"Five Mickey bars hit you like two glasses of wine!" a Jan 2019 adults-only TR *COMPLETED* 6/25

My introduction to Disney dining actually
Wow what an introduction! Whoever suggested Sanaa for your first Disney restaurant was a genius. They deserve an award.

I need to try the curry there, love me some fabulous curry.
I didn't get to try it (Jon was still not okay with sharing food with me after the great stomach flu of 2019), but he said it was amazing!

Ok I can't for the life of me figure out who you guys are Disneybounding as. I was scrolling through initially and didn't even realize it was a Disneybound. I'm stumped. Do love the skirt though.
It's Thor & Loki, but I know it's not super obvious. I just really wanted to wear that gold skirt again :P

I think I'm the only DISer who has never had that bread service from Sanaa.
Yep, you're definitely the last one :rotfl2:

I loved the gorilla hanging out with his blanket. That's too adorable.
He's just so chill about his blanket. I wish I had his confidence to carry a blanket around with me. Do you know how much that would come in handy?

Sounds like it was a really pleasant afternoon in the park, and I'm hoping that carried over into DS.
It really was!

So, I'm bound to get to Sanaa really soon!
You need to!

For someone that was lazy and didn't want to take his 6 Christmas trees down until the end of January, I would have been fine listening to the African Christmas music.
Hahaha, fair point

Your commentary of the kids with the hippo was hilarious!
Based on a true story :P

Very cool that you got front row! I usually always ask for the front row when I ride EE. I love the view from the top of the mountain!
I like front row but Jon doesn't like waiting longer for it so it's nice when it just happens!

Wow what an introduction! Whoever suggested Sanaa for your first Disney restaurant was a genius. They deserve an award.

Lol no one suggested it to us. My first ever night in Disney we didn't go to a park and just stayed at our resort, which happened to be Kidani. We wanted a sit down and had a dining credit for the night so we just happened upon it and used it there. This was almost 9 years ago when nobody knew about it since it and Kidani were so new so I like to think the popularity now is my impact since I raved about it FOREVER hehehe

It's Thor & Loki, but I know it's not super obvious. I just really wanted to wear that gold skirt again :P

Wow, I hate myself. Loki's my favorite 5ever. I think making the connection to the red shirt threw me off. Ugh, I'm mad. I'm a fake Asgardian stan.

Sounds like such a nice day!! And your outfit (though I didn't know what it was until I read your comments) is absolutely adorable, that skirt is awesome!!

Sounds like such a nice day!! And your outfit (though I didn't know what it was until I read your comments) is absolutely adorable, that skirt is awesome!!
Thank you! I made the skirt for a golden snitch outfit for Celebration of Harry Potter last January and I just really wanted to wear it again!

Every time I see your Report Title, I giggle...I LOVE it...

So, I actually said "EEWWW" out loud when reading the kid had his mouth on the glass of the Hippo pond!

The gorilla makes you say "AWWW" and want to go in there and give him a hug...I'm sure he would hug me back...:rolleyes1

I did not get the Disney bound...but then I am not a huge Marvel fan...I know shoot me now...at least I do know who Thor and Loki was...:p

And I too am one that has never been to Sanaaa and had their bread service, but it is on my list for September

Lynn

Completely LOL'd at your comment about the Christmas music at AK on 1/14 :rotfl: my brother and gf were there the same week and I had told them they definitely wouldn't see any Christmas and they saw everything lol I just feel like they dragged it on a bit too long this year!

Also, LOVE the skirt!! I'm glad it was sunny so the pics could get the full effect!

Every time I see your Report Title, I giggle...I LOVE it...
The quote is pretty self explanatory but I'll make sure I explain the details surrounding its necessity in a later post :P

I'm sure he would hug me back...:rolleyes1
Yeah see I'm pretty sure if I tried to hug a gorilla it would sense my fear and pull my arms off.

I know shoot me now...at least I do know who Thor and Loki was
Hey everyone has their own preferences! I for one, am not the biggest fan of hugging gorillas.

And I too am one that has never been to Sanaaa and had their bread service, but it is on my list for September
Hey @amazingact21 you're not the only one left!

I just feel like they dragged it on a bit too long this year!
YUP! I like Halloween on it's own but at Disney I'm even more grateful for it because it is the one thing keeping them from having Christmas decorations up 6 out of 12 months each year.

