DVC Point Rental - Wait or Change My Request? Help!

Hi All!

I currently have a pending point rental request for 2 standard rooms at Poly for October 2020 through David's. I submitted my request in early November and I'm still waiting but I've been told that my request has moved toward the front of the queue. At this point, my options are to:

- Wait it out and hope they come through, at least by the 7 month mark
- Make the reservations non-contingent so that we don't have to wait until all the points are available at the same time. Of course, the risk is that one room gets booked but possibly no availability by the time the rest of the points come through for the second room.
- Move to a different wait list for BLT Lake View - this obviously isn't guaranteed either but I was told we may have a better shot at this.

My main concern is convenience since we'll be traveling with my 18-month-old so BLT would satisfy that. But overall I find BLT/Contemporary to be a little cold and it's not my first choice. Poly is my dream resort! Should I just wait it out? I'm leaning toward the non-contingent option because Poly does consistently seem to have availability past the 7 month mark.

Anyone have experience with this or something similar?

Also, let me just mention that my experience with David's has been wonderful so far. I know they can only do so much and they've been very responsive/detailed in their emails.

I don’t have an answer for you but I am also on their wait list for BLT. They told me the wait list was considerably shorter at BLT. If you’re at the top of the list I would think surely you could wait it out. But this is my first time as well so it is pure speculation.

The queue is a little bit of a lie. Owners can pick and choose which booking to take. It's not like a ride queue where if you're in front, you're next.

It's going to be hard to find a Poly owner renting with points enough for two units. Might be easier at BLT, since BLT had higher minimum buy in and people bought for larger units in the first place.

I waited for a particular room type/resort with Dave’s Rental, and it worked out fine. I was nervous waiting though! 2 rooms seems more difficult. Maybe talk to Dave’s about their view and opinion. Other option - book rooms at poly (non-dvc) you can cancel if the rooms fall through.

did you check the dvc rentals on these boards to see if there is a Poly owner you could rent from? even if you could rent 1 room directly from a Poly owner you have a better chance of getting both in the end. I can tell you the Poly studios will be much larger than the BLT rooms and if it's your dream resort I'd try to wait it out. we just stayed there in August for the 1st time and I absolutely loved it. I stayed years ago at BLT and we enjoyed our time there as well but it's not a favorite

When we rented points, we wanted 3 beach club studios. We waited months and months at the top of the queue until I finally made them non contingent. I realized there weren’t a lot of single owners with 500+ BCV points to rent and I would have a better shot at finding 3 different owners. Within days of doing that I had all 3 reservations secured. It’s a gamble but it did pay off for us.

Before I did that I had Davids look up availability around my dateS. They told me everything was still wide open so I did feel like I had some time.

Most poly owners only bought enough points for studio stays - you need 2 studio reservations at the same time. It will be hard to find a poly owner with enough points to book both studios at the same time for you.

I would make them able to be booked separately.

Agree with PP that the waitlist isn’t guaranteed for the person at the top to have the next booking. You may be at the top of the list, but it doesn’t matter if no poly owner has enough points to rent to you.

I just rented some points out thru a rental service. I made a reservation for someone who had been on the BWV waitlist for food and wine. I only wanted to rent out 100 points, so if the person at the top of the BWV waitlist wanted a grand villa, they were out of luck since I only had the points for a studio!

Thank you all for your input! I'm almost positive I'm going to go with the non-contingent option and I'll update this post with more details just in case anyone else has this same issue. Poly seems to have somewhat consistent availability up until the 7 month mark and slightly beyond so I'm hopeful that both of my requests can be met. Am I correct to assume that once the 7-month mark hits, any points (no matter the home resort) can be used to book Poly?

I totally understand that even if I'm toward the top of the queue, others can bounce ahead of me if their number of points can be met before mine. David's actually said that most of the people in front of me are traveling families with contingent requests, too. So hoping the non-contingent option will help out!

Didn't think of this but good idea! I'll take a look on the rental board too.

