Concierge vs. non. Is it worth it?

ah southerngirl528- you had an amazing time! happy to hear it! Concierge is the best. Not sure when or if I will get to do it again either, but we had absolutely the best time when we did.

You are so kind, Ladyofthetramp!!! Thanks so much! But yes, it was absolutely amazing every moment. Tawanda, Amanda and Michelle were rock star concierge hosts and just really nice folks. And Norris and Ricardo were great in the lounge too. As amazing as the concierge amenities and perks were (and they were! LOL), it was our 1 bedroom suite that blew us completely away. Unbelievable. And we ended up really liking that it was on deck 11. To go to the spa, we just put on our robe from our room and shushed across the hall right into the spa! It was great! At the spa desk they said they knew guests were staying on deck 11 when they showed up in their DCL robes ready to go! ::yes::

Full disclosure - I have not done concierge on DCL, but I have on other lines - all due to cost.

We did a Med cruise last summer. While I love DCL, it would have cost $15,000, non-concierge, for my family of 6 (two verandah rooms) on DCL, and over $30,000 for concierge for a very comparable itinerary. We spent $9,000 for 2 verandah rooms in the Yacht Club concierge section on MSC instead.

I loved the Yacht Club, especially for the lounge to escape the crowds, and the perk of being escorted on and off the ship from embarkation, all the ports, to debarkation. Much of what DCL concierge advertises, we got on MSC as far as perks go. But it was not worth $30,000 (that's over a year's worth of college for one of my kids!!) And it wasn't worth even $15,000 to sail DCL.

So it really is about the money. If I could get a reasonably priced DCL concierge cruise, I'd go in a heart beat. I love DCL, and concierge was really relaxing. But I'm not willing to sacrifice college tuition to do it. With 2 in college now, and we'll have 3 in college come 2020, it's all about getting the most for my traveling dollars. We saved enough to spend a week in France before the cruise.

As with anything you are considering purchasing, only you can assess the overall value or worth. The big question is, do you value the additional services offered? The value of each dollar to you will be different than the value of each dollar to someone else and THAT all depends on how much money you have in your discretionary budget.

We have routinely priced Concierge to see if it was worth it to us. We have friends that have sailed and love it, so we are attracted to it. Every time though we can't seem to justify the additional cost as compared to the additional services offered. I guess we just don't see the value in those things. The cabana on Castaway is just too expensive anyway. Castaway is plenty nice enough without one at those prices. We are pretty independent and don't even know what we would do with the butler service. The thing that appeals to us most is the larger balcony and having a private meal on the balcony.

While we have never sailed Concierge, we just can't seem to justify it.

We're pretty low maintenance and really don't enjoy people on top of us. The only thing we'd love is a private swimming pool. There really isn't anything else included that would be of value for us.
