Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

Any advice in terms of arrival time (and which entrance to use) from those of you who ran the 10k? Reading through here it seems like chaos. I can do the WDW mornings in my sleep now (and often think I do!). Would like to try to make the meetup.

I finished!! This was a great race even though it was hard as heck for me (my own fault, gotta love surgeries/health complications/under training).

I was a little irritated with the woman running towards the back with a ballon…it was definitely not a ballon lady as I started in E and while I dropped back a bit I was at least 10-15 minutes in front of where the balloon ladies should have been pace wise. It lead to a bunch of people freaking out thinking they we’re about to get swept right before the cast member tunnel.

Someone also fell at the gate right before the finish line a little before I got there. My husband saw it happen and said there was a gap in the walkway where the gate would go and the person tripped on it and went down hard. Cast members were trying to get them in a wheelchair when I came through and it looked so painful. I hope they’re ok.

I’d say just get there earlier than you think you need to, especially if you’ll be coming from clementine. I’m sure they’ll adjust security for tomorrow but there were a lot of people who were racing up to corrals A-D still while they were doing the anthem

I was out the door at 3:20, probably got to the security line at 3:30 (which did not begin letting people through for several minutes).

BTW, Ant Man and the Wasp meeting at AC now. I’ve seen Thor, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel meeting here in the past. Def recommend seeing the Spider-Man show if you can.

My gf got C corral for today (B for 5k) and has G for tmrw. Has anyone else seen a discrepancy that big? She didn’t submit PoT or anything. Feels weird to me.

I've been seeing the craziest corral placements. A lot of them make no sense. I think I mentioned at some point here my friend got an earlier 5k corral than me with a slower estimated pace put in. It's like they randomized some of them.

did we just run in the princess or tinkerbell race?
mostly women finishers. Also finishers is down from the announced 8000 total starters as well

I mean, this weekend was originally Tink weekend through 2014 👀💚. That one didn't move to May until 2015.

That is a huge difference, though. It'll be interesting to see the distribution for the half tomorrow.

Glad y’all early corrals had a good time. I was in E and the photopass lines were so long that I didn’t get any photos.

I was in F with my friend. Those lines were crazy long. There's no way many of those people didn't get swept. Maybe they just decided it was worth it to get swept to get that photo :confused3

I left from my hotel at Katella and Clementine about 3:25, stood in the security line for maybe 10 minutes before it moved. I did go to the far right when I saw people coming up Disney Way to merge in. Got thru quick but they do make you walk all the way around to the other entrance once you're in the perimeter.

Meetup was short as we split once the corrals opened, maybe 4:15? But our chosen light pole was not in the kids area, nor was it taken over by Team in Training! I think a lot of people were rushing to get in and we didn't have a lot of time in general. Also the corrals are small! Not a lot of room to sit or warmup, even in back. At least not A or B.

That's exactly why they take balloons from people at the WDW races! Only the ballon ladies are allowed them, from what I've heard.

Security line on clementine is super long. This is making me very unhappy.
Oh yeah we got caught up in that as wheelchairs. Because even though we can’t go through the metal detectors (our devices won’t fit! Let alone they will set it off) but they still made us go through that line.

To say the least several of us were having choice words with rD staff once we got to the AWD tent. I know that won’t help y’all in the morning necessarily but maybe they’ll have it better organized.

I know at the very least there was some annoyance about the lack of bike escorts yesterday. And they fixed it today.

Not liking being a Guinea pig but it is what it is.
No photopass at the castle?! Thank goodness for kind security taking pics in fantasyland!
Yeah that was definitely a choice.

Also the photo pass after we passed through the castle wasn’t taking photos because of course she wasn’t.

Yeah you have my sympathies because of what happened with me. By the time I hit the parks all the lines were 20 minutes long just about. So I skipped everything that wasn’t Rescue Rangers.

I got to spend 10 minutes this morning trouble shooting. I got out of the start and heard my wheel making noises. Turned out the Velcro that straps me got loose and was rubbing against the right wheel. Terrified me and made me think I had a flat. And I don’t have a back up mobility device let alone one I can grab in the middle of the 10k. But we got it resolved.

Side note if you heard swearing coming off of Pixar Pier hill. That was me. Apologies I don’t like swearing but I was done with some people only 2 miles in.

In someone infinite wisdom despite seeing the bike. Despite the multiple warnings I gave two people thought they could beat physics and cut in front of me. Eventually got both of them to move but it wasn’t fun considering this was one of the hills that no matter how much I put the brake on I’m still going to be flying.

