Dine-in Theaters at DTD - Last Update

Disney and AMC Theatres have announced the arrival of six "dine-in theatres" coming to Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Opening May 16th, these theatres will allow customers to watch the newest releases while enjoying dinner and drinks from their seats. The six auditoriums with at-your-seat dining at AMC Downtown Disney 24 will have reserved seating, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and "an extensive menu including a wide array of entrees such as an enticing selection of quesadillas, burgers, flatbread pizzas, grilled sandwiches, house specialties, as well as appetizers and desserts." In addition, so as to minimize distractions to other patrons, moviegoers will be able to press a call-button that alerts their server. Depending on the day and time, taking in this new experience will cost between $6 and $13, plus the cost of food, which is expected to be between $6.59 - 8.99 for appetizers and $8.59 - 11.99 for entrees.

For those that don't want to eat while watching a movie, a full-service bar and lounge will also open on May 16th. MacGuffins Bar and Lounge will be located inside the AMC Downtown Disney 24 and will offer the full menu of drinks and food choices available to those in a dine-in theatre.

Beginning Monday, Central Florida moviegoers will have another option when it comes to experiencing films on the big screen. Six of the auditoriums at AMC Downtown Disney 24 will open to the public as “dine-in theatres,” where patrons will be able to order restaurant cuisine and cocktails and have them delivered to their seats.

The setting offers a fun atmosphere not just for adults, but for families as well. Well-placed lighting, sturdy tables and plush seats make the dining concept manageable for kids. Plus, as Denise Preskitt at MouseSteps.com points out, every seat is either an aisle or one seat away from the aisle, which makes bathroom breaks less disruptive for everyone.

In addition to the versatile menu — including burgers, flatbread pizzas, grilled sandwiches, appetizers and desserts — there are kid-friendly selections. Kids’ meals cost $6.99, while adult appetizers start at $6.59 and entrees at $8.59. You can scope out the food here.

Reinforcing the family concept, guests must be at least 18 years old, unless they are with parents.

Ticket prices range from $6 to $13 depending on day of the week and specific movie.

On Friday, however, the new AMC Dine-In Theatres will have complimentary screenings of Tron: Legacy, The Karate Kid, The Hangover, Tangled, The Social Network and Inception in its six auditoriums.

AMC Downtown Disney 24 is celebrating the grand opening of its Dine-In Theatres by giving away a bunch of stuff. If you’re one of the first 100 people in line Monday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m., you will probably watch more movies in the next twelve months than ever before.

Those 100 people (must be 18+) will get 24 movie tickets (two per month for twelve months) and 12 free appetizers (one per month for twelve months). Since admission ranges from $6 to $12 depending on the day and movie, the giveaway is worth a max of $288 (plus whatever they order in appetizers).

You’re probably envisioning masses of people camping out to snag that front spot. But Downtown Disney doesn’t want participants to line up before 10:30 a.m. Check-in for the first 100 begins at 11:30 a.m.

AMC Downtown Disney is at 1500 E. Lake Buena Vista Drive in Lake Buena Vista.

Meanwhile, we got a sneak peek of the new digs! The entrance is spanking new, as is the lobby. That area is now MacGuffin’s Bar & Lounge. Guests can belly up to the bar before and after their movie.

Unlike most theatres that offer typical concessions (popcorn, candy, etc.), this place also lets guests order full meals and alcoholic beverages during the movie. You don’t even have to get up.

Here’s the deal. The theatre is sectioned off so that four seats in a row share a tabletop. That way, servers can remain in the aisles and still reach out to place food in front of you. When you want to order, just press a red button on your tabletop and it alerts the servers.

You might be wondering - if everyone's drinking cocktails and non-traditional movie-theatre cuisine, won't it be kind of loud in there?

Theatre Dining Director Jason Henderson said for one thing, they’re using bamboo plates.

"It reduces the amount of noise so you don't get the clanking of silver on the china plates," Henderson said.

Henderson added that the movie's volume is turned up slightly higher than you're used to. This drowns out those loud eaters.

Also, servers are told not to bug you too much.

"We've told our servers there are certain times in a movie that you don't want to bother a guest," Henderson said

At SSR now, went over to see the AMC 24 at DTD. The entrance closest to the old PI is the entrance to the dine-in, even though you can purchase tickets at both locations. Planning on going to POTC4 on Friday and will post my experience over the weekend.

Did not go to the dine-in theaters. Cost for two people:
Movie: 12.00 PP = 24.00
Drinks: 6.00 PP = 12.00
Appetizers for two: 10.00
Lunch for two: = 15.00
Total: $61.00 for lunch and a movie.
Too much for DW and me too spend, maybe for a night out we will try it.
