Canadian Buffoon's Hi Low Vacation - South Central Musings

YES!!! Always gives me a giggle!!! :)

::yes::

As long as it's not me.

Gotta wonder though...
Easiest thing would be to make
the camel spit automatically
at timed intervals...

But if you hit a baby in a stroller?
Or splash someone's expensive camera?

::yes::

As long as it's not me.

Gotta wonder though...
Easiest thing would be to make
the camel spit automatically
at timed intervals...

But if you hit a baby in a stroller?
Or splash someone's expensive camera?

Yeah.... Not everyone would get a giggle.... and after the first time I rode, Every time I went past that darn camel I would move my carpet so I wouldn't get spit on lol Or at least tried... because kids haha! ;)

Well, at DL I've brought it, but my friend Bret (who is a phenomenal photographer here on the DIS), got turned away a couple weeks ago with his.

Really!
Well, then I guess
a measurement is
in order.

Foreshadowing.... :scratchin

Nah. Not really.
No drama or anything.

Not a sports fan in any form of the game, but I know this much, the Cubs were playing? The CUBS? I do beg to differ, the Dodgers were playing!

Whoops!

Wait....
How can you say
you're not a fan,
and then insist that
the Dodgers are playing???

Oh yeah. But then I heard the score on the news this morning. Maybe the Dodgers weren't playing.

:lmao:

That's funny. While I was responding to your update, I was watching the circus, and playing a drinking game. Take a drink every time someone lied. I was pretty tipsy by the time I got to the end of responses!

This explains soo much.

Day, he say day, he say day, he say day, he say day, he say day...

It's interesting we've booked a mix. I hope I don't burn out on the Fancy Pants stuff before we get to the down to earth eats!

Guess we'll find out
when you write about it!

Well I'm glad you're here to entertain us! I even showed the pic to Fran.

What did she think/say?

At DL it was down for like a year.

There was a rumor that they put the tracks down upside down and had to redo it. However the ride is so smooth now and the effects are spectacular. Last time I rode it at WDW, I swore it off until after the refurb happened

Upside down???
No. Way!
Can you imagine
trying to explain that one?

This I understand, and about where I start when riding HM.

I know. I stole it from you!

I read about this on Wikipedia and don't know if my lens has one of these. It's a Sigma 18-255, I'll have to look up details on the computer at some point.

No. Not the lens,
the camera.
Most cameras have
APSC sensors.
The more expensive,
higher end ones
(read: pro)
have full frame.
So a 50mm lens
on a camera with
an APSC sensor
is equivalent to
(roughly) a 75mm lens.

Yeah... Not so much.

Actually ever since I got back into photography (2014), I've been watching nighttime parades with a passion.

That, I understand.

You do realize that was my answer to "do you see it?" And yes they used the Lenny Kravitz song for Southwest Airlines commercials.

Yep. I got it.

You shoot in RAW? Fran bought me a giant media card so I could experiment with it, but I just haven't had the time to see how it makes my photos better. I barely have time to remove unwanted people and "stuff" in the backgrounds.

RAW is only useful
if you have the software for it.
The jpg that most use
gives you the finished product.
The RAW file is everything the
sensor captured,
So you can (within limits)
change almost anything.
Like exposure, or white balance.

Considering I've actively watched the parade about five times and photographed it for the last two years. Yes.

I suppose that would do it!

::yes:: I'm sure Disney doesn't have a contingency plan for feather dusters.

 No, probably not.

U OK too.

OK. Obviously by that point my drinking game was going very well.

::yes::

Yes when we visited in 1997, I saw one off my balcony at WL.

Gotcha.
You probably got a better
look at it than I did.

When I said I was being snarky and channeling a psychic vision that had to do with my guess. I had originally said Lizard, but something told me to guess armadillo. Every time I go back, I keep hoping I'll see another one, but I haven't since that time almost 15 years ago.

