give us one or the other or both if you do both

Disney - at about 12 I would leave park, go back to hotel pool and relax, come back at aboy 5, the most crowded part of the day is over, you wil be feeling all refreshed and the people that stayed all day are turning into werewolf's

Vegas - people pre buy tickets for shows , if you go to a tix4tonight (all over the strip) same day your there, you get ticket so much cheaper

I'm really gonna have to talk my wife into doing a Vegas trip one of these days. I've wanted to go for quite some time but we've never taken the plunge.

I guess my mistake would be failing to go.

you better scout it out for the both of you :ssst:, Vegas is almost an acquired taste . My mom loved to go wiht my dad, and when he died I would take my mom there to keep her spirits up, and I ended up just like mom and love the place

Vegas - depends on the show you want. Donny and Marie tix are not always at tix4tonight (if ever), and I already got our August tix via Travelzoo for 50% off. We want to do another show and will probably wait til we get there unless I find a really good deal beforehand.

But how are the seats when you buy day of? Are we talking nose bleeds?

they offer different seat prices, but to be honest in Vgeas your best off to get the cheapest seat, and hand the usher a 20 and say would you please get me as close to stage as you can, you will be in first or 2nd row, thats how vegas rolls

I think the biggest mistakes people make about vegas is thinking the strip is smaller and that things are closer than thery are.

amen sister

WDW - Not taking advantage of Stormalong Bay from 6pm-9pm. Seriously it’s a ghost town. Planning FP from last day to first day.

DL - Not RD in Adventureland. Not feeling the Golden Apple at the Snow White ride for the crack of lightning/laugh/animated window above.

Vegas - Not tipping enough. Letting the taxi from the airport take you to the 215 around to the strip vs. just going the back way from the airport down Paradise. Not renting a car. Not staying off strip. There’s so much to do besides the strip. Tip: Off season is July/August.

Vegas- I think its a mistake to only stay on the strip

Disney- Get your feet together! Unless you're planning on riding a scooter, you should train your feet so you're not dying. I've known people who have had a miserable time because they were simply not used to walking. I think its so important to get used to those steps long before you enter a park.

Disney--managing expectations. That includes the uber planners. Somtimes on the Boards at least you see the people who pour over the plans, they know about FP+, they know about ADRs but if they can't get that FP they want for the time they want for the day they want or they can't get the ADR they want for the time they want for the day they want it becomes very upsetting/disappointing. Along with that is understanding you could have the best plan in the world but flexibilty can be key.

Vegas--I'd agree with a PP. I think people see the strip and think it's very close together. While they are not too far from each other on the maps and even in person it can be a great distance followed by pedestrian bridges, cross walks, etc to get where you need to go. In 2017 we rode the monorail and it really worked out for us. Next month while we aren't staying on the side of the strip with the monorail we might still get a monorail pass. The Deuce is also available but we didn't find it as convenient as the monorail to us.

For vegas, I would add that is all about the hotel you stay at. Hotels are cheap out there, I think you need to think about the value.

I've stayed at a dozen hotels (rio, cesars, ballys, bellagio, wynn, encore, etc...) The best, by far is encore. The rooms are beautiful, the pool is amazing, the casino is quiet and relaxed. My favorite place in the world (very close tie with Main street at WDW) is the adult pool at Encore.

We're paying $230 a night in June. I think the lowest on the strip was around $100. I can't stress enough how valuable the encore is at that price. Let the crowds go somewhere else. You can walk around and explore everywhere, but call the encore home.

I've never been to Vegas, but we've been to Disney dozens of times. I think one of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking they HAVE to go to rope drop. We've been to Disney 30-ish times (I've actually lost count) and I bet we average 5 park days per trip, so maybe 150 in-park days. I bet we've been to rope drop 3 times. Even when the girls (DD and my nieces) were very young, they would happily go all night until the parks closed, but DON"T try to get us up in the morning! We would all be MISERABLE is we were up at 6am for a theme park day and had to leave before the fireworks so we could get enough sleep. No way are we rope droppers... but so many people think you HAVE to or you'll miss out.

I think for Las Vegas the biggest mistake is going too hard, too fast on the arrival day/night.

People show up in Las Vegas and start partying like there is no tomorrow. They drink way more then normal, stay up till the break of dawn and then sleep so long, are hung over and/or still drunk when they do wake up, and as a result totally miss out on the daytime Las Vegas activities.

Now that recreational marijuana is legal I also think people don't realize just how much higher the THC concentrations are in today's marijuana compared to what they grew up with in the 70's, 80's, or 90's. That trip down memory lane does not quite go as planned when they end up much higher then intended.

Oh but that can be quite a vacation though. There are people who really don't care about daytime activities other than going to the pool then it's out for the night having fun. You can do a mix of that and daytime activities or you can opt to not really party hard.

I def. was stumbling back to my room on my 21st birthday with my mom in tow (she was drunker than I was lol) at like 5:30am one of the nights, going to clubs and shows too though we did walk on the Strip during the day it was just later in the day but when I was 29 it was a completely different trip no clubs a couple of shows and getting back to the room around midnight or so except for a night or two. This upcoming trip at age 31 will be more mellow too like the last trip as the days of partying have long been over for my husband and I. But Vegas is a place that feeds off of that vibe plus it helped out at Hash Hash A Go Go getting there for breakfast when people have woken up yet ;)

But I do think there's a sort of pressure to do Vegas like it's one big nightclub so I would agree with you there in that if one wants to there's a lot more to do than one thinks.

:thumbsup2 Absolutely agree! I was actually scolded on the DLR Planning Board once for admitting I wasn't going to rope-drop because we were travelling with 2 teenaged boys. I still chuckle remembering how totally disgusted that poster was that we were "wasting" the trip. I'd count caring so much what strangers do on vacation as a mistake too.

That sounds like a play-by-play of the last time co-workers and I attend a convention in Vegas. I could have made quite a tidy sum if blackmail was my jam.:rotfl:
