La Cava in Epcot

I think this was a passion fruit margarita, I'll admit I cannot clearly remember.

Continuing with Fig Goes Sig (and Food & Wine)
Via Napoli (lunch, 10/31/11 - Happy Halloween!)
Appetizers
VN_MistoFritta.jpg

Fritto Misto (calamari, fried cheese, arancini, fried veggies) - so yummy! Figment really liked the calamari and the arancini. The cheese flavor wasn't as strong, so he liked the arancini better at Via Napoli than at Citricos. The portion on the platter could easily serve more than two.

VN_Proscuitto.jpg

Prosciutto e Melone - very similiar to the one Figment had at Tutto Italia, but it was a smaller portion. Still, Figment loves proscuitto, so this appetizers was rigth up his alley.

Entrees
VN_ProscuittoPasta.jpg

Prosciutto e Melone - Figment liked the combination of proscuitto and melon on the pizza

VN_FruttideMare.jpg

Frutti de Mare - Figment really likes Via Napoli's sea food pasta!

VN_CAndele.jpg

Candele - Reminded Figment of lasgana, but with little candlestick pasta

Desserts
VN_UglyButGood.jpg

Coppa di Brutti Ma Buoni - Fancy ice cream sundae! Figment really liked this sundae, but the Amarena cherries were a little strong for him.

VN_ItalianIceCream.jpg

Gelato Frizzante - Figment wasn't to sure about this dessert. He liked the ice cream, but wasn't too fond of the soda. It was better when the ice cream melted into the soda, but he'd rather have the Coppa di Brutti Ma Buoni.

California Grill (dinner, 10/31/11)
DSC_0728_1.jpg

Mickey confetti - Figment was very excited to find the table had Mickey confetti scattered on top of it! He carefully collected up all of the confetti, put it in a little baggie and brought it home!

Appetizers
CG_CrabStack.jpg

Dungeness Crab Stack - Figment liked all of the crab meat!

CG_CARoll.jpg

California Roll - it was a traditional CA roll; good flavor, but nothing remarkable

CG_KazanRoll.jpg

Spicy Kazan Roll - Figment really liked the sushi, but the fireball sauce was HOT! He had to carefully scrape it off the sushi (luckily it was only in the middle of the plate and not actually inside the roll).

Entrees
CG_Salmon.jpg

Wild Pacific Salmon

CG_FLSnapper.jpg

Florida Snapper - Figment liked the snapper and risotto

CG_FiletofBeef.jpg

Oak-fired Filet of Beef - the server recommended the filet, so Figment decided to try it. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great!

Desserts
CG_Mousse.jpg

Gianduja Mousse with Cocoa Nib Tuile - Chocolate...Yum!

CG_Smores.jpg

S'Mores Valrhona Chocolate Cake - Figment liked the grown-up take on s'mores. The chocolate cake was really good!

CG_BananasandCaramet.jpg

Bananas and Caramel

We're coming near to the end of Fig Goes Sig, but next time...Snacks and then on to Food & Wine!

From Food and Wine, Italy, Baked Ravioli and Shrimp Pasta, both very good.

Werther's Karamel Kuche shop at Epcot.

Figment realized that he skipped a meal. So, before moving to snack...
Grand Floridian Cafe (dinner, 10/23/11) - Figment has only been the GFC once before and the service was very slow. This time the service was really slow and the server wasn't really very friendly. Perhaps he was spoiled by the service at many of the other places, but he was not impressed with the server (she seemed very abrupt and not really happy to be there - she kept pulling other servers aside for little "chats" so Figment wondered if something was up). Anyway, sadly GFC has fallen on the list of "only if there are no other nearby available TS places."
Appetizers
GFC_ShrimpCocktail.jpg

Shrimp Cocktail

GFC_CrabCakes.jpg

Crab Cakes - the cakes were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Entrees
GFC_Hamburger.jpg

Grand Floridian Burger - a hamburger with lobster on top. Figment found it really tough to bite through the lobster pieces, so it was better to eat them separately from the hamburger.

GFC_PorkChop.jpg

Grilled Pork Chop

Desserts
GFC_Sorbet.jpg

Seasonal Sorbet

GFC_DessertSampler.jpg

Dessert Sampler (Tiramisù, Chocolate-Hazelnut Mousse Cake, Key Lime Tart, and Lemon Cheesecak) with a solid chocolate Mickey! Figment liked the dessert sampler, especially the tiramisu, mousse cake and key lime tart. The chocolate Mickey was very cute.

And now, on to snacks...
N_Cupcakes.jpg

Cupcakes at Starring Rolls (DHS) - Chocolate Peanut Butter (left) and Butterfingers (right) - both were really rich and yummy!

S_Muffin.jpg

Mickey Blueberry Muffin at Boardwalk Bakery

S_CaramelCorn.jpg

Caramel Corn from Karamel Kuche (Germany) - Figment loved this! He had a bag at the start of the trip and then brought four bags home with him!

S_WhiteElephantCupcake.jpg

White Elephant Cupcake at Kusafari Bakery (Animal Kingdom) - Figment thought the elephant was very cute. They didn't have them out when he got to the bakery, but he asked and they had them.

