Imagineers Will Install More Than 10,000 Additional LED Fixtures to Ensure World Celebration Comes Alive at Night in EPCOT

In a recent interview with Gizmodo, Walt Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley provided some more detail about how World Celebration will essentially become a massive, programmable light display. Riddley shared that when the World Celebration neighborhood is completed next year, there will be an astonishing 12,000 “programmable LCD fixtures”. While that is somewhat vague, Riddley does paint a picture of essentially an entire city block with what amounts to a synchronized Christmas light show.

At night [World Celebration] can be programmed in the way that Spaceship Earth is in terms of lighting, music, and color. We have over 12,000 programmable LCD fixtures once this is complete—and so take “Rainbow Connection,” but entirely immersed.

I wish they’d put a bit more lighting around the world showcase. It can be so dark in spots that I was always afraid to lose my kids and not be able to see them.

Just try to hold back those bloodcurdling screams as you watch him in action in 4 new true-to-life horror movies!!! As you watch today’s dance from the little crack between your fingers, while covering your eyes, try to sing the words to the song “One, Two, Freddy’s Coming For You.” (As if this couldn’t get any more horrifying!)

I know 'everyone' loves the LEDs on Spaceship Earth, but do they hurt your eyes when walking near it? I couldn't look at it in the whole of Future World/ World Celebration/Whatever we call it now. It genuinely hurt my eyes. I'm going to need to wear my sunglasses at night if the entire section of the park is filled with dancing LED lights.

LEDS are just so stinking bright.

I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, so I can
Walk through all of Epcot's LEDs

I’m usually light-sensitive, but I haven’t had problems with the lights on SE. But points for using a Muppets Christmas Carol GIF 😁😁

The cost for each attraction is 2000 yen (about $15.50).

It gives people the option to pay for each ride and choose a time they want to ride it. Good, in a way, so you don’t get random times like Genie+, but it’s a lot more expensive.

If we had this at Magic Kingdom, I could just pay $150 at 7am, get the following ride times, have the perfect day, and not have to check my phone again the rest of the day.

9:00 Tiki Room
9:30 Carousel of Progress
10:00 Tomorrowland Speedway
10:45 It’s a Small World
11:30 Pinocchio Village Haus Lunch reservation
1:00 Prince Charming Carousel
1:30 People Mover
2:30 Aladdin's Carpets
3:30 Astro Orbiter
4:30 it’s a Small World

I think making Genie+ cost more would be a big benefit. IMO right too many people are buying it which is part of the issue with lack of availability.
