I've seen people talk about potential flooding in the parks. What's got me worried is the potential for backstage flooding at MK. Remember, those areas are under the main guest areas.

Disney World Resorts Reopen Quick-Service Locations, End Hurricane Meal Kits

Disney World has updated its list of available food options for guests staying at the hotels during Hurricane Ian, and the update removes the availability of the Hurricane Meal Kits. The update also notes that there are more locations closed today, including the pool bars. This is a master list from Disney, and guests staying at each resort should consult resort signage for the latest information.

National Weather Service: Disney World Received More Than 12″ of Rain From Hurricane Ian

A report from the National Weather Service details just how much rain Walt Disney World received from Hurricane Ian as it passed through the area late yesterday and today. While wind speeds seem to have been relatively low given how strong of a storm Hurricane Ian was, rainfall totals are significant.

The National Weather Service has multiple rainfall reporting stations at Walt Disney World, and one of the stations recorded more than 12″ of rain. Here’s a look at the totals for the Walt Disney World stations as of 10:15am this morning:

  • Magic Kingdom: 12.13″
  • S MGM Studios: 11.46″
  • WNW Magic Kingdom: 9.57″
  • SW MGM Studios: 8.84″
  • SE MGM Studios: 4.64″

Crews will be assessing the damage to the theme parks and hotels today. As of 1pm, Disney World is still scheduled to reopen tomorrow, September 30th according to statements by Disney. Initial reports on social media show sporadic landscape damage at the resorts as well as some flooding.

Penalty-Free Hotel Changes & Cancelations Extended at Disney World Due to Hurricane Ian

Disney World has extended its Hurricane Policy period to cover more dates as uncertainty surrounding the impact of Hurricane Ian continues. Crews are assessing damage from the storm and Disney World will likely issue an updated statement today or tomorrow about reopening plans. Currently, the Walt Disney World theme parks are scheduled to reopen tomorrow, September 30th, but timelines and plans are subject to change. With more than 12″ of rain at Walt Disney World, flooding could be the biggest impact at the theme parks.

Initially, Disney World waived all cancelation fees for check-in dates through Monday, October 3rd. Now, Disney World has extended that timeframe to include check-in dates through Thursday, October 6th.
As a reminder, cancelation fees for other reservations such as dining or special experiences have been waived indefinitely.

Walt Disney World Theme Parks To Reopen Tomorrow in “Phased Reopening” After Hurricane Ian

Disney World has announced that they will reopen their theme parks tomorrow as part of a “phased reopening” following Hurricane Ian. Here’s the announcement:

We are seeing the impacts of Hurricane lan across Florida and are thinking of our neighbors in Central Florida and across the state. We will share more information about our plan to support relief efforts for our Florida neighbors soon.

We thank our first responders and community leaders for their courageous efforts in preparing for and managing the storm’s impact. To our cast members in Florida and in South Carolina, thank
you for selflessly taking care of our guests. We continue to closely monitor weather conditions as we assess the impact of Hurricane lan on our property.

While theme parks and many operating areas remain closed to guests today, we anticipate weather conditions to improve this evening. Walt Disney World Resort will resume theme park and Disney Springs operations in a phased approach starting on Friday, Sept. 30.

I have heard that the utilidors have pipes that leak anyway. I don't know, since I haven't been down there. This is from former CMs. It's very likely there could be standing water, but I doubt that it's totally flooded. They are just concrete and very utilitarian anyway. Some water shouldn't cause significant damage. Seems other parts of Orlando area got worse flooding than WDW. Friends in Davenport didn't get any at their places.

Disney World To Begin Recalling Theme Park Cast Members As Soon As 9pm Tonight

As Walt Disney World readies to roll out a “phased” reopening of their theme parks and Disney Springs tomorrow, they have begun to notify Cast Members that they will need to report to work as soon as 9pm tonight. Cast Members are being told to report for their next scheduled shift that starts after 9pm tonight, September 29th. All scheduled Cast Members are expected to report to work tomorrow, September 30th.

Disney World has not announced what a “phased” reopening means yet, but they have committed to sharing more details later today.