I'm glad it was sunny so the pics could get the full effect!
I didn't realize the full sparkle until the Everest photo but dang that thing can be blinding :rotfl:

Hahaha you are totally right about Halloween! Although I feel like now it will be Halloween July-October at some point! :rotfl:

I feel like personally I would rather WDW take a note from DLR and put up some adorable Valentines decorations instead!

Hi there!
Subbing in. I'm too short on time right now to comment on the previous chapters... but I will! :)

In Which We Eat Bacon From A Clothesline

Our first (yes first) reservation of the night wasn’t until 6pm so we were a little early, but I had some shopping I wanted to do before P&A arrived. But not too much shopping, because Jon was with me and he was not in a shopping mood (which I honestly can’t fathom because I’m in a shopping mood 96% of the time).

We ran to Basin to snag a Mickey bath bomb for my bath-obsessed friend back home who so very kindly takes care of our cat while we are away. I got her one like a year ago and she finally confessed to me that she’s never used it because she doesn’t want to waste it! So I promised to bring her another one so she could finally use it :P BTW, the Mickey bath bombs are really cute if you’ve never tried them!

The next stop was an absolute must- Sephora. I forgot to pack setting spray, and if you know anything about makeup, you know how big of a deal setting spray is. I don’t go anywhere without it! Except Disney World in January 2019, apparently. Anyway, I knew exactly what I wanted and where it was so I told Jon I wouldn’t be very long (and I wasn’t. Two minutes, tops). But when I came out, he had gotten all settled onto a bench and was in full-on relax mode. I think he’s just really used to me spending half a day at the makeup store :P

We popped into a few more shops to waste time but didn’t find anything else we wanted (well I found stuff I wanted but Jon was giving me the look so I didn’t buy any of it). Finally we got a text that P&A were almost there so we went to the bus stop to meet them! There was hugging, there was laughing, there was a tragic clown juggling violins WHILE playing them… JK hahaha I don’t hug.

And it was finally time for the meal that I quite possibly was looking forward to the most out of this whole trip- our progressive dinner at Disney Springs.

First up- apps and drinks at The Edison.

I got the Time Turner, which was delightfully fruity (and full of rum), A got the Edison which was “so, so good,” P got a Manhattan which he eloquently described as a “good Manhattan,” and Jon got his signature drink- lemonade with a splash of Sprite.

For apps we decided to split three- the deviled eggs, chips and guac, and of course the clothesline candied bacon.

[They are topped with potatoes. This is groundbreaking. I shan’t ever look at deviled egg again unless it comes adorned with crispy potato strings.]

[Pretty standard chips and guac. The chips almost seem house-made and they were a pleasant surprise.]

[This photo is blurry because I was in such a hurry to ingest the bacon that a clear photo was simply impossible to obtain.]

And with that our first course was finished!

Next up: entrees. If you followed my PTR (don’t worry if you didn’t, I was the only one reading it for the first several weeks) then you know that our main course reservation was at one of my fave WDW restaurants- Homecomin(g).

We got all checked in outside and only had to wait a few minutes for the text telling us to go and check in inside. When we went inside and I told them who we are, the hostess looked at my funny, checked her computer, whispered mysteriously to her coworker then looked back to me and asked me to spell my name (honestly, I can’t remember exactly if she wanted me to spell my name or do some other identification thing but it was some simple way to prove that I was who I said I was).

“I’m really sorry about this, but that group just checked in under your name.”

hades what.gif

Uhhhh what?

Apparently a group of four came in right before we did (bypassing the outside check in stand). The hostess asked them if they were a party of 4 for Ann (hint: they were most definitely not) but I guess they said yes and they took them in and sat them. Instead of politely telling that party that they made a mistake (and that people shouldn’t LIE like LIARS) and they needed to wait for their table, they had us wait.

hades eye roll.gif

Honestly we weren’t super mad. We found it mostly funny, thanks in part to the fact that we had already eaten something. But if we were really hungry then I probably would have had words to say (angrily under my breath to Jon because I hate confrontation and I would never say something like that to anyone in person). Plus we only had to wait a few more minutes.

The server apologized profusely to us and later the manager (or some kind of person in management) also came by to apologize. Thankfully we’re all chill people so it really was fine.

Both couples got the fried chicken dinner to split, plus a side of mac and cheese (and I got an extra biscuit because Ann Doesn’t Share Bread). It was all amazing, as usual and we’re all very happy that we chose to split the meals because it’s SO much food.

Side note: fried chicken is my favorite food. Like my number one thing to eat. And Homecomin(g) is in my top 5 favorite fried chicken places that I’ve ever visited (and I tend to eat friend chicken everywhere I go). So if you like fried chicken and you’ve never been to Homecomin(g), then you gotta.

