0.2.nn hop also.

Not sure how you are going to find out what the 10.0.2.69 address is. That is a Class A or /8 address reserved exclusively for internal networks and is not a broadcast address.

Typically a 10.x.x.x address will be behind a firewall and won't be visible on the internet. As this range of addresses is not broadcast, it can be reused on many different internal networks.

Can someone that is on RR and having the problem get me a bit more information please.

Open a cmd window like Scottwdw did when he did the tracert and type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes) and give me the addresses of your Default Gateway and your DNS servers. You should edit out your Physical Address (MAC address), IP address and Subnet mask for security purposes.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, I did PM that info....more here...spoke with RR, they are claiming DNS issue at DIS.

Tracert shows consistent timeouts at 24.218.190.129 and 10.0.2.5

I have an open ticket with RR and will follow up - being handed off to L2 support.

Bummed.

I'm also having trouble and I use a cable modem thru Roadrunner. I can see the boards but I cant use chat. It just freezes up.

Here's a traceroute from my Mediaone cable modem...

DISBrdTR.jpg

From the traceroute output, it would appear that 10.0.2.69 is the gateway address for the DIS server. However, in today's world of VPNs and VLANs, who knows for sure anymore?

I should point out though, that my connection to the DIS is fast and reliable. No problems here.

I am unable to get to this message board if I just use my RR and internet explorer. If I sign on to AOL first, then I am able to:confused: I am using the same cable modem and computer both ways, why does one way work and the other doesn't? I have read all the posts in this thread and the other tread about cable modems...but unforunately I am not a techie type person so I barely understood any of the technical advice:( So if anyone can help me figure this out AND can do so speaking English, I would love to hear from you:p

Thanks
Jules

I'll try (and pleas,e you techies - chime in here!)...It looks like what is happening is that somewhere between your PC and the DIS, your connection to the DIS is getting lost. The screen prints shown above are used to track down where.

If you press your Start Button, then Run and type in Command, you'll get a DOS window. In there type in TRACERT WWW.DISBOARDS.COM and you'll get the route that you go through to get to these boards. Look for Request Timed Out in that list. That'll show where things are go awry.

Best bet then is to call RR help or go to their online help.

I hope that this makes some sense.

BTW - my connection, which had been terrible, is screaming quick today at home.

I was having the same problems with my cable modem and roadrunner. As of right now it seems to have passed. I will try chat later, thats where most of my problem was. I hope things have settled down.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

All of the problems I've been having accessing the boards and getting pages to load seem to have vanished. My connection is flying! I'm afraid to get too comfortable with DISing again in case it's a weekend fluke (how's that for being a pessimist?). I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the bugs and kinks have been fixed but if you don't see me around - send help. ;)

I believe that several people called and started service tickets at the provider to look for and fix this problem. I also believe that one of the webmasters here on DIS also entered a service ticket with them. Hopefully they found and fixed the problem.