And finally, Figment's two favorite snacks...
S_Floats.jpg

Root Beer Float (left) and Pineapple Dole Whip Float (right) from Aloha Isles (Magic Kingdom) - Figment really loves the Dole Whip Float. Even if it meant chattering teeth, it was well worth it! :)

Coming next time...Food & Wine

Continuing (after a long delay)…Fig Goes Sig and Food & Wine
Australia – Shrimp on the Barbie with Pepper Berry Citrus Glaze (left), Grilled Lamb Chop with Potato-Goat Cheese Salad and Shiraz Reduction (right) – Figment liked both of the dishes. The shrimp were cooked nicely (not rubbery). The lamp chop and sauce had good flavor, but the goat cheese was a little strong in the salad.
GW_Australia.jpg

Brazil – Feijoada (right), Seared Mahi Mahi with Steamed Rice, Hearts of Palm and Coconut-Lime Sauce (right) – the fish was nice and moist and the hearts of palm were a little like artichoke hearts. Sadly, Figment did not like the feijoada (he could only taste the beans in the dish and none of the pork).
FW_Brazil.jpg

Argentina – Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree (left), Beef Empanada (right) – Figment liked both of these. The chimichurri sauce was really yummy.
FW_Argentina.jpg

Caribbean – Ropa Vieja (top), Jerk Spiced Chicken Drumstick with Mango Salsa (bottom) – Figment liked the ropa vieja’s mild flavor. The jerk chicken had a slight bite.
FW_CaribbeanRopa.jpg

FW_CaribbeanChix.jpg

Mexico – Grilled Ribeye Taco (left), Crispy Shrimp Taco (right) – Both of these were really spicy! The shrimp had good flavor, as did the ribeye, but both had sauces on them that made them too spicy for Figment to enjoy.
FW_Mexico.jpg

Scandinavia – Taste of Scandinavia (Shrimp Salad, Cured Salmon, and Herring) (left), Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries (right), Rice Pudding with Driscoll’s Only the Finest Berries (middle) – The shrimp salad was pretty good, but Figment wasn’t a fan of the cured salmon and herring. The meatballs reminded him of Ikea (which he likes). The rice pudding wasn’t his cup of tea, but the berries were yummy.
FW_Scandinavia.jpg

China – Black Pepper Shrimp with Sichuan Noodles (left, top), Pork Pot Stickers (right, top), Xinjian Barbeque Chicken Stick (right, bottom), Caramel Ginger Ice Cream (left bottom) – Figment really liked the BBQ chicken and the caramel ginger ice cream!
FW_China1.jpg

FW_China2.jpg

South Korea – Lettuce Wrap with Roast Pork and Kimchi Slaw (left), Boolgogi BBQ with Steamed Rice and Kimchi (right) – the kimchi was hot, so Figment had to carefully eat around it to taste the dishes. The pork was mild, but the mayo sauce was a little odd. Figment liked the BBQ beef.
FW_SouthKorea.jpg

South Africa – Seared Filet of Beef with Smashed Sweet Potatoes and Braai Sauce (left), Bunny Chow (right) – the beef was tender and had an interesting flavor. Figment was really worried about the Bunny chow at first – after all, he didn’t want to eat Thumper. After learning there were no bunnies in it, he tried, but sadly did not really care for it.
FW_SouthAfrica.jpg

Cheese – Fondue – Figment wasn’t very impressed with the white cheese fondue. It was kind of grainy.
FW_Cheese.jpg

Germany – Goulash Soup (right), Nuernberger Sausage in a Pretzel Roll (middle), Apple Strudel Featuring Werther’s Original Karamel and Vanilla Sauce (left) – Figment liked the goulash, but it would have been better if the meat wasn’t so dry. The sausage was mild and in a pretzel roll (yum!). Figment liked the dessert the best. The apples were nice and crispy in the strudel and the caramel and vanilla sauce was really good. (The CM’s even let Figment carry the food back on one of the shiny gold trays!)
FW_Germany.jpg

Poland – Kielbasa and Potato Pierogie with Caramelized Onions and Sour Cream (right), Golabki (left) – Figment didn’t really like either of these dishes. The kielbasa was okay, but the potato pierogie had a weird cheese flavor. The golabki was mushy.
FW_Poland.jpg

Italy – Ravioli di formaggio all’Emiliana (right), Capellini con Gamberi Piccanti (left), Cannoli al Cioccolato (middle) – The ravioli was huge! It had a lot of cheese, but a good flavor. The shrimp in the capellini was a little mushy. The cannoli was Figment’s favorite. It was very light and sweet.
FW_Italy.jpg

Hops & Barley – Lobster Claw Cuddler with Drawn Butter (right), Perfect Maine Lobster Roll (left), Pumpkin Mousse with Ocean Spray Craisins and Orange Sauce (back) – Figment really likes lobster, so he had high hopes for the two lobster dishes. The cuddler turned out to be a claw (pre-cracked) with butter. The flavor was good, but he wondered what happens if you don’t get a “good” claw (sometimes the claws are kind of shriveled up inside). The roll had nice big chunks of lobster meat. Instead of being mixed in a sauce, the sauce was spread on the bread (next time he would ask to skip the sauce). The pumpkin mousse was very strong on the pumpkin flavor.
FW_HopsandBarley.jpg

Okay, that is about half way through the festival…next time, more from Food & Wine…
