Thanks - I thought that was too good to be true. :)

I have read reviews and there are some pool, partial lagoon, and marina views that people have said they received as a standard view. I think the majority of the standard rooms are garden. If you get a monorail or parking view....look at the bright side.... you are close to transportation! Nothing better than a short walk to the room after a long day at the parks!! :) Good luck!

We are heading back to the Poly at the end of January and I am looking for some guidance on choosing a longhouse to request at online check-in. The last time we were at the Poly was in 2012 and we stayed in Tahiti, but I no longer see this longhouse on the map (maybe due to the DVC changes?).

We are looking for a quiet room with a balcony away from the main pool (and the quiet pool due to construction). We have small children so a longhouse closer to the Great Ceremonial House and TTC would be great! I would love to hear suggestions on which longhouses fit these criteria?

My husband suggested Rarotonga so I was wondering if anyone has feedback on this longhouse?

Thanks so much! :-)

We just booked the Poly CL for April. Can you tell me how the food offerings were during the day? I've heard so many mixed reviews not sure if it is worth the extra money.
Sorry I am just seeing this. During the day it was only snacks. As for evening food you can email the concierge and get a copy of the food offerings. We expected to use the evening offerings and we never did :( ... We were out in the parks during this time. I would stay say it was worth the cost. I LOVED LOVED staying in Hawaii building.

Tahiti is now DCV's Moorea. Only stayed in Moorea once...loved it! Yes, very quiet, so I know what you're looking for. Rarotonga facing the monorail should be relatively quiet. Pool facing, you might hear more. This would also be the best choice for being closest to GCH and TTC.

Booked in a DVC studio. Please tell me I wont be upset. We stayed garden view last year, and had a pool view. It was AMAZING! I don't love the DVC longhouse choices and afraid i"ll regret it. Please tell me why I'll love it, and perhaps your opinion on best longhouse and why. Things we loved about Samoa, was being able to watch the kids in the pool from our room, quick walk to beach for wishes, 2 normal queen sized beds and right by GCH/Food. I know i'm being a brat, but just humor me :)

Just returned from the Polynesian on Jan. 2. It was a short trip, arrived 12/30. Some insights: We were in Aotearoa. room #1210. We had great view of the monorail. it was actually peaceful to sit on the patio. I was amazed at the crowds of people watching the fireworks from the Poly beach. I watched Fantasy in the Sky both 12/30 and 12/31. On 12/30 we were already on the beach about 2 hours prior to fireworks and had great seats. on 12/31 though....WOW! You could barely see sand from all the people. It was so crowded that we watched the fireworks from within the pool gates(for the first time, I was actually thankful for that fence). All in All, it was a great trip and I am honestly shocked that I barely encountered huge crowds(we avoided MK until Jan. 1). Can't wait to return home REAL soon :-)

Hello, we just came back from a fabulous week stay at the Polynesian and I requested room 3914 (3rd floor) Tokelau through touringplans and actually got that room. I paid for a standard view but due to the room being on the end of the building we actually had a theme park view and what a great view. I only have great reviews about the resort from the moment we stepped of the magical express until we left. This was our first time at the Polynesian and I really wanted to just be at the resort the whole time instead of the parks. Everyone was over the top friendly and our room and the resort was very clean. I loved everything about the resort. I hope I get a chance to stay there again in the future and I wished they bottled the smell in the lobby!

I'll humor you! I've had 3 Poly room stays and 2 Poly DVC studio stays in the last 2 years. All-in-all I'm just happy to stay there BUT, since you asked, I'll put my 2 cents in on room vs. DVC studio (I'll refer to as DVC from here on). If I HAD to choose, and it was 2-3 people, I'd choose the regular rooms. I love their location and their nostalgic décor better than the DVC. They are plenty big enough for 3 adults, the daybed is comfy to sleep on. Now if it was 4+ I'd choose the DVC just for the split bathroom option. Those split bathrooms are HUGE. Makes getting ready so much more convenient.

I love the décor in the regular rooms, and I love the location of the rooms. I've only stayed once in Tokelau (pre DVC) facing the quiet pool and twice in Samoa facing the pool - so I've been spoiled with those views. Any of the regular room longhouses is a quick walk to the GCH, boat to MK, luau, etc.

The DVC décor is new & fresh but very very orange if you ask me! The rooms are spacious but I'm not crazy about the location. My 1st DVC stay I was in Moorea overlooking the TTC parking lot - it was standard view so that's what I paid for, but it was so un-magical! It WAS a convenient walk to the TTC but I rarely use that transportation option. In Dec. we were in DVC Tokelau standard view (not the quiet pool side) and we did have a partial MK view which was awesome - we could see SM, CR, WL & the ferry boat from the TTC. Lovely location but just a tad farther than regular longhouses to the GCH, boat to MK, etc.

How old are the kids? I slept on the couch in DVC both times - without pulling it out - and it was comfy & plenty big once you take the back cushions off. I didn't try the pull down bed but once we had another adult use that & they said it was fine. When are you going? The old East Pool was under major construction in December, that faces the one side of DVC Tokelau. Not sure if those rooms are in inventory during construction or not.

Enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the input!

How noisy is the monorail itself when it goes by? My kids are light sleepers!

I'm also looking at Aotearoa and was wondering if anyone has any input on requesting that longhouse? Thanks!

The villas are larger than the regular rooms, but that extra space is consumed by the 2 bathrooms. So the bedroom area feels a bit more spacious in the regular rooms (IMO), but you could also argue that the villas feel more spacious because you can fold up one of the beds into a couch. The regular rooms have a desk with a rollout table beneath it, providing plenty of "work surfaces," while the villas have only a smaller table.

Both definitely have their pros and cons!

I frequently stay at BWV, which may explain my question, but is the second need that folds up usually open or closed when you first check in?

We are down to single digits!! However, we did receive the email that the monorail may not be running on a "normal" schedule during our stay. We will be there over MLK weekend (1/14-1/19). Any thoughts on if the monorail will be down a ton over a holiday weekend?

We received the same email back in September and never had an issue. For a busy weekend like MLK i'd doubt they reduce it.

We are booked for our first stay in a std view studio this May and I've been trying to figure out what longhouse to request (fully understanding it's just a request...). That's so amazing your request came thru. It sounds like you had an amazing view. Do you have any pics you could share that show what your view was like? How much of the castle could you see, and could you see the fireworks from your room? TIA!!!

The second bed should normally be folded up as a couch when you first check in.

Are you a DVC member or did you rent points? Curious to see if TP would work for renting points...

Hello I will try my best to put some pictures on but unfortunately I have no idea how to do that and I am also new at posting so I am not sure if I do that correctly. But the view was fabulous. Since we were the very last room on the 3rd floor our balcony was a full front view with the right side of the balcony opened as well. We had a perfect view of the castle and could watch the fireworks and the water pageant. I could have sat on the balcony forever and never left it. I also loved listening to the ferry horn and watching the boats on the lake. Words can not do this view justice. I hope I figure out how to post some pictures I took from my Iphone. Thanks for asking.