They came by when we were finished and pretty much offered us free dessert as a gesture for what happened with check in. And I had a MAJOR brain fart (can I say fart here? Is that too crude? If fart is too crude, please pretend I didn't just say fart four times) and said NO. Why Ann? Why??

My line of thinking was thus: we already had plans to go eat Sprinkles for dessert as the finale to our progressive dinner. I had been looking forward to specifically Sprinkles for months. PLUS we were already super stuffed and wanted to wait a little bit before eating dessert.

There were obvious flaws in my logic- the biggest being that I could have asked for dessert to go and we could all have saved it for the next day. But did I think of that? Nope. I was too caught up in the glory that is Sprinkles Cupcakes and I denied everyone the privilege of free hummingbird cake. And for that I am eternally sorry.

sad marie.gif

That being said, we paid our checks and decided to walk around a while before hitting up Sprinkles. We popped into World of Disney, where I once again avoided purchasing anything because now not only was Jon still giving me the look but P was giving A the look and it was just too many looks for me to handle. We also stopped and watched one of the bands they had doing a small show. They were playing some rad early-mid 2000s punk/alternative and it was fun to sit and sing along to The Middle at Disney World.

Finally we thought it was time for dessert! To Sprinkles!! I got the cupcake sundae with a strawberry cupcake and Captain Crunch ice cream, and Jon got the sundae but with a banana chocolate cupcake and cookie dough ice cream.

We should have shared.

I took about two bites but I was still way too full and couldn't eat any more. Jon finished his (remember how I said he has a remarkable stomach capacity for a skinny dude?) and tried to finish mine but after a few bites his spoon snapped in half and we took it as a sign that we were done eating for the day.

And with a snap of the spoon, we were done with our day!

Tune in next time to find out how we spend our first full day as a quartet.

The TR where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.

Whadaya mean they don't matter!?!?!?!

That’s right, the points are like waiting an hour before rope drop for Flight of Passage to avoid waiting an hour in line.

OMG... I've... never... thought of that....

But! For FOP... if you don't wait an hour for rope drop, then you're waiting 3 hours in line.

So there.

love to have my picture taken.

I am wondering if this puts you in the minority?

 Classic shot.

and is a crazy good musician.

What does he play?

He likes card tricks and making people laugh.

I like him already. :)

They were both CMs at the Magic Kingdom for a summer (which is where they fell in love- cue the awwwws).

awwwww...

So if I’ve sucked you in (or at least tickled your fancy),

Leave my fancy out of this!

even though it means being a little sleepy that first full day.

That's just Disney. Pretty normal.
If you don't come back from Disney exhausted... then you did it wrong.

snow in January? In the MIDWEST?

Who'd a thunk it!

plenty of time for everyone’s favorite travel activity- wasting time in an airport terminal.

And yet... on the way to Disney... I really don't mind.
At MCO coming back? Different story.

We watched Toy Story 3 on the way to Atlanta to get us excited to visit Toy Story Land. It was the first time I had watched it since it came out in theaters and I forgot how much it made me ugly cry.

Oh dear.

There aren’t quite words to describe the flight attendant’s look when she saw my blotchy red face as she handed me my complimentary in-flight beverage and pretzels.

Oh, no!

 you poor thing!

On this flight we watched the Taylor Swift Reputation Tour on Netflix and it blew my mind.

I know not what this is.
I am content with that.

I woke up at about 4am with the unfortunate and completely undeniable knowledge that I was about to get very, very sick.

Oh, no...

My instincts were correct and I ended up spending the rest of that night in the bath tub so I wouldn’t disturb Jon.

Oh, dear. Nice of you to let him sleep, mind you.

[I would like to point out that I am indeed wearing shorts in this photo. I know it appears otherwise.]

I would like to point out that, that doesn't look comfortable at all.

We let the front desk know to send housekeeping to our room in a full body suit

all I could think of was getting horizontal ASAP.

He had thought to pack our Apple TV, which meant we could hook it up to the TV and I could watch Netflix/Hulu/you name it right on the big screen. This made my day so much better!

Nice move, Jon. ::yes::

he liked that we were getting to relax on vacation for once.

eye-roll-gif.378104

[Apparently someone doesn’t appreciate my touring style]

:lmao:

I cannot believe you managed to go into Sephora for two minutes exactly and those two minutes spent only getting setting spray. It's near impossible for me to go in not spend at least 15 minutes in the store before either leaving or spending at least $20 on something I really don't need. I applaud your self-restraint (but you've also reminded me how I really need to use setting spray more often lmao).

