Everything Genie, Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane - Please Read Posts 1-7

Is Hollywood studios still the "hardest" park to use lightning lane? When I went solo right after genie came out I read and read and read and developed my HS strategy. If you read back far enough on the just back thread you will see me talk about a couple in the bus line having a full on argument after the 7am drop..

Anyway.. I want to take a more chill approach to HS for this trip and soak in the park a bit more, but also want to hit up some favorite rides. I'll buy genie+. We've done rise multiple times on both coasts so I don't plan to splurge on ILL for it. Will ride if the time drops down, but it's not a must.

I'm just kinda wondering the best approach considering we might rope drop coffee.. lmao! We will have early entry. I would like to do SDD at night as we haven't done that before. Does SDD LL
Still go super fast? I was thinking of trying to watch for a night time slot for it and maybe rope drop RR and TT. Hubby doesn't do smugglers so I could do single rider. I want to see the shows as they weren't open when we went last.
Yes, Slinky Dog still goes fast. According to thrill-data.com, today at 7:05 am, SDD return time was after 7:00 pm.

Rock n Roller Coaster is temporarily closed, unfortunately, but Tower of Terror is a good one to do at rope drop.

Oh I knew RR closed. Maybe it will be open by June but maybe not.

I was less frustrated with DHS and more-so with EPCOT during my January/February trip. EPCOT ran out of Frozen and Remy quickly and Test Track sold out not long after them. There was no need for any of the other rides to have Genie+. DHS had Slinky go fast, but I could've gotten every other ride while I was there.

I really like HS for a late-day stack Genie+ in particular but also even for a day you are arriving early. You may not get all the headliners, but I feel like almost all the rides get long lines, so even if you can't get everything you want (which I think you can if you are diligent and willing to refresh) you can still get enough rides to feel like you get a value.

Been here since Saturday with a group of 9. Been able to do everything we want using Genie + and ILL. Was not able to modify any LL.

Is it possible to get a lightning lane for Remy if you are not on-site? And if you can get it, can you get it before 8pm? The return of Epcot Forever is a big reason we are going., so we will want to be done with rides by 8. We are staying at Universal this trip and going to Epcot one day. I was considering getting genie plus but this morning at 8:58am lightning lane was already gone for Remy.
We will be there Friday April 7th it this has an impact.
Thanks

Every now and then an earlier one might open up if someone has modified there time to a later one, but next week is one of the busiest weeks on the calendar, so I don't know what that will do to times...

You don't need to be staying on site to book a Genie+ reservation at 7 am. Genie+ bookings are not tied to hotel stay. Be sure to grab Remy first thing (as in, at exactly 7:00 and no later) and you should be able to at least get a morning time.

I didn’t know that thanks!
Did it used to be that way or am I misremembering?

Remy used to be ILL$, now it's G+, so you may be remembering specifically the way it was before?
We have never used genie plus when staying offsite before I just thought I had remembered that on-site guests could book at 7am and offsite guests had to wait till park opening. Was it just the Individual one that uses to do that and not all of genie plus?
This is our first trip onsite at universal instead of Disney so everything is different for us!
Either way I’m glad I decided to ask as I would have bought genie plus at midnight the night before and then waited until 9am to make my first selection!!
I also didn’t know that you could modify your selections either, apparently I should have read up more on it. Last time I think we were fairly happy with our selections and never tried to change things.

I believe it was the ILL$ that has always been different, with G+ I do think it was the same time for everyone. I think the modify function has changed since it first rolled out, either way at least you can check (much like park reservations changed as well, where you can modify without canceling first).

So at 7am if I want an afternoon Remy should I just take what’s available so that I will be able to make my next reservation right at 9am and then just modify the Remy time for the afternoon as it moves forward? Then at 9am I should be able to get a not too late Test Track and then 11am hopefully a night frozen? Then at 1pm I can make a Soarin or Spaceship earth as those seem to have availability about 30-60 minutes ahead all day.
Unless modifying your time resets your next one?

I would recommend reading the posts on page 1 of this thread as they explain how to use Genie+ (and how to modify) in great detail.
I read through and understand now thanks. So looking at today as an example it would be impossible to get a lightning lane for Remy, Test Track and Frozen unless one of those you got a return time for very soon after park opening. We used it in Epcot this august and had a great time as we were able to get Remy, Frozen, Test Track, Soarin, Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, Nemo and Figment all in one day for I think $15 a person. Next Friday at $29 a person and probably being able to only get 2 out of the 3 big rides plus a selection of smaller rides I’ll have to really think if it’s a good value for the money for a family of 4.
