Centerpieces - each table with a different fairy tale

:sad1: DF is not happy with all of my centerpiece plans. He does NOT want to have a Disney themed wedding so we compromised on fairy tale. But he is displeased that some of the stories I chose are not fairy tales and are more associated with Disney movies. As he put it, if you made a list of all of the tables he would want people to say it is a list of fairy tales first, not a list of Disney movies.

I suppose I have to sacrifice a few to make him happy. I need to have ten, and the ten I were planning on were Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Rapunzel, Alice in Wonderland, The Frog Prince, The Sword in the Stone, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. The ones up for cutting would be Alice, Sword in the Stone, and Aladdin, but I'd rather not get rid of Alice since I already got a few things. So I suppose I would get rid of Sword in the Stone and Aladdin, but I'm not sure what to replace them with. DF wants Puss in Boots, I'm not happy with that one. I would like fairy tales with a more romantic or majestic theme. The only other one I came up with was the Princess and the Pea, but I would be at a loss for how to make a centerpiece for that. I am kind of upset and frustrated so any good suggestions would be really helpful. :worried:

If you notice...Alice in Wonderland is on the list of fairytales that Chilly posted. :goodvibes

Also, I think you mentioned Peter Pan originally...you could add that back to your list.

I love the Snow White apple you bought by the way! Absolutely gorgeous!

For The Princess and the Pea you could have a little dolls bed with a few layers of pretty fabric on it and a pea pod lying beside it? Or more simply a pea pod and a little crown.

What about the Owl and the Pussycat? It's romantic and very lovely to. : )

Rapunzel is such a new Disney film that it will probably be more associated with the original story. You could possibly place a nice hair brush (like the silver ones you get in sets) next to a little model tower?

There is also the option of Robin Hood. Perhaps a crown, an old fashioned change purse and an arrow? You can get some love silver/gold arrows.

I hope this helps a little, happy shopping!

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I was a little stressed last night... DF always seems to have strong opinions on all of the little things I think he won't care about, but when it comes to the major stuff like the reception hall, ceremony location, and DJ, he doesn't really care! :confused3

But I love your ideas, especially for Rapunzel. I've been looking for some sort of model tower for Rapunzel, but the hair brush idea to go with it is excellent!

I also like the Princess and the Pea idea, I'm thinking I will get a bed for a dollhouse and experiment with adding a few extra mattresses. And lots of wedding places have those cute little peas in a pod salt and pepper shakers as favors, maybe one of those as well. If I do Princess and the Pea I'm up to 9. The last one I still have a few options:

* Little Red Riding Hood (Picnic basket, small red cape)
* Peter Pan (though DF is not crazy about this story)
* King Arthur (I think if I don't call the table "The Sword in the Stone" he might be okay with it, maybe call it something else, like "The Legend of King Arthur")
* Aladdin (same as above, but call it "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" so it's not an obvious Disney connection)
* Puss in Boots (if I really want to please DF I will give him that and just assign all of his friends to sit at that table :rolleyes1 )

Glad I could help a little. :)

I think the original Sword and the Stone was called The Once and Future King, if that helps at all. On a similar line Lady and the Tramp was called Happy Dan the Whistling Dog, though it's not really a fairy tale.

Sleeping Beauty you could simply call Briar Rose and you could change the name of the Princess and the Frog to The Frog Prince.

Have you also thought about Thumbelina or The Snow Queen?

Thanks for all of the help and ideas, I'm feeling better today. Haha, nothing like my first bride freak-out moment, even if it was a minor one!

DF and I decided that we will go with the 8 I mentioned, plus Aladdin and the Princess and the Pea. He really likes the Aladdin story and I showed him some pictures of some cool looking lamps, so he wanted to keep it. Phew. I'm glad we worked it out - he would do anything to make me happy and he even said today that I could do whatever I wanted, but I want to make sure he has a say as well if he really cares about it. So I think we're at a good point.

I also started experimenting with signs for the table names. I wanted them to look like bookmarks, and here is what I came up with so far:

I am thinking of also getting some scrapbooking stickers of castles, etc., to fill some of the empty space, at least for this one. Some of the longer names will be a challenge just to fit in one space, I may have to make a larger "bookmark."

I saw these and thought of you...had you thought of giving bookmarks and/or giving books for wedding favors? You could give fairytale story books or journals or photo albums.

They don't have to be fairytale bookmarks...they could just be ones with your wedding date and maybe a monogram with your names.

I just liked these:

Here is a great DIY book cover and bookmark:

and the free template for the bookmark!

For the table bookmarks/names...look for some fancy cords like on these:

Love the bookmark idea for the table names- and Dolly has a good idea of even using bookmarks as a favor! :D

I can't wait to see how everything turns out!

I feel you on the DF, he had more opinions about the cake topper... then anything else! He always uses the cheating line of " I want whatever makes you happy..." :rotfl2:

WHICH is sweet, but I want him to make decisions too!!

Had you considered doing a fairytale type font? You could do a really fancy first letter like they do with the starting paragraph in most fairytales, or use a script type font for the whole word.

Dolly, I love all of the ideas that you always have! I really like the fonts, I think I will give those a try. On this experiment I actually used scrapbooking stickers because the paper I got is really shiny and I don't think it would print well (you can't tell from the picture). But I think I may try a different paper and print them instead - the pack of stickers that I got only had two "e's" in it so I would need to buy a million packs anyway!

And I wanted something more "tassel"-y for the ribbon, but I was in Michael's the other day and I didn't see anything like that. I probably spent two hours going up and down every aisle just checking out everything they had. :rotfl: Any idea where I could get something like that? I guess i could always find some really cheap bookmarks (we have a place called best bargain books) and use the tassels off of there.

Also I was experimenting with the fonts from that website. I like the fancy ones but only for the first letter - I am trying to figure out what font to use for the rest of the letters. I did some experimenting, let me know what you think and which one works best:

I like the last one. I think the first one looks more Arabic (like Aladdin), which got me thinking, you could use different fonts for each story, if you can find a font that "matches" the story. :goodvibes

I couldn't resist playing around with the bookmark idea. Try playing around with not only the fonts but also the borders, and definitely add a tassel. Also, consider adding your married name :goodvibes, wedding date and even a fun quote like "true love stories never have endings."

I found bookmark tassels online. Here are two, one that is 13 cents and the other 16 cents per tassel. So if you wanted to make bookmarks as favors...that would be a pretty inexpensive favor!

http://trimsplus.com/page/tp/CTGY/bookmarktassels

This is just one site...I'm sure there are others with differing prices! There are price breaks if you purchase 100+ but you do not have to purchase that many. Worse case at 13 cents...if you did buy 100 it would still just be $13, and then you could use them to make bookmarks for favors. (Shipping is a flat rate of $8.95 no matter the number ordered.)

Also, use a white card stock for printing the wording, but maybe you could use a pearlescent cardstock for the back/border of the bookmark.