What a fun idea for a progressive dinner! I've never even thought of doing that but it sounds so fun. I'll definitely do that except get three little things from the quick service areas... or just three sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich hehe Even though everything looks delish. I totes need to get on this Homecomin' craze one day, I hear nothing but positives.

Fun story about these shirts: I bought Jon’s last May when I went to WDW with my mom. I thought it was perfect because it was his favorite color and Mickey is playing guitar, which Jon plays. Fast forward to my birthday trip in October and I happen to see the matching Minnie shirt, which is not only my favorite color but also features Minnie playing the piano- which I play! I thought it was destiny and I made Jon match with me.

Super adorable, and I love the shirts too ::yes::

Side note- the Plaza is tiny. Like maybe the smallest TS I’ve seen on Disney property. But it makes me feel so old-timey, like I should be milling my own flour and finding a chaperone to escort me everywhere.

We love The Plaza. It's on our must-do list every trip :goodvibes

[We introduce- the splash selfie]

 You're not afraid your phone will get soaked??

When we got back to earth we went ahead and grabbed a spot for HEA, and we got a really good spot! I wanted to take the opportunity to try out my new camera with the fireworks and I think I got some okay shots. I definitely don’t have a great setup for fireworks photography but I like how much clearer they are than on my phone.

Stunning :love::worship:

Speaking of signs, our driver ignored every one of them. Sign pointing right toward the Animal Kingdom Lodge, she turned left. Sign saying this way for deliveries only? She went that way. Needless to say the control freak in me was incredibly happy to get out of that car.

:rotfl:

There was a PhotoPass photographer by one of my favorite Pandora spots (in front of the waterfall) and I thought it would be a great spot to get a photo of our Disneybound for the day:

Can you guess who we are? Here’s a hint: one of us is adopted.

Still have no idea :confused3 But I love your outfit and your sparkly skirt :thumbsup2

For apps we decided to split three- the deviled eggs, chips and guac, and of course the clothesline candied bacon.

[They are topped with potatoes. This is groundbreaking. I shan’t ever look at deviled egg again unless it comes adorned with crispy potato strings.]

I love the devalued eggs at Homecomin', but these look amazing! I wonder if they're better??

“I’m really sorry about this, but that group just checked in under your name.”

hades-what-gif.383666

Uhhhh what?

What?? So rude >:(

They came by when we were finished and pretty much offered us free dessert as a gesture for what happened with check in. And I had a MAJOR brain fart (can I say fart here? Is that too crude? If fart is too crude, please pretend I didn't just say fart four times) and said NO. Why Ann? Why??

I was too caught up in the glory that is Sprinkles Cupcakes and I denied everyone the privilege of free hummingbird cake. And for that I am eternally sorry.

Oh my! You passed up the AMAZING Hummingbird Cake  (for free!) ??

Even though it was a few minutes early, we went ahead and checked in for our reservation and were seated pretty quickly, and next to the window!
You got a perfect seat! I am taking DH to Sanaa this summer on our anniversary trip and I am SO excited for him to experience it!

Of course we started with the bread service:
It's just not possible to start with anything else!

We both agreed that Sanaa was an amazing meal and a fun way to try new foods that we weren’t used to eating (we aren’t really adventurous eaters at all. Pad Thai is exotic to me hahaha).
It is delicious. :)

I made FPs for us at AK that afternoon so we hopped on a bus and went over to the park (and wow I totally underestimated how close AKL is to DAK. The bus ride was like 5 minutes). But when we got there something was off. It took me a while to figure it out but after waiting in line for bag check it came to me. I was hearing Christmas music. On January 14th. At the Animal Kingdom.
Ok, that's just wrong.....I love Christmas but January 6th (12th night/Feast of the Epiphany) is limit for all things Christmas related.

I overhead the CM saying that this particular gorilla likes to take his towel blanket around with him everywhere and if that doesn’t tug at your heartstrings then I don’t know what will.
That's pretty cute!

There was a PhotoPass photographer by one of my favorite Pandora spots (in front of the waterfall) and I thought it would be a great spot to get a photo of our Disneybound for the day:
Great photo!

On our way out of the park we stopped for another PhotoPass because honestly I was just really feeling my skirt that day.
That skirt is gorgeous!

We ran to Basin to snag a Mickey bath bomb for my bath-obsessed friend back home who so very kindly takes care of our cat while we are away.
I always buy those bath bombs too and keep them in my closet for a little touch of Disney goodness......they are used sparingly here too!

