For the First Time in Forever...I went to WDW Solo. A January 2014 TR

Great trip report - very thorough! Sounds like you had a nice trip.

:welcome:

Thank you Barbara C! :D I love making these trip reports as I love to remember my trip and I agree, it was a very nice trip and I can't wait to return to WDW! :goofy:Stay tuned, as I plan to post about my day at the Animal Kingdom very soon. Be well Barbara C and thank you again for your kind words! :D

After a good night's sleep from my day at Epcot, I woke up at 6:00AM to get ready for Extra Magic Hours Morning at the Animal Kingdom. This would work to my advantage as I would be able to get a head start on the attractions that I wanted to visit and return to my hotel later in the afternoon for rest, as Animal Kingdom would take less time to tour than the Magic Kingdom or Epcot. Thankfully, this will be changing with the addition of Avatarland and Harambe Nights. After getting ready and eating breakfast, I was downstairs to get the 7:30AM EMH shuttle to the Animal Kingdom. After the 7:30AM shuttle came, I was the lone person to board and was at the Animal Kingdom by 7:50AM, ready to start my day. Compared to the past three days, the weather was slightly cooler, with morning temperatures at 50 and a high of 70. Wearing shorts, my legs felt a little brisk, but it was going to be a fun day! :D

After immersing myself in the realistic theming of Harambe, I sprinted like a gazelle to Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Lucky for me, there was no wait and I was on within five minutes. Here are some pictures from my safari:

Since I did not get all the pictures I wanted on my initial ride of Kilimanjaro Safaris, I decided to ride again. Unfortunately, I had a little trouble finding the entrance from the exit, but Scott, a CM, told me to use the Fastpass entrance even though I did not have a Fastpass. I was a bit hesitant as I did not want to break the rules, but he told me not to worry and gave me a line measuring lanyard. I got on with no wait and lucky for me, I got more pictures. Thank you for spreading the Disney magic Scott! :D :

Since it was a little after 9:00AM and I was in no rush, I decided to visit the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. As I started to make my way through this interesting exhibit, I found an Okapi skull, which would definitely catch my former (soon to be not as I am taking another class with her this Fall) Anthropology professor's eye and I decided to snap a picture:
1504452_10202704899640610_1383562720_o.jpg

I also saw a Duiker, which is a type of antelope.

My Anthropology professor would have also loved the Hippo skulls as well as the human and Gorilla skulls:

I then saw a breathtaking replica of Victoria Falls with Cichlids:
1531858_10202704901440655_1276207175_o.jpg

After checking out the Cichlids, I could not pass up the opportunity to check out the Meerkats (they're the same species as Timon in "The Lion King"). Even more exciting was the fact that Hillary, an Animal Trainer, was feeding them breakfast, which appeared to be some sort of mix of freshly cut vegetables:

:welcome:

Thank you cheekypoppins! I had a wonderful time and thanks to the low crowds, I was able to do a lot without rushing too much. Stay posted as I look forward to posting a lot more on my trip. Thank you! :D

It looks like you had such a great time! I went on my first solo trip earlier this year for my birthday after my buddies bailed and I ended up having the time of my life! Can't wait to read more! :thumbsup2

Before I left the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, I spotted a troop of magnificent Gorillas :D :

I decided to see It's Tough to be a Bug! next and on my way there, I spotted Kangaroos by The Tree of Life:
1399008_10202704975722512_424254527_o.jpg

After arriving at It's Tough to be a Bug!, I only had a five minute wait and I was excited to see this 3-D Flick (pun intended)! I enjoyed this show as I loved the use of Flick and Hopper from "A Bug's Life" to educate viewers on the importance of insects (I agree, insects are important (except for mosquitos of course!)). In addition, it was also funny to see the bugs perform their effects, like Eau-de-Claire, the stinkbug that sprayed its secretion into the audience. The only effect I didn't like was the stinging sensation of the bees, which hurt :( . Nevertheless, I enjoyed It's Tough to be a Bug! and it is definitely on my Animal Kingdom must see list.
Since I still had time until the next performance of Finding Nemo, I decided to check out Dinoland U.S.A., since I did not have the chance to go there on my last visit in 2012.
1498142_10202704977082546_1256783066_o.jpg

I thought Dinoland was a bit corny, but in a pleasant way that definitely suited the carnival theme of the land.

I decided to check out Primeval Whirl, which had only a 15-minute wait.
1507356_10202704982882691_613828448_o.jpg

On line,I met a mother visiting with her two children from the Minneapolis area. While we were waiting, we chatted about our lives and when I mentioned that I where I lived was not far from NYC, they were impressed with that fact as they wanted to visit NYC as they have never been. I told them NYC is impressive, but mentioned that I wanted to visit Minneapolis, as I have family in that area and of course, I want to see the Mall of America. Soon enough, I boarded Primeval Whirl with them and was ready for the ride. While Primeval Whirl is not up there with the best WDW attractions in my book, I thought it was pretty good, if not a bit sharp turning and illustrated the history of the dinosaurs in a cool and fun way. Since it was almost time to see Finding Nemo, I made my way to the Theater in the Wild and got an excellent seat in the center of the theater on the middle level.
1490731_10202704983082696_1587396220_o.jpg

At about a little after 10:00AM, the show started and immediately, I was impressed! The show was absolutely phenomenal, with its attention to detail, catchy songs, excellent acting, and amazing puppetry. Again, this show is definitely on my must-see list! The show ended about 40 minutes later and I was impressed. Unfortunately, after exiting the theater, I realized I left my digital camera in its bag behind. A cast member directed me to Laura, a warm CM who was in the back of theater and she had my camera :D . Thankfully, I averted a crisis and throughout my trip, I made sure to check even further to make sure I had my stuff.
With that crisis averted, I made my way to Asia, as I wanted to ride Expedition Everest.

