Disney Wonder $13k to Alaska vs $6k on RC

Well, no, I don't have to just do anything. But, the Ovation out of Seattle during May 2019 for an inside room and a balcony for a party of 4 is $7600. More than DCL? Yes. Double? Not even close.
I missed the part about 2 rooms, but it's still quite a bit of money. I'm sure with one room the price difference would be larger.

That makes no sense. Frozen has nothing dirty in it. None of the Disney family movies do.
Disney makes a lot of PG movies with a lot of violence, sexual innuendo and bad language. When I say it's G rate compared to a today's movies I'm not saying it's would actually be G rated. I have no idea how movies are rated. When I look for movies to take my kids too. I look for things that have no graphic nudity sex scenes. Finding movies without violence and bad language is next to impossible unless you just watch cartoons. Especially violence I think kids are pretty desensitized to that.

Anyway back to the topic at hand.

Kids are desensitized to violence because the cartoons have even more of it than the live action films do.

I travel with my son and sometimes my parents come along. While I love my parents dearly, sharing a room isn't an option. When pricing a room for the two of us, I rarely find a comparable trip that is half as expensive on another line. You may be right that the price difference is larger when you put more people in a room, but I haven't done that research since it's not relevant to my situation.

Alaska is probably the most expensive destination on any cruiseline. We did it without a balcony which saved thousands and I don't regret not having it.

I agree about the balcony for Alaska. If it were just the 2 of us, I would have gone ocean view. Turns out the balcony and inside combo was less expensive than 2 ocean view cabins and my parents preferred the balcony, so we went with it.

Has anyone studied the new Norwegian ship for Alaska with the multilevel go cart track?
I looked at it and even reached out to NCL about height requirements for the go kart track. DS is far too short (I'm barely tall enough) and, while he'd get over it, it wasn't an issue I wanted to deal with. For me, it was another example of how some of the other lines don't cater to families with young children as well as DCL. Perhaps when he's older we'll give it a shot.

Sooo does anyone on this thread have any tips/comments on Vancouver? We will be there for 3 days before our cruise. I have our days and activities planned, but I am always interested in hearing from those who have previously been to the city.
Are you a "Once Upon a Time" fan? If so, the suburb of Steveson doubles as Storeybrooke in the series...

I thought about the new Norwegian Bliss ship with the go carts, etc but it just seemed like such a huge ship for Alaska and would almost be too overwhelming. I decided I wanted something smaller and that weighed into my decision to choose the Wonder.

Agreed. It might seem weird to want to pay more to get “less” but the floating city style ships with a dozen restaurants, casinos and car tracks don’t appeal to me at all, especially not for a nature-oriented destination like Alaska.

Listen carefully to the lyrics of "Greased Lightning" in that film- they're R-rated. I wouldn't even be able to type them into this post.

There are also scenes showing teens choosing to have unprotected sex after the condom breaks, making fun of a girl for being a virgin, a girl coping with an unexpected pregnancy, etc. It's far from a G-film.
This was my favorite movie as a kid. Actually the first rental we got when my parents bought our VCR back in 81ish?? I was under 10. Watch this film obsessivly that weekend. About 5 times. It wasn’t until I saw the film as an adult when I even realized those sexual points mentioned above. My friends and I were obessed with wanting to be Sandy.

I did Alaska on Celebrity - I got 3 nights longer and took one extra person and a bigger room and a veranda versus what I had booked on DCL. I'm a huge DCL fan - going on my 9th cruise next month and our Grand Slam cruise - but I don't regret not going on them for Alaska. For me, that was all about the scenery and the ports. We had a great time and having the balcony was a huge bonus on the day we sailed near the glacier. The decks were packed so it was nice to have a balcony to go to. The onboard entertainment was a disappointed, but not such a big issue for me with Alaska.

BUT - not sure if I would sail a huge RC ship to Alaska. That is a lot of people to compete with when you get off for excursions, and from what I've read, I don't think on that particular ship there are a lot of good places to view the scenery if you don't have a balcony. If I were you I would look for another cruise line besides DCL but a smaller ship and get a balcony.

I know RCCL sails the Radiance in Alaska and that class of ship was designed for Alaska with lots of windows to the outside world in addition to deck space. True she doesn’t have all the bells and whistles (rock climbing wall is about it), but she is a gorgeous ship as are her sisters (well, Brilliance is...and I will experience Jewel in a couple of months).

We did not like the Serenade at all. I am still in amazement in the fact that they bring the luggage up on embarkation day through the passenger elevators midship, leaving only 2 of the 6 (I think that there were 6) for passenger use...

Interesting. I wonder if there was a problem with the ones usually used for luggage. I make it a practice to not use elevators whenever possible, but I thought they had some other than the 6 in the middle - like some forward and/or some aft?

The answer to who pays these prices is people like us. We are blessed to afford one or two cruises a year plus a trip or two to Disney world. We don’t do concierge and usually just get a ocean view cabin as we have found we rarely use the balcony. I know we are very lucky that price isn’t an issue and in fact I rarely pay attention until our travel
Agent tells me when final payment is due!

We have a disabled adult daughter who still loves the characters. We always bring her best friend wherever we go. We know they are safe to wander the ship on their own. The crew is unbelievably kind and considerate to them.

We have done all the itineraries and never for go less then 7 days but prefer longer. In June we are doing the 11 night fantasy cruise. We have done all the ports so we may or may not get off. And in sept we are doing the transatlantic from England to Ny. We pretty much treat the ships as a floating resort.

And our other daughter and grandchildren who are 16 and 21 still love the Disney ambiance. As does my husband who is never happier than watching our daughter interact with characters or watching the shows every night or watching Disney movies on deck. He is 72 and is still a Disney maniac.

As long as they are interested and we can afford it we will probably never do a family cruise on any ship other than Disney. For my husband and I when we are on our own we like Crystal or silver sea.

I don't think that they had elevators dedicated to bring up luggage on that ship. It was weird the way they did that, plus, all of the luggage sitting out in the Centrum of each floor was a surprise as well as they took it to each room...

That definitely seems weird because she is the third ship in the Radiance series, and Radiance and Brilliance definitely did NOT do that - so I don't see why they would take that away. It sounds more like something was not operational to get them where they're supposed to go.

I'll try to pay attention on Jewel (which is the baby sister of the Radiance Class) and see what they do.

Here are some images from that... We had to grab our bags ourselves and take them to the room...
