If you follow cdc guidelines, this morning i saw a report about changes to recommendations for cruising. Saying they are high risk, not recommending cruising even if vaccinated for pregnant women, older people, those with health issues.

Makes sense with Delta going around. It is high risk. These are just recommendations, though, so it doesn't sound like it's going to affect any rules about cruising. People will have to decide for themselves what risks to take or not take.

It can still change for a less exclusive groups. With the 3rd shot data can swing for the better as soon as it’s out.

Basically don’t cruise if you can breathe - the CDC is bordering on the insane right now. I am very pro vaccine but at some point there has to be some risk in living. Safety first attitudes are getting ridiculous.
Agree 100%.. My other issue is are other passengers going to look at my wife and myself and think those people are old and shouldn't be cruising because the CDC said so.

Issue is CDC is creating guidance for the whole US not for a specific location. Where I am at for instance there is no issues really right now with like 2 daily cases out of 100,000 people. Florida is at like 111 daily cases per 100,000 people.

The CDC can only make recommendations. Just like your doctor. What you do with the information is up to you.

Personally, the risk of me getting COVID could mean death (yes, I'm vaccinated). My choice is to hold back on cruising for the time being, even though it's one of my favorite things to do. It's just not worth the risk - to me.

Not exactly related to the CDC but because travel advisories in Canada doesn’t recommend travel to the USA (or anywhere) and doesn’t recommend cruises, we cannot get any travel insurance coverage for COVID —which means that if we ever test positive before or during the trip*, we are screwed— … So, I have to cancel two cruises we had planned for this fall.

Waiting for the end of October to see if there will be any changes before we postpone our January cruise as well.

*(Currently, COVID testing is mandatory before we get out of the country, before we board a cruise ship and before coming back to Canada).

CDC issues broad, sweeping statements. Check with your doctor. if they say you are good to go, and you are comfortable with it, go for it. Life is too short. Seriously, something else may come along...

I can only speak for around here, but doctors will echo CDC or AAP (or whatever is most applicable) guidance, even in the pre-COVID world.

That depends on the doctor. Doctors in private practice are more likely to share their personal opinions than those working for large group clinics or hospitals, and doctors' opinions on Covid run the gamut. I've recently been to specialists who aren't currently wearing masks in their private clinic or requiring it of their employees, even in the midst of a huge Delta surge in my area. I see another specialist who has never required masks & thinks Covid is way overblown. Another is so careful that he is still only doing virtual appointments. Their opinions vary almost as much as those of the general population.

That said, I agree with the CDC's recommendations for travel.

Yup my rheumatologist is direct with me and tells me how it is with lupus masks still required

I agree that it depends on the doctor. My dad had a solid organ transplant in 1984. That being said at this point he is much healthier than most transplant patients due to the time passed, however still on a low dose of immunosuppressants. He has been fully vaccinated plus just got his 3rd dose. His doctor told him to just be choosy with what cruise line he goes with, wash his hands and wear his mask and he would be fine to go. She said we can’t live life in a bubble. But doctors are all over the spectrum on this and I’m sure it depends on your individual health situation as well.

There are many opinions on both sides of this announcement, I respect everyone's opinion. From what we have seen for over a year now, is that no one really knows what works and what doesn't. We got fully vaccinated because we trust what OUR doctor tells us and firmly believe he isn't getting his information from CNN, the White House, the CDC or the kid in the basement with a computer connected to the internet. What I believe is that the CDC is simply covering it's own butt. If they say nothing and something happens, then it's their fault. By basically telling everyone who isn't 18yrs old and in perfect health (I know this is an exaggeration), to stay off of cruise ships and stay out of Florida, their conscience is clear. We are going to live our lives.

Exactly.

What do you expect CDC to do? Do you find your doctor being ridiculous when he/she tells you smoking is bad for you? While you may be more willing to risk your life/health than others, I am sure some people want to make an informed decision about their own risk tolerance. I don't see how any "safety first attitude" can be construed as ridiculous.