Ah!
I never hoped to see one,
since I never had
and never expected to.

And if I'm singing, I was really "happy"!

So just triple checking that includes my answer to "did you see it?"

::yes::

That's me trying to be specifically vague and not spelling it out for everyone else exactly which picture it is and what it says. Even though it's already been done. Many times.

You did a good job there, too.

Been there…
At least no one saw it though (except the birds flying overhead)

Yup. Your episode was
much worse than mine is.
I'll be okay in a couple of weeks.

Heal quickly and may you not have to go through the remedy that my injuries required.

Thanks.

Is this not the definition of a TR in the first place?

Good point. You may be right.

center-of-universe-271x300.jpg

Reminds me of a joke Canadians
(who live outside of Toronto)
have about folk who live in Toronto.

How many Torontonians does it take
to change a lightbulb?

Just one.
But he just holds the bulb
as the universe rotates around him.

Does this not defy one of the accepted laws of physics?
(or did you not study law)

No, I didn't.
But I did do Phys Ed, so that's close, right?

Seven? Try twenty-five…
That and the trip back that evening was the last straw.

That's not possible,
because Disney sends a bus every 20 minutes.

:rolleyes1

Found myself doing the same thing a couple days later.
That was an interesting bit of history to learn.

::yes:: It was someone posting
about it on the DISdads thread, wasn't it?

The bottom side of water…
Or maybe the underbelly or water.

Oy.

Doubt anyone saw that one coming.

Actually, some did!

That… Does. Not. Get. Old.

Never does.

Whaaaaaa?

Now that’s pretty much how I feel most every other day that I’m conscious; wishing I hadn’t even woken up. But not usually how I feel at Walt’s place.

Nor I.
Luckily it didn't last overly long.

Now I get it.
Note to self: allow the train of thought to enter the station before boarding

That's an excellent plan.
And I like it, too.

Not at all…
I’d start up a long dissertation on this, but that –would- cause tears.
(possibly mine)

And the last thing I want to see
is a grown man cry.

Been doing enough of that with my back, lately.

You need to upgrade to the ones the NSA is using.

Nah. They're using mine.

Wow! Just like South Dakota!

The land of the free H2O.

Good to know.
Now I’m certain I need to add this spot to my next trip down there.
Thought about it this time, but I had other plans that needed to take precedent.

I'd try it again.
Possibly ordering the same thing.

Well, that and the Kungaloosh.

Never heard of it.

It's Taiwanese, but you can find it
here and there.

At least they weren’t Schweddy Balls

One of the best SNL skits.
And probably the best Christmas one.

Well, I can’t say that y’all had Cheetah me, ‘cause you’d know I was Lion.

:sad2:

Not much…
The pay back comes when it’s you in the other line

Yeah, did that the previous
trip with Kay when she insisted
on standing in line for Splash.

Bravo!
One of the better variations on the theme that I’ve seen.

Thanks! :)

Or maybe a crusty upper.

Better than a soggy bottom.

Annnnnnnd… he’s back!

Please. Must you use the "B" word?

Either that or she wanted to bury the hatchet.

You cut to the chase.

Melts or cuts?

Fillets.

It was the magnetic pull of BTMRR
We felt it a lot this time (and the accompanying longing that went with it)

You're probably right.
Man I wanted to ride that.

The same ones that throw half eaten turkey legs in the hedges.

People do that?!?!? What the heck is wrong with people??
Makes me want to go to their home and do that.

Nor any desert.

Love your dry sense of humour.

The only way to properly enjoy the best treat in the park.

Hunched over it, snarling at anyone who comes close?

It was a close call though.

Never come between a man
and his Dole Whip float.

Naaaa, the witch chased him off.
She prefers to sow the (apple) seeds of discontent.

Aint that the strudel.

That’s unfortunate.
I hate it when I do stuff like that.

Yeah. So glad I lugged it
all the way there.

