Can a minor return to the ship alone from Castaway Cay?

If my teen son wants to return to the ship alone when he is ready, may he, or must a parent be with him to get him back on?

You will just need to fill that out when you do your online check in! They ask those questions on the forms. We allowed our 14 year old to do this and although I did worry (ugh!) it was perfectly fine! He did great!

He can return on his own. My 14yo DD returned to the ship on her own from CC when we were there a few weeks ago. No issues.

There's no form for this on DCL. My DD did it and I never filled out a form for her. The forms are for if you want your child to be able to get off the ship with an adult from another stateroom. A minor can't get off the ship without an adult but they can return to the ship with no issues.

Actually there is a new spot in online check in that has you answer if the minor can leave and return to the ship unaccompanied from port.

Here is the new section

Thanks. I don't remember this question when I filled out my online check in last.

We cruised June 10th, (dream) and we definitely answered questions about what our 14 year old was allowed to do as far as getting on and off the ship at ports and castaway cay during our online checkin.

That still only pertains to leaving the ship with or without an adult. A child will always be allowed to return unaccompanied.

Enjoy your cruise!

Good catch. I honestly didn't even look at the screen shot to realize it still only pertained to leaving the ship. I knew in the past kids were able to return to the ship unaccompanied and hadn't heard of any changes.

Yes, but obviously if they can leave the ship unaccompanied, then they can return unaccompanied. It's not like they can just go pick up a random adult to escort them back. OP was asking if they child can come back unaccompanied. Another post said that there is no form that asks that. I was showing the screen shot that there is indeed a place that asks that.

Well, yes, if they can leave unaccompanied they can return without an adult as well. However, that form is unnecessary for OP’s situation. The child can leave the ship with his parents and still return alone; there is no form for that.

I returned alone on all 3 of our cruises (2 were pre-18). I feel like CC is an extension of the boat :)

It is actually awesome how they can just get back on solo. I find our teen always wanted to leave the beach earlier than we did and it would have been such a hassle to escort him back to the ship and head back out to the beach-- especially in the afternoon when you are just so happy and lathargic just lying there on your lounger!

Until you tried to leave the ship unaccompanied... that requires permission, in every port, including CC. Minors may re-board the ship unaccompanied in all ports, no prior permission needed.

Enjoy your cruise!