And it was finally time for the meal that I quite possibly was looking forward to the most out of this whole trip- our progressive dinner at Disney Springs.
That looks like so much fun! We are going to try that on our trip this summer.

First up- apps and drinks at The Edison.
Looks great!

What is wrong with people???

Both couples got the fried chicken dinner to split, plus a side of mac and cheese (and I got an extra biscuit because Ann Doesn’t Share Bread). It was all amazing, as usual and we’re all very happy that we chose to split the meals because it’s SO much food.
That is a crazy amount of food!

It's because you had a plan and were focused on the plan......

I took about two bites but I was still way too full and couldn't eat any more. Jon finished his (remember how I said he has a remarkable stomach capacity for a skinny dude?) and tried to finish mine but after a few bites his spoon snapped in half and we took it as a sign that we were done eating for the day.
Wow! He does have remarkable stomach capacity!

For FOP... if you don't wait an hour for rope drop, then you're waiting 3 hours in line.
This is true! It's just funny to think that we're okay with waiting somewhere to avoid waiting somewhere else :P

What does he play?
Anything that makes noise, really! His main instrument is guitar, but he sings, plays bass/drums/piano/french horn/harmonica/the spoons/etc

awwwww...
You are a very good cue-taker.

Leave my fancy out of this!
Sorry! Sorry! Please apologize to your fancy for my abhorrent behavior.

Nice of you to let him sleep, mind you.
He told me later he could hear me all night so I'm not sure how much he actually slept...

I would like to point out that, that doesn't look comfortable at all.
I would like to point out that you are 100% correct in your observation.

It's near impossible for me to go in not spend at least 15 minutes in the store before either leaving or spending at least $20 on something I really don't need
I promise this is me 99.9% of the time. I have to go get another foundation later this week and I'm already prepared to spend at least an hour and at a minimum twice the money I thought I would spend.

but you've also reminded me how I really need to use setting spray more often lmao
It is amazing. Like truly amazing. I use the Younique spray because a friend of mine sells it and the stuff is legendary. I never have to retouch my makeup, even at the parks in the summer.

I'll definitely do that except get three little things from the quick service areas...
This is an excellent idea. The progressive dinner was awesome but holy dollars Batman it was expensive and so, so much food! QS would be much cheaper and a much more reasonable amount of food.

I totes need to get on this Homecomin' craze one day, I hear nothing but positives
I have a hard time eating anywhere else at DS because I just love it so much. I pretty much alternate between it and Raglan Road.

Super adorable, and I love the shirts too
Thank you! They were such an amazing find :D

You're not afraid your phone will get soaked??
Oh absolutely terrified but I've learned to master timing on the Splash drop (mostly to preserve my makeup/hair :rotfl:)

Thank you! I like how dark they are. It makes the fireworks contrast a little. Definitely excited to learn more and get better!

Still have no idea :confused3 But I love your outfit and your sparkly skirt
It's Thor & Loki! And don't worry- it was pretty subtle so it was hard to tell.

I wonder if they're better??
I've never had the ones at Homecomin! Jon doesn't eat eggs so I've never gotten them since I couldn't finish all of them and a whole fried chicken dinner. Now I need to go try them back to back and confirm which is the winner.

I'd like to think they were just confused or misheard but the cynic in me says they just straight up lied to get a table.

You passed up the AMAZING Hummingbird Cake
It's official. I've got to go back.
we have to go back.gif

You got a perfect seat! I am taking DH to Sanaa this summer on our anniversary trip and I am SO excited for him to experience it!
We really lucked out with our seat- I hope you two get a good one for your anniversary trip!

It's just not possible to start with anything else!
Right?? Honestly I would go there and get only this. It's so much food and it's so yummt.

I love Christmas but January 6th (12th night/Feast of the Epiphany) is limit for all things Christmas related.
Thank you!!

That skirt is gorgeous!
Thanks. It was a pain to make but it's just so sparkly and I love it.

.they are used sparingly here too!
I finally used mine after having it almost an entire year!

We are going to try that on our trip this summer.
Ah you'll love it- just pace yourself! We tried for too much food in too short a time.

That is a crazy amount of food!
Right?! I've eaten the whole dinner by myself before but I was also super hungry going into it.

It's because you had a plan and were focused on the plan
Maybe too focused?? :rotfl2:

He does have remarkable stomach capacity!
Right?! We've been married almost 6 years and I am still regularly astonished at how much food he can put away. And how he isn't 400 lbs by now.
