Circumpolar Race Around the World (CRAW)

Week 48 Update
Last week, we racked up 376 miles. We also had a good number of milestones; however, first I wanted to add to the milestones from last week as I totally missed two important ones (both related to @Baloo in MI):
  • @Baloo in MI completed the Yeti Ultra 24-Hour Virtual Challenge (Sat 7/24)
  • @Baloo in MI set a new weekly mileage PR for CRAW (95.9 miles)
For the milestones this week:
  • Crossed the halfway point in Thailand (Mon 7/26)
  • @Dopey 2020 crossed the 2,500 mile mark for CRAW (Wed 7/28)
  • @opusone crossed the 2,000 mile mark for CRAW (Sun 8/1)
  • @vkeating set a new weekly mileage PR for CRAW (38.0 miles)
  • @jmasgat set a new weekly mileage PR for CRAW (46.0 miles)
As of end of Sunday, we were 726 miles into Thailand (only about 14 miles to go) and 1,144 miles into Region 7, and the prediction models are showing that we should finish Region 7 on about 8/19. We had a CRAW total of 17,945 miles completed, and for the entire CRAW, the prediction model is still showing a finish date in mid-March (about 1 year 6.5 months for the total journey) based on our average daily team mileage.

Happy August everyone!

We had a CRAW total of 18,310 miles completed, and for the entire CRAW, the prediction model is still showing a finish date in mid-March (about 1 year 6.5 months for the total journey) based on our average daily team mileage.

I took it easy last week--I think my shoes were dead, and I started feeling something in my heel area. They have been retired, and things seem to be returning to normal. Just need to be diligent about stretching (and weights, and everything other than running, but you know!)

DopeyBadger made me a shiny new marathon training plan for MW22, and since I have 4 weddings(!) this fall and several weeks of vacation away from home with little chance to train, I am actually going to start my training on Aug 23. So at least the mileage should be steady, but not high volume like the rest of you.

After 6 weeks of PT, I am ready for a little more running and a little less stretching, weights, etc, ;). I was allowed to run 9 miles last week and 18 this week. Good luck with your training.

Unfortunately, I've been sick this past week. I'm hoping to get past my sickness and back on my feet by next week. It's always something!

Hope you are feeling better and ready to get back out in the Houston heat. I miss the rain we had earlier in the summer that kept the temps reasonable.

One Year Down!
As of the end of today, we will have completed a full year as a team on our CRAW adventure. We have logged over 19,500 miles in that time, so have maintained an average of 53.4 miles per day. I know we have all had different participation levels at various times as well as a few changes in team membership, but even assuming full capacity of 10 team members for the entire time, that is an average of over 5 miles per day per person FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR. Pretty impressive! Congrats all!!

Week 68 Update (1st weekly update in a looooong time)
Last week, we completed 412 miles, and ended the week about a quarter of the way through Region 11 (the Great White North). This was our 4th straight week above 400 miles, so there must be some event coming up that we are all training for. For milestones, I will list a few that occurred over the last few months since it's been a while:
As of end of Sunday, we were 715 miles into Alaska and Region 11, and the prediction models are showing that we should finish Region 11 sometime between 1/24 and 1/26. We had a CRAW total of 26,181 miles completed (86.7%), and for the entire CRAW, the prediction model is showing a finish date in early-March (about 1 year 6 months for the total journey) based on our average daily team mileage.

Hope to see everyone is a few weeks!

Weeks 69-72 Update
So, we've had some interesting weeks lately... especially the week ending Sunday 1/9. It's amazing what happens when over half our team participates in the Dopey Challenge, not to mention all the walking miles in the parks. We completely shattered our previous weekly mileage PR by a whopping 165 miles. Our new record is is now 636.3 team miles in a week! I somewhat doubt we will be setting any new weekly team mileage records before the end of CRAW.

Not surprisingly, this one concentrated week of mileage also led to the two lowest weekly mileage weeks before and after WDW Marathon Weekend (247.6 and 252.1 miles).

For milestones, we had quite a few:
  • @camaker crossed the 4,000 mile-mark for CRAW (Sun 1/9 - during the marathon)
  • @Baloo in MI set a new weekly mileage PR (112.4 mi)
  • @camaker set a new weekly mileage PR (105.0 mi)
  • @opusone set a new weekly mileage PR (98.8 mi)
  • @Dopey 2020 set a new weekly mileage PR (84.1 mi)
  • @vkeating set a new weekly mileage PR (57.1 mi)
  • We crossed the 90% mark in CRAW (Sun 1/9)
  • We left British Columbia and crossed into Alberta (Wed 1/12)
As of end of Sunday, we had 514 miles remaining in Alberta and Region 11, and the prediction models are showing that we should finish Region 11 sometime on 1/27 or 1/28. We had a CRAW total of 27,637 miles completed (91.5%), and for the entire CRAW, the prediction model is showing a finish date in early-March (about 1 year 6 months for the total journey) based on our average daily team mileage.

Incredible job, everyone!

OK, I was overdue to find something bizarre in Google Street View along our route. This was in Lewstown, Montana:
644715
Nothing like ping pong AND a Christian burlesque show. Also, in the street view, if you looked toward the right along the front of the building, there was a Star of David. I can only assume there is a competing Jewish burlesque show at the other end of the building?

Oddly, when I found the same location on "regular" Google maps, leaving CRAW's site, and went to streetview, this is how it looked: https://www.google.com/maps/@47.071...213.88922&pitch=0&thumbfov=100!7i13312!8i6656 I am not sure if that link will translate. But this view is from 2013 while the one from CRAW is marked as 2020.

Very strange!
