Child with medical issues

Thinking about going on first cruise June/July 2003. Have 6 year old son who takes medication. Do they give medication in the clubs? Do they ever take kids off boat without parents? Do they give parents pagers? Do the summer cruises book fast? Sorry for all the questions and concerns. Thanks in advance for any responses from anyone or someone with a child with a medical condition requiring medication.

Children are not given medication while in the clubs. If your child needs medication, you'll need to bring it to him and administer it yourself whenever he needs it. The counselors are not allowed to do that.

The kids are not taken off the boat without the parents. There is a kids club on Castaway Cay, but you will need to take your child off the ship and sign him in once on the island. They don't move the kids from the ship to the island.

When you sign your child up for the kids club on the first day, you will be given a pager. Whenever your child is ready to leave the club, (or if they need you for any other reason) they will page you.

When you sign in your child you will be asked to fill in a form with various information. ( who can pick up child, can they administer first aid etc.) They do give you a beeper even if just to inform you that your child is bored or is checking out. The over 10 child can do so if you have a designated place of meeting (ie the pool, stateroom) There are no off ship excursions without parents for the under 12 group. The teens (over 13) go off with their counsellors on castaway cay day if they choose to. I did not take any special notice about kids that need medication and how they accomodate you. However, let me say that they are quite professional about the safety of the kids in their care. Maybe someone else is in a better position to help you with this meds question. Our travel agent asked Disney Cruise quite a few questions on my behalf and got back to us before our trip was booked. You could try that.