That isn’t even starting on the dude in GE who got annoyed when we told him that yes he needs to move. No I don’t turn well my pal

I’m off to try and see if I can’t track down the photos I know I had some random people take of me. And get breakfast

We had a great race! My son mostly failed at his character picture job though 🤣. We had a strategy of every other character but for sureScrooge.So…. Character #1 Scrooge. No son. But he said it was Huey, Dewey, louie when he went by so I’ll give him a pass. The line was way too long and it was too early in the race, so I didnt stop. Then he’s texting me frantically that he’s in the carsland photo line. He got to the front and we weren’t there yet. He like what do I do? Anyway, we got there… not a character. 🤣 But we told him okay, skip next. See the next one. Ended up being Launchpad. Perfect!

But long story short, he didnt stop for chip and dale. I wish I’d stopped for that but oh well. I met The Expert just past the weird duck. My husband struggled hard the last two miles but I felt good. My back is spasming now though which worries me For tomorrow. It’s bother me since I crashed snow tubing but this is the worst since right when it happened.

All in all, a fun race with not enough characters!

Ugh I’m so sorry people were inconsiderate. I don’t understand why people don’t give space and grace to people using mobility devices or AWD. I know people want to try and get PRs and stuff but honestly I’d rather miss out on a few seconds (which is all it would be in the end) over hurt someone else or myself. I wish others felt the same

Sounds like fun! Did you start in corral A for the Marathon Weekend 10K?
Yes, I did. It was wave 3??? Possibly 4. I’d have to go back and look. It was terrible. Wall of walkers from the start. I ran that 10K with 7 stops in 1:13 and this one in 1:00:43 (almost sub one!) with 8 stops and to tie my shoe. Today I was more towards the front, but stayed off to the side to let the fast people take off. Probably would have been wave 2 at WDW.

Trying to be less of a lurker and more of a contributor, so here goes! i am not usually a negative Nellie, but this is gonna sound like it for sure.

I didn’t love having to pay full price for parking. Come on.....$30 to be out of the lot before park open? WDW wins

Paying for PhotoPass when most character stops didn’t even HAVE a PhotoPass photog? WDW wins. Happy to pay for PICTURES—but not when I have to use my camera to take them. And no castle shots?! Booooo

Vintage metal detectors and bag search? Gah! We parked at 3:15 and went straight to pre race area and it took 45 minutes. Some of the detectors were glitching and they kept having to reset them. WDW wins

Very little signage about where to go from parking to pre-race to corrals and lots of yelling by catst members about where NOT to be. Even though there was no direction given about where TO be.

The course itself was fun...though narrow at times. I was back in D so I know that contributed for sure. and it for sure limited pic options because the lines had become too long. Like others have said, they missed a bunch of opportunities by limiting the race to ducks.

Not tempted anymore for Halloween. Maybe they need a few more years to get back on their feet?

Hoping tomorrow runs more smoothly!

I was (weirdly) in E today and in D for tomorrow. I read somewhere (maybe here) that they were randomly assigining for DEF, and it certainly felt like it. I love the course--definitely the best with all that park time--and it was nice not to have to wait forever in the corrals for wave after wave of runners to get going. Even back in E, I felt like there were very few crowding issues. Pleased to see most people walking on right, and no real bottlenecks. It felt like there were very few racers, which was nice, but definitely gave me food for thought for those in the back corrals. Not much time for character stops, bathroom, etc. I will be interested in how far the balloon ladies started after A--if anyone has that or knows their bib number please post.

I left the Grand at about 3:50 and it felt like that was pretty good timing. A little annoying to have to go through two security lines (one into DD and one into the corrals). And I agree with others that it did feel very disorganized and not well thought through at times.

My observations/comments:
--4 security screeners on the Harbor side ... really? What were they thinking on that. They could have used double that number. The line moved, but it was still unnecessarily long. By time I got through they were pointing everyone to the corrals. As I was in E they told E and F to go left BEFORE entering the race area. This was fine for me, but for people with bags to check they got all the way down to the corral and had to turn back.
--No trashcans in the corrals. Ugh. I had to walk out of the corral to the bathroom area (not quick) to find a trashcan. People were just throwing stuff on the side.
--as others have said ... really disappointing number of photographers. I counted 3 in CA and 3 or 4 in DL (including the one photographer at the castle who wasn't taking pictures and was just standing there).
--No race pictures at the end with photographers--what? I didn't believe my husband when he said there weren't photographers at the end for the 5k.
--Entertainment on course was kind of meh.
--But on the positive side ... loved how quickly we were off and as I mentioned earlier, loved that it didn't feel nearly as crowded as usual.
--loved all the park time!
--and most of all ... love that RD is back in Anaheim!!!

Can't wait for tomorrow!
