Sorry for my extended absence, but I just got back last week from my own Disney Glamping trip at Ft. Wilderness, and I've been busy with everything that piles up while I was gone.
Okay...
Maybe I'm exaggerating just a touch.
But...
OKW is big and sprawling.
And where our room was...
Was in the farthest building away.
We actually just stayed at OKW for a couple nights before Ft. Wilderness. That wasn't the original plan, but there was a tropical storm brewing in the gulf of mexico and it was projected to hit Louisiana the morning I would also be driving through Louisiana. So last minute change, we decided to leave two days early and hence -- I booked a couple nights at OKW.
You're right -- this place is massive. And our room was pretty far out as well -- but since we had a car, I wasn't too worried about the distance from the main area. But oh man -- I wouldn't want to make that walk.
We popped over to Olivia's which was
pretty much empty at that time of day.
I got the buttermilk fried chicken one night and IT. WAS. AWESOME.
So good in fact, that we tried to go to brunch the next morning -- I was all about getting it again -- but the wait was over an hour, so we ended up passing.
Yes it was good -- but I wasn't going to let it get in the way of pool time at Animal Kingdom Lodge (kidani).
Ummm... sir?
Just where exactly are you
putting your hand????
looks like she was quite....how can I say this delicately?
Accommodating.
And as I drove away, in my rear-view
mirror... I caught a glimpse of the B2
as it flew manoeuvres in front of
the (presumably) spell-bound audience.
Still haven't forgiven her for that one.
Damn kids! Always getting in the way!
While Elle got herself up and ready
(around 6:30am), I had a nice breakfast
of bacon and OJ.
We arrived at the bus stop at 7:05am.
Your daughter is unlike any other woman I've met. Up and out the door in 30 minutes? I'm lucky if we can leave 45 minutes after I say we need to leave right now.
"I'll let it go this time."
I was both surprised and happy
to hear that!
Completely shocked the guard let you bring in a glass container. Nice for you -- but does seem odd that they'd bend the rules at all.
Immediately after, one of them
asked. "Want a ride?"
I'd never taken a Main St. conveyance!
Sure!!
those are fun to ride -- but since we're usually with a stroller -- I've never done them with my kids at WDW (we have done them at DL). The only other times I have ridden them are when doing the All Ride Challenge. I think most people have no idea that they're available.
And you know what?
It was fun!
They kept having to beep the horn
at people who were wandering
in the street, which was pretty funny.
I'm a little shocked people aren't constantly run over actually.
Elle and I got in line for 7DMT around 8:25am
and were on about 20-25 minutes later.
I'm shocked the wait time was that short...especially since you went to space mountain initially.
Geez, Elle! Don't put your hand
in front of my face! Sheesh!
I told her to please be more careful,
and that we'd have only one more
chance of getting a good photo
before the ride ended.
Okay... photo coming up in 3...2...1...
that is too funny!!!
I saw the sign...
I took the off ramp...
And there was nothing.
Just a sign saying there
was a town seven miles north.
I'd have definitely just gotten back on and hit up the next one. But I'm more of a destination person as opposed to a journey person. One reason my wife and I don't make for good road trip partners. She wants to stop and explore. I want to get there. It's hard wired into my brain.
At this point, it was pretty
much a foregone conclusion
that I'd be going to the Danish Museum.
When I drove into town, the first
thing I noticed (because it's almost
impossible not to) was this:
They totally tricked you!
Hurried, because I didn't want
my rapidly melting shoes to
sink into the bubbling lava-like
concrete.
It was a tad.... scorching out.
(36C/97F)
Hopefully it was a dry heat???
The place was so full of marble
and glass and statuary that it
would be very easy to lose track
of time.
Kind of amazing how almost all state capitals (at least all the ones I've been to) -- are showcases of extreme governmental waste. Don't get me wrong -- they're absolutely amazing -- but holy cow. People back in the day really knew how to blow through a budget! I can't imagine what these buildings would cost now to build.
One other thing that I finally
was able to check off my to-do list
(It wasn't on my bucket list, but...)
I finally got to try Chick-fil-A.
I won't say it's the best chicken
I've had (far from it), but I will
say that I enjoyed it quite a bit.
So much so that I had it again,
on the drive home.
For fast food it is one of the best...and the service for fast food is probably the best of any large chain.
Okay... it's too danged hot.
It was still five hours to race time.
I made the 40-minute drive
back to the hotel where I
showered and changed.
In that order.
usually helpful to do it in that order. Good call.
A couple of comments.
1. The sky was a lot more ominous looking
then the photo really shows.
The sky wasn't just dark... it was dark green.
dark green can usually mean a good chance of some tornadoes.
2. Those jets you see are all owned by
race car owners.
N500PR is Penske Racing while the other
two are owned by Andretti family members.
(All of the well-known Andretti drivers have
the same initials. Mario, Michael and Marco,
hence the tail numbers ending "MA".)
Private jets is the one thing I'd love to be able to do. It would make traveling sooooooo much better.
The race turned out to be a good one.
My guy finished second after having
gone down a lap midway through the race,
so I was satisfied with the result.
If you aint first, you lost!