Saw Mickey first; had to look for a moment to find the eye. Minnie was the toughest to find (given the limitations of the monitor I was viewing the images on at the time)

Oh really? I thought Mickey was the hardest to see.
Given his location.

They’ll fix it when the show reopens up at Disney Ontario

Honestly... I hope not.
I like the fact that it's a little bit far away.
Too close and I'd go too often
and I'd be afraid that some of the
anticipation of going would be muted.

Sashay in, perhaps?
If you were already a specter then to gild in might be appropriate as well.

I know you meant to say 'glide'
but I kinda like the golden answer.

Pretty sure he was there the a couple days later.

Maybe I'm mistaken then.
Weird. Because I was specifically looking.

I decided to skip several things this time around for similar reasons.
Maybe next time.

Yeah. Sucks, but...
There's so much to see/do in Disney
that it's okay.

By surviving
(doing so comes at a price, ya’ know)

So I'm learning.

Me neither, actually.
Sounds like there’s a good bit of Mount’en dialect influencing that one.

Huh. Wonder if it's just a personal thing
instead of a regional one.

Nope

Yachtsman

Stork or Egret

Noted.

They upgraded from stagecoaches to aircraft, I see.
Quite advanced for the 1870s
(although I’m sure they still treat the passengers like livestock)

Livestock R U.
That's our other motto.

Yeah.... Not everyone would get a giggle.... and after the first time I rode, Every time I went past that darn camel I would move my carpet so I wouldn't get spit on lol Or at least tried... because kids haha! ;)

Wait... You got spit on when your rode???
I've never seen that.
I only know of the camel
that spits at people as they walk by.

Wo! That's quite the update! I thank you for all the time you're putting into this report for those of us who won't be going back until next summer. I've never been in the fall, your pictures make me want to be there so badly!

The magic was late in hitting you huh? I understand that. You needed to decompress in order to make room for the fun that was about to happen. We all do this...we work and work and work leading up to the vaca, we clean, we pack, we organize and arrange and plan.....then we're supposed to drop down a gear or two and enjoy. How?! Luckily for us that magic is some pretty powerful stuff.

Well, sure...
But I think it took over a week to get to Fran and Alison.
Even with ziplock, they're gonna be stale. No?
Should I risk it?
[/QUOTE]
sure you could pull it of. I became quite a pro at that when the son was in the army and stationed in Iraq. at least he and his buddies said the stuff was good. Loved your reference to that episode of Magical world of color. It had Donny Osmond and kurt russel in it. I also remember watching it like all good Osmond Brother fans did lolhttp://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=haunted+mansion%2c+donny+osmond+kurt+russel&view=detail&mid=C4FA91A593887F1508E5C4FA91A593887F1508E5&FORM=VIRE

wooo hooo still in first place!
glad I had some time to check in here today. working until around 9 tomorrow night (staying after school helping with the football game, the other school is also in our city so we will fill both sides of the stadium for sure)
I will get to my guesses in a bit bot for now,

"you drank WHAT!?"

OK, so I'm so far beyond late, that the Mad Hatter was early compared to me. I'd need a time machine to go back in time to be fashionably late. Even with the gentle reminder in a personal message saying, "Hey here's your party invitation" and I still couldn't get with the program.

Only one excuse (as I could give you many which you wouldn't care one iota about) was I was spending the first week of the month dodging Hurricane Matthew and giving him the proverbial finger as I flew to the Caribbean for a dive trip with 11 friends. Good news is he got mad for being flipped off and stayed away and we had a great week and I got to do 18 dives! Saw all the usual suspects, turtles, eels, rays and sharks along with fish galore! You really should come dive with me and see that there really isn't a glass wall with people on the other side!

So, I'm not even going to try and catch up on points. Loved the Splash Mtn photo! Awesomeness personified! (Also I didn't see the Goofy Eye -- is that like the evil eye---until you mentioned it--I saw Mickey and had to scroll back up to see the evil Goofy Eye). But I couldn't really let this one go by without some serious comment:

Not a cat.
An armadillo.
First one I've ever seen.