In October, if Poly is available at 8am at 7 months, it is not at 8:02am. As well, a DVC owner cannot see how many units are available when booking, just if there is one of the type they are booking. They cannot hold two at once during a booking process in a cart. They need to be ready to book at 7:59am to have any shot.

I think it would be a miracle to get two Poly studios for fall at 7 months via a rental agency. Owners don't lurk at 7:59am for rental agencies at 7 months for bookings. We can make the same money at 10am booking something less fraught.

October is one of the busiest times for DVC. DVC peak times and park peak times don't necessarily coincide. You're also looking at two resorts on the monorail line during the very popular MNSSHP season. If it were me, I would go with whatever gives you the best probability. IMO, that would be non-contingent and having a backup plan for the folks in the second room to stay elsewhere if need be. You'd have to be ok with running a real risk of ending up at two separate resorts. If that's not an option, I would move to the BLT wait list or even over to a resort like AKV, SSR, or OKW where you're most likely to get something now or even at 7 months.

You could also see if https://www.dvcstore.com/ has better luck. For our July 2020 trip, https://dvcrequest.com/ couldn't get us a https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/boardwalk-villas/ studio at 11 months. I contacted https://www.dvcstore.com/, which doesn't require a deposit. They found something that day, so I immediately canceled https://dvcrequest.com/, with the deposit refunded since I was on the waitlist. However, the opposite happened for Thanksgiving week for a https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/bay-lake-tower-at-contemporary/ studio. https://dvcrequest.com/ didn't have anything immediately at 11 months, and I got on the waitlist. https://www.dvcstore.com/ didn't have anything either, so I got on their wait list. Within a couple of hours after https://dvcrequest.com/ first contacted me, they had something, so I then got off of https://www.dvcstore.com/ waitlist. This only works since https://www.dvcstore.com/ does not require a deposit. If you do this, please be sure to immediately communicate with them or https://dvcrequest.com/ if your plans change. Sorry for all of the URLs; just following the rules.

When a member checks for availability, they can only see if ONE villa is available. They cannot see if more than one of the same type and booking category is available.

Any DVC point rental company will have the same availability. What can be different is the member with the points you need. Most members go with the company that pays them the most and requires the least work by them. If they get more of their money sooner or get more money in total, that's the broker they are going to list with. But if you need to wait until seven months out for Oct through mid-January you probably won't get it. And multiple villas are going to be hard at that time also.

Hi!

I really have no advice, but I just rented points for the Poly at the 7-month mark today for our stay in August. I used the rental board on this forum. Within the 7-month window, points can be used at any DVC resort, so you don’t necessarily need to rent from someone with Poly points. If you can’t find a renter on this forum, there are quite a few FB groups for renting points.

I find renting from the person directly, rather than through David’s or other rental agencies, a couple dollars cheaper per point. It’s super easy. I only contacted the renter last night, and after a few emails back and forth, I paid and received the confirmation number, and I have the reservation all set up in MDE already.

One other thing -

We stayed at BLT two years ago on rented points and the studios are really small. I haven’t stayed in a Poly studio yet - just a room on the resort side - but the Poly rooms are much larger. I think the DVC rooms may be a little larger than the resort rooms. For that alone, the Poly would get my vote. Plus, I like the theming of the Poly more.

We waited it out at David’s and got 2 studios at the Poly for a pretty long trip. But in March, so from what I’ve read easier. We were still within the home resort window, but 8ish months or so IIRC.

I think we got very lucky to get an owner renting that many points at the Poly. We were nervous to split and do 2 owners. If you don’t get either of your rental choices, is renting the rooms at those resorts through Disney out of your budget? I would change the request to BLT if that’s the case, and losing the rentals means losing the resorts all together.

We’ve stayed at BLT with 2 year olds twice, that walk is unbeatable. Even by the Poly, IMO. No better resort for MK heavy trips with little ones.

Update! We changed our request to non-contingent on 1/10, got our first room by 1/19 and the second by 1/21. So we are all booked and ready for the Poly in October!

Thanks again for all of the advice & feedback!

I'm really happy it worked out for you.
