CHASE VISA TERMS Changed....Can someone clarify??

Thank you for posting their full reply here for all to see. It saves us all from having to write with the same question. :thumbsup2

For us this would definitely apply to times that we have rented DVC points and paid the owner using a cc linked to our PayPal account. I won't be doing that again.
yes - I would agree that from their description that it would include renting DVC points where you're paying them "cash"...

and you're welcoming! Just helping out the "Disney family"!

Anyone know what would happened if I paid for groceries using my Chase Visa and opted for cash back? I don't usually use that card for groceries and rarely get cash back when checking out but it would be good to know for the future.

Getting cash back is a cash advance, and always has been, so you would be charged the higher APR amount for that portion.

Can you use a chase card to pay the IRS through one of their services that charge a 1.99% fee? I’m trying to meet an MSR and need to know if this is an option or not.

I just used PayPal to pay our photographer for my daughter's senior pictures and put it on my Chase Visa. It would have stunk to get hit with a cash advance fee because I *WAS* paying for "goods and services" even though it was a "person-to-person" payment...he just doesn't have a way to accept a credit card. At least now I know that, in the future, I will have to write him a check instead of paying him through PayPal.

You can still pay him through paypal - just select your bank instead of the credit card

PayPal offers the option to create an invoice to bill someone for goods and services. Perhaps it’s an option for the photographer to invoice you for the pictures and then you could still use PayPal and your credit card to pay. Would definitely want to test it out with a small amount to make sure you don’t get hit with the fee.

Would this apply say, when paying a utility bill? (My water provider does not take payments directly with cc, but you can use their billing company, which does not charge a fee. I just like the convenience of charging everything, always having a record,etc...)

OP -- I got this agreement for my Chase Southwest Visa card.

I like my Chase credit card for the Southwest frequent flyer miles (love the flexibility those give me), and I always pay the card off every month. I read those terms though and said OMG never ever ever ever be late with a card payment or have a balance or do a cash advance (as I've never done any of these things before, I didn't cancel the card). I'm not familiar with payday loans, but have heard horror stories and the Chase interest rate sounds like a payday loan. This would be a HORRIBLE card for anyone that doesn't pay balances off month and ever carries any kind of balance. What a ripoff. In this day and age with interest rates so low, it sounded like highway robbery.

Thank you for pointing out the point in red. I need to get clarification on that to see if I need to change any autopayments.

I just called Chase customer service and Bank of America customer service. Starting April 1 all Apple Pay transactions are going to be treated as cash advances by Chase, as has been alluded to by other posters. Bank of America said that Apple Pay merchant transactions don't count as a cash advance. Anyway, the Chase card need to come off of Apple pay and my backup credit card Bank of America is going to go on.

To answer some other posters questions, using your Chase card to do things like pay a Utility bill regularly is treated like a merchant transaction (no cash advance fee).

This is what’s on chase’s website with regards to digital wallets. With Apple Pay you are directly paying the merchant.

I used my SW card yesterday to donate to a birthday fundraiser on FB. Would that count as a cash advance? 🤦🏼‍♀️ These new terms confuse me

If I cancel my Southwest Visa do I lose my RR points?

No, you won't lose them as they have already been credited to your Southwest account. However, remember that Southwest accounts need to have activity every year or they get closed and you CAN lose all your points. If you won't be flying for a year, you would have to either purchase points or transfer some in or out. You have to maintain some type of "points activity" to keep the account open.

I keep the SW visa just to keep my account active. I have the Premiere version so the annual fee just basically works as a points purchase for me. I haven't flown SW since 2018 and have no idea when I will again, but I have a lot of points I don't want to lose. I use the card for a purchase like once a year so they don't close it on me.

They use to close the account after 24 months of inactivity but in Oct 2019 that is no longer the case. Points will not expire and accounts will not be closed for inactivity.

I think what they mean by person to person is when someone asks you to pay them via friends & family. People want you to do that when they want to avoid paying PayPal fees and move the costs to the buyer.