How exactly could you mistake this:
images

For this?:
3ef8dc685d4c099feefca8e14fbf372b.png

I'm from the Southwest originally and I can tell you that Armadillos aren't even close to fuzzy and cute!

I do have a cute (but not fuzzy) Armadillo story, though--friends and I were driving through West Texas and there was a dead armadillo on the side of the road (a common occurrence because when armadillo meets car they roll up into a ball then have this terrible tendency to jump up right as the car passes over--but I digress). Picture an armadillo turned turtle (see the sea reference there?) So Dead armadillo on it's back with feet sticking up in the air (dead cockroach style). Someone had taken the time to stop and offer the poor guy a drink so when we passed by the dead armadillo was cradling a Coors can in it's feet.

Yes, we are lacking for good entertainment in the Southwest, and also the drive across Texas and also New Mexico is about the most boring drive you can encounter, so even the little things (see dead armadillo above) become entertaining!

Anyways, enjoying the trip report as usual. I'll probably turn ghost (but not ghost host) and only pop in on occasion because this evil think called work keeps me too busy. Glad you returned Home for a bit. Thanks for the invite!

well just read an email from Toyota, there was a recall on the passenger side air bag on my little blue car. They have had her since the end of July, waiting for the air bags to come in to replace it. THey have me in a rental that they are providing but jeesh what a pain in the neck. short version, at least another month. *thud*
in other news, over heard on It's a Small World, Papa aka lance was telling lil Miss Scarlett the countries at the beginning, "look! the north pole, etc, then he said look scarlett, Canada when the Mountie came into view. Lil Missy said, "That's not Canada papa, that's Ponzie" (we always wave and say hi ponzie,at the Mountie, )

for my guesses
I guess you sleep in until 7:30 (for some of us that is sleeping in lol)
I think you are off to the studios first
and then to epcot
thinking you see bag check 3 times
asked for directions 3 times
get back to your room at 10:30 pm
I think you walk between the studios and epcot
I think you eat at syfy
and I think you also go to beaches and cream
wild animal is a squirrel (if I stick with that I might get lucky eventually)
sure I saw it! the thingie next to the whatjamacall it
glad you got to see the parade, we saw it when we were there in 2014. realized how much we missed it. rumor has it we are getting it back while wdw will be getting our paint the night parade for their 45th. if they do send ptn out there you really need to see it. make sure to allow yourself a chunk of time to get a good spot. it is amazing. I recommend seeing it twice if you want to take pics tho. once to enjoy it and once for taking pics. it is increadible

Wait....
How can you say
you're not a fan,
and then insist that
the Dodgers are playing???

Because it was all on the new about them in the playoffs before I left. I start the news at least 15 minutes in so I can forward through commercials and the sports, but I caught one story about then being in the playoffs and one reporter used to put on his Jersey for luck, but every time he did it they lost. So last week he threw the jersey on the ground and stomped on it and they won and moved forward in the playoffs.

In WDW I can't forward so I had to listen to the story this morning about the Cubs and Dodgers and how bad the Dodgers lost. Plus I'm seeing stuff in my FB news feed about the dodgers.

This explains soo much.

::yes:: :lmao:

Day, he say day, he say day, he say day, he say day, he say day...

I stole this for my next chapter.

Love this photo, the pumpkins are amazing.

Is it just me?
Or does Goofy's eye creep you out?
And were you so focused on that,
that you failed to see Minnie?
Or Mickey?
Bonus points if you tell me.

I see Minnie pointing/yelling at Goofy and this is the face that he is loosing his mind and plotting Minnie's demise.

"Don't you talk to yo gramma like that.
You gotta fetch it to ketch it!"

I dont know what this means, but I love it.

