Can anyone tell me if I transfer a reservation to DU, will I still have full control over it on the DCL website? Also, would they have any pull in getting my Dad and I a Palo reservation? I'm Platinum, we are 76 days out and there is no availability. This is a special cruise as its his first time going on vacation since my Mom died 2 years ago. They were together over 50 years and loved DCL. When I told him I was buying this trip for him and I, he cried. I just want it to be perfect, this is probably the last cruise we will get to go on together and I want it to be perfect. I've never asked for special treatment on my prior 14 cruises but if a TA has some pull, I'm willing to transfer!
No. They don’t make your dining reservations. No pull. You will not have full control. They will book your cruise, cancel your cruise, take your payment. You will get DU OBC. That is the extent of their involvement with you and your trip.

@candisfl Perhaps you can get your Dad to share stories of his past cruises with your mother and consider doing the things that were special to him. If he enjoyed dressing up for formal night, be sure he still has everything necessary for his outfit - including a smartly dressed partner.

It May just be a nice set of photos he can enjoy for years to come and remember your time together.

Did your parents call Room Service to have the cheese tray on their balcony at Sail Away?

Some people want new experiences and don’t want to mess around with old, good ones.

Just being with his daughter and spending time together may be what will help.

>>Palo: definitely go to the place designate3 for Dining Changes in Boarding Day to check in availability. Parties of 2 run into this often.

Do you mind sharing his name?
I don't mind sharing. His name is Chris V. As I said earlier, he has been great, and quick to respond. Excellent advice, planning, and being in concierge twice now he has sent my requests in at midnight of the booking opening and both times I've gotten all my requests including a cabana last December and now this December as well on the Wish.

Good to know. I put in a transfer request to them on Friday and still haven't heard back. I probably won't bother, its only a $75 OBC. Not much for spending 3400 for 2 people for 3 nights. I'll pass.

One of his absolute favorite things was Palo and I can't get in. Fingers crossed we can when we board.

A few of the cruises they took were with me and my Ex-Husband. He and my Mom were inseparable, both were morning folks and they loved early walks on deck 4 and resting on the Deck 4 loungers with their coffee. He and I are both Florida natives born in Lakeland so Disney has been a huge part of both our lives. I've been going since I was a baby. So Disney in general is special to him, he just feels like no else can top their magic. He also loves Castaway Cay so we are both praying for good weather that day and a long relaxing day on serenity bay. We will probably skip Nassau and explore the ship. We are very similar in that we both like to just chill, read a book and watch the ocean go by. My Mom was like the energizer bunny and she never let him sit still.

Ok, now I'm just getting too nostalgic and am about to cry. We miss her so much. The important thing is that he gets out of hiding in his house, moping, and do something to kickstart his life again. He is 73 but his life doesn't have to be over.

Thanks for everyone's help with all my random questions these past few days. I've been a bit manic lately and my anxiety has been running the show.

I think you mentioned you are 75 days out (maybe less now) -- are you PIF? Unfortunately you cannot transfer if you have already paid in full, or if it was initially booked more than 30 days ago. DCL's rules.

Condolences on the loss of your mother. Is there a special souvenir, or port adventure, or onboard activity that your dad would enjoy? Maybe a photo book from this cruise to remember the father-daughter trip. Or maybe the "something special" could just be ordering room service and sitting on your balcony together, reminiscing about your mom. It's times like that that tend to stick with me as "special." Enjoy your cruise!

ohhhh... yes, I paid the balance in full at the time purchase. That explains why no one is rushing to help me from DU. Room service and conversation sounds nice. We have a deluxe verandah GTY so we will have one. He doesn't drink alcohol and I am close to quitting, my body doesn't tolerate it well anymore. I have so much to research and so little time because work is killing me right now!!! This is why I appreciate all the advice everyone has provided

Don’t be deterred from visiting the bars on board just because you don’t want alcohol. You and your father can ask for non-alcoholic drinks, or even just sit, look around, enjoy performers, and not drink anything.

Morning walks and lounging sound like a lovely way to enjoy being out of the house together.

My parents have both passed, but I still talk (and have active dreams) about them. Sort of that if you remember them, they are still with you mentality. It works better when you have happy memories. Tears just show how much they meant to you. It’s a positive release.

Just don’t fret trying to create something special. It’s like children and gifts - how they end up playing with the box. Just being with you in a happy place might be the thing he enjoys.

Hope you both have some healing time.

Yep, sure was. Called the number on their website & they gave me the ABD specialist's number. When I got the specialist, he told me he was the main DU contact for ABD & proceeded to tell me I was bothering him & he wouldn't answer my Qs because I hadn't gone through the website quote request first. (Seemed really mad that the main desk had told me to call him.) I didn't want to request a quote until my Qs about the trip were answered to see if it was right for us.

Then he kinda cut me off. With his attitude even before a trip was booked, I would never risk that type of customer service after booking. Happy to have booked the trip with my travel agent for a great discount & pleasant service.

Been using my DU TA for cruising for over 10 years who is always reliable and professional. Had the opposite experience when requested an online quote with the DU ABD TA. It was very similar to the experience described above, except with emails. I book my own ABDs now but very happy with my cruise TA!

We’ve used DU for several cruises. They book. I often tell them exactly what I want, so less work they have to even do. Not that I’m trying to save them, I just know what we are looking for. But, I found another company that offered me double the obc of dreams. Has anyone heard of Cruiseobc? I’d like a review or two before jumping ship so to speak.

While I will always respect honest feedback of DU (honestly!) I need to draw the line at sending folks to other specific TAs on threads here. I am going to lock the thread as that is the way it is heading.

I implore anyone who is having issues with any DU agent to please contact the owner John directly so he can step in. john@dreamsunlimited.com @WebmasterJohn
