Cool "extra" thing for kids to do?

In April we went to Disney with our 4,5,6 year old children and we sent them on a a pirate cruise for a special treat - they loved it and it was a highlight of the week. We are going in December for Christmas and Santa wants to give them a certificate for a special treat. I have never been in December but I assume a priate cruise would be to cold.

What other cool thing could santa give them (he already does disney dollars in their stockings)?

Are You doing Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party? I would recommend that. Hot cocoa, cookies, special parade and fireworks and little to no lines at rides. Characters in their holiday garb. So much fun.

We are actually arriving at Disney the morning of the last party so we were planning on getting tickets. It sounds like a great time.

Thanks for the advice - any other fun ideas?

Well- since they are so young, you could probably tell them that anything was "special" and since everyhitng at disney is awesome- they wouldn't know the difference between what's regular/special.
Like- even just a meal at a super cool place- and then maybe order some sort of special cake/dessert there.
And I wouldn't be so sure about not doing a pirate cruise. I'd call and make a reservationa dn then check the weather closer to that week and hten decide if it would be worth it.

Also, there's the Pirate wishes cruise that is per person and you would do w/ them. A huge yacht basically w/ a pirate escort- captain hook is there when u get on and then peter pan is there when u get off adn you can watch wishes from the boat w/ the music piped in. i REALLY wanna do this but my youngest is NOT afan of fireworks yet :)

The Osborne Lights at DHS are amazing.
They sell hot cocoa in mugs that are battery powered and have flashing lights.
I'm so far past 4,5 or 6 years old that it's ridiculous and I thought it was super fun to walk around with the mug!
A little tip: if you go late, especially during Fantasmic! or on a night when there is no F! the crowds at the lights will be much lighter. If it's late, during an evening EMH night, all the better.

Be sure to visit the Grand Floridian, to see the huge gingerbread house in the lobby. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8UkosJEhtk

Great tip thanks

One thing we did when our boys were younger that they really liked (and was free) was going to Ft. Wilderness for the Campfire Sing-a-long.

At MK, take them to the Main Street Barbershop for haircuts. Or the Pirate Makeover experience in Adventureland.

The balloon ride at Downtown Disney might be neat followed by a trip to Goofy's Candy Company and allowing them to make their own treats.

So which would you suggest.

We want to go to osborne lights. We are going to have dinner at 50's prime time at 5pm than head over to the lights to see them.

1. Go on a night that has Fantasmic - no extra magic hours
2. Go on a night that has NO Fantasmic and no extra magic hours
3. Go on a night that has extra magic hours only

Thanks :)

Pirate makeover experience in adventureland has great costumes and makeovers for both boys and girls

I would say, no matter what, to try to go as late as possible.
If it was me, I would go on an EMH night, the last hour.
I'm just saying that it's sooo incredibly crowded at times, that you really need a plan.
Have Fun!

There's a balloon ride at DTD? Is there an age requirement? How much does it cost?

Both of my kids adore hot air balloons and have been begging to go in one since they could form a sentence. But they are 4 and 2 (5 and 3 on our WDW trip), so they can't go on a real balloon ride across the countryside for quite a few years. This would be an awesome treat for them!!

I would think #2. Both Fantasmic and emh days/nights are crowd magnets. And as said, go late.

From right here on the DIS, just search Characters In Flight.

Characters in Flight Balloon Ride
Located next to the bridge near Planet Hollywood, this new attraction provides guests with a birds eye view of Downtown Disney and a 360 degree view of up to 10 miles. This 6 minute trip lifts up to 30 guests at a time 400 feet in the air.
The cost is $16 for adults and $10 for children (3-9). Operating hours are Sunday-Thursday 10:30 a.m.- 11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday are 10:30 a.m.- 12 a.m.

I think the prices might have recently gone up a little.

We did the pirate makeover last Halloween and my DS6 loved it.

You guys could also rent a small boat at the Grand Floridian and ride around the lake. My husband and I did that while our son went on a pirate cruise 3 yrs ago and it was a memorable moment. It wasn't too expensive and lasted about 30-45 minutes. If your kids like being on the water, that might be fun.

Oh - I just remembered something we did a few years ago. The Family Magic Tour (I think that's what it's called). It's in the MK and is open to all ages (one of the few tours that is). It's like a scavenger hunt and revolves around a storyline with Peter Pan and Capt. Hook. It was sooooooo much fun for our family. You will be with a group of other families, but we had a blast!!