1. Well, I may have been awake

9. duck

I've never seen that.
I only know of the camel

Yes! It is on one side. Doesn't always spit on timer. I'm sure if you look on youtube, maybe you'll see it for the ride.

How many Torontonians does it take
to change a lightbulb?

Just one.
But he just holds the bulb
as the universe rotates around him.
Yep, I can see where that would be the sentiment.
We say similar things about various areas ranging from entire sections of the country to specific local neighborhoods. That’s a lot of little universes; lends a bit of credence to Multiverse Theory.

That's not possible,
because Disney sends a bus every 20 minutes.

:rolleyes1
I sense the voice of experience may be tipping its hand here.

I know it’s been my experience far too many time to forgive

::yes:: It was someone posting
about it on the DISdads thread, wasn't it?
Yep.
I forget who brought it up, but it made for a nice diversion doing the reading and research that afternoon.

That's an excellent plan.
And I like it, too.
May have to copyright that one.
It will most certainly make its way into general rotation.

And the last thing I want to see
is a grown man cry.

Been doing enough of that with my back, lately.
Hope you’re getting closer to normal.
That foolishness is tough to deal with.

Nah. They're using mine.
Interesting…
They’re not much known for interagency cooperation, so I suspect that either they are providing you with disinformation of you’re forwarding bogus details to them.

I'd try it again.
Possibly ordering the same thing.

Well, that and the Kungaloosh.
I’ll consider the endorsement
I’d like to see more varied options in the MK in the future but they have been headed in the right direction.

It's Taiwanese, but you can find it
here and there.
Research done, aaaaaaaaand…
Pass.

Now, to be clear, tea is my main source of liquid intake.
Black tea, chilled or room temp, straight (no ice, no sugar, no lemon or fruit juice)
Milk is ok if the tea is hot, but tapioca?
Not a big fan of that particular root.
Oh, and “gummies” are just plain disgusting.

Hay, the waitress started it!
It was an unavoidable consequence.

Better than a soggy bottom.
The common result of most water based rides.

Please. Must you use the "B" word?
Sorry ‘bout that Chief.

Again… heal quickly sir.

You cut to the chase.
Pays to stay sharp.

You're probably right.
Man I wanted to ride that.
Us too. Not many “dynamically aggressive” rides that Tam can handle, but that’s one we never miss.

Up until this trip at least.

c'est la vie

Hunched over it, snarling at anyone who comes close?
Precisely.

Aint that the strudel.
Hay, when the schnecken beckons…

Oh really? I thought Mickey was the hardest to see.
Given his location.
Might be the result of how it appeared on my monitor.
Given the wide disparity of age and quality between the devices, I get very different perceptions of what images look like depending on weather I’m at home or in the office.

Yeah. Sucks, but...
There's so much to see/do in Disney
that it's okay.
True.
Being just me and the Mrs. this last outing we spent a lot of time *not* running around and focused on two types of experiences in particular…
Those that may be disappearing in the near,
And those that most young’ens hate.

Huh. Wonder if it's just a personal thing
instead of a regional one.
Possibly, or maybe a bit more localized.
Like I said, sounds a bit more like a Mount’in dialect phrase rather than generally South’rn.
Same greater geographic area; very different historical experiences and influences.

I like the phrase, though.
Gets to the deeper point.

Wo! That's quite the update!

Is that a good thing
or a bad thing??

weren't in it.
But kind of hard to get
rid of paying guests!

Interesting vid, but it's not the one I was thinking of.
The one I saw was more quick snippets
as they talked about the new Magic Kingdom
that was opening or had recently opened.

wooo hooo still in first place!

::yes::
But can you keep it going?

glad I had some time to check in here today. working until around 9 tomorrow night (staying after school helping with the football game, the other school is also in our city so we will fill both sides of the stadium for sure)

Sounds like a fun game to watch!

I will get to my guesses in a bit bot for now,

"you drank WHAT!?"

:lmao:

Took me a bit to figure out
what you were getting at...
But when the nickel dropped...

OK, so I'm so far beyond late

But you're here now!
:welcome: to the TR!

I'd need a time machine to go back in time to be fashionably late.

Nah. You're right on time.

Only one excuse (as I could give you many which you wouldn't care one iota about)

Of course I'd care!
But you don't need an excuse.
I'm just happy when a familiar
face pops by for a visit.

was I was spending the first week of the month dodging Hurricane Matthew and giving him the proverbial finger as I flew to the Caribbean for a dive trip with 11 friends.

Oh, cool!

Good news is he got mad for being flipped off and stayed away and we had a great week and I got to do 18 dives!

18!! Holy smokes!
Most I've done at a stretch was probably 6.
And that was in... 1982.

Saw all the usual suspects, turtles, eels, rays and sharks along with fish galore! You really should come dive with me and see that there really isn't a glass wall with people on the other side!

Wow.
Toats jealous.
I'd take you up on your
offer in a heartbeat.

So, I'm not even going to try and catch up on points.

You sure? Not too late.

Loved the Splash Mtn photo! Awesomeness personified!

 Thanks! :goodvibes

(Also I didn't see the Goofy Eye -- is that like the evil eye---until you mentioned it--I saw Mickey and had to scroll back up to see the evil Goofy Eye).

But it was evil, no?

How exactly could you mistake this:

For this?:

Well, of course you can't.
I was sashaying back to my room
and I saw something pass

behind me out of the corner of my eye.
And for me, something that small,
up here, is typically going to be a cat.

I'm from the Southwest originally and I can tell you that Armadillos aren't even close to fuzzy and cute!

Well, maybe not fuzzy,
but you sure he's not cute?

I did see the sea reference.
I'll give you a C, si?

And I can see someone doing that
with the Coors can.

Anyways, enjoying the trip report as usual.

Good!

I'll probably turn ghost (but not ghost host) and only pop in on occasion because this evil think called work keeps me too busy.

Work. A necessary evil
for must of us.

I need to marry a rich woman.
Think Ruby would mind?

Glad you returned Home for a bit. Thanks for the invite!

You're welcome!

well just read an email from Toyota, there was a recall on the passenger side air bag on my little blue car. They have had her since the end of July, waiting for the air bags to come in to replace it. THey have me in a rental that they are providing but jeesh what a pain in the neck. short version, at least another month. *thud*

Ugh. But look on the bright side.
You have a car, you're not putting
miles on
your car.

in other news, over heard on It's a Small World, Papa aka lance was telling lil Miss Scarlett the countries at the beginning, "look! the north pole, etc, then he said look scarlett, Canada when the Mountie came into view. Lil Missy said, "That's not Canada papa, that's Ponzie" (we always wave and say hi ponzie,at the Mountie, )

:rotfl:
Had to share that one with Ruby.
That made my day!

for my guesses
I guess you sleep in until 7:30 (for some of us that is sleeping in lol)
I think you are off to the studios first
and then to epcot
thinking you see bag check 3 times
asked for directions 3 times
get back to your room at 10:30 pm
I think you walk between the studios and epcot
I think you eat at syfy
and I think you also go to beaches and cream
wild animal is a squirrel (if I stick with that I might get lucky eventually)

Noted.

sure I saw it! the thingie next to the whatjamacall it

Nope. That ain't gonna do it.
You'll have to be a bit more
specific than that.

glad you got to see the parade, we saw it when we were there in 2014. realized how much we missed it. rumor has it we are getting it back while wdw will be getting our paint the night parade for their 45th. if they do send ptn out there you really need to see it. make sure to allow yourself a chunk of time to get a good spot. it is amazing. I recommend seeing it twice if you want to take pics tho. once to enjoy it and once for taking pics. it is increadible

I'll remember that.
And you're right about the pics.
If I photograph it,
I don't really
see it.