At Expedition Everest, the standby wait was only about 35 minutes, but since I was by myself, I used the Singles Line and got on in less than five minutes. I love this ride as I find it exhilarating and on the thrill level between say, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain. The theme, revolving around the Himalayas, was excellent and the views, when you can see them, are amazing! Since the Singles Line was still open and would soon be closing due to low crowds, I got another ride on Expedition Everest! :D
After riding Expedition Everest, I was feeling a little hungry, so I decided to get lunch. On my way to Discovery Island, I saw some orangutans swinging around and a currency chart:

Since I can't eat French Fries with my lunch due to the fact that they are fried, I heard about the new Gardens Kiosk, which is Allergy Friendly for some Lundberg Rice Chips, which would give me a starch with my lunch and are very low in saturated fat. The female cast member from Fort Lauderdale, FL, was very friendly and we even chatted about South Florida, as I know the area well due to both sets of my grandparents living there for quite some time. After purchasing my rice chips, I made my way to the Flame Tree BBQ, which is one of my favorite counter service restaurants.
1597050_10202704984442730_188150528_o.jpg

I did not wait too long and a very friendly and accommodating young cast member took my order. I ordered a 1/2 BBQ Chicken Platter and a Diet Coke. However, I needed to substitute the Baked Beans, which contained pork and the Cole Slaw, which contained mayonnaise for other sides. The cast member got out her ingredient book and showed me the sides offered, which included many fruits and decided on orange and pineapple. A little later, my lunch was ready and I was ready to dig in. My lunch was excellent, with juicy, tender, and smokey BBQ chicken, a tangy orange, and a sweet and sour pineapple. The rice chips were crisp and had a pleasant hint of lime :D .
1540297_10202704984562733_840705014_o.jpg

While I was eating, an engaging band was playing, with songs like "Say Hey (I love you)" by Michael Franti and Spearhead, which added a festive air to my lunch.
1553057_10202704984522732_1549135393_o.jpg

Next, I went to meet Dug and Russell from "Up" and waited about 15 minutes. After Dug and Russell took a much needed break, I had a ball meeting them and found them to be very playful and energetic. Dug even played with his dog toy, which was pretty cool! :D

I then went to meet Pocahontas, who was a bit hard to find as her queue was a bit hidden. Thankfully, I found it and waited a mere 15 minutes. She was beautiful and very personable. She asked me where I was from and I told her I was from New York. She asked if I was from "The Big Apple" and I said yes. She mentioned that Meeko, her raccoon, loves apples, especially the red ones. I also asked her if she could paint with the colors of the wind (I know) and she happily said yes.
1523820_10202704988242825_478732577_o.jpg

After meeting Pocahontas, I made my way out of the Animal Kingdom as I was done for the day and the parade was not on. I meandered through the Oasis and I made the 2:00PM shuttle back to my hotel. At about 2:20PM, I arrived back at the Hilton for a little rest and relaxation.

It looks like you had such a great time! I went on my first solo trip earlier this year for my birthday after my buddies bailed and I ended up having the time of my life! Can't wait to read more! :thumbsup2

Hahah cheekypoppins I know what you mean :) . That sounded just like Dug "Squirrel" :rotfl2:! I could not agree more, the Finding Nemo show is excellent. Thank you for checking out my trip report and stay tuned for more updates cheekypoppins :D .

After arriving back from the Animal Kingdom at about twenty after two, I decided to take it easy after my morning at the Animal Kingdom. I apologize for a lack of pictures in this section, as there was nothing I really wanted to take pictures of (I would be doing more Downtown Disney on Friday night due to my ADR at Fulton's). I had wanted to go to the pool, but before I opted to get ready, I noticed that the message light on my room phone was flashing. Hmm...who could that be? Usually, people call me on my cellphone as the hotel phone costs money. I checked my two messages and found out that the souvenirs I got at Epcot were waiting at the Concierge and an envelope was waiting at the Front Desk (who could have sent me something?). I went downstairs to the Front Desk to pick up my envelope and then to the Concierge to pick up my souvenirs. I was anxious to open the envelope and to my delight, Kenny and Victoria, whom I had met when I went to Epcot the day before had left me their unused free movie rental card as well as vouchers for a free small Starbucks coffee or a bottled water from the mini market. They also left a letter telling me they had to leave, but they wished me the best and that they enjoyed meeting me. Since Kenny and Victoria were not at the hotel and I was unable to contact them to thank them, I decided the best way to thank them would be to spread a little Disney magic later in my trip. I then went to the pool to check the weather and while it was warm, it was overcast and a bit windy. Since I didn't go swimming, I decided to rent a movie and I saw that they had "Wreck-it Ralph" available, which I didn't have a chance to see. I rented it and then went back up to my room. While I had planned to watch "Wreck-it Ralph," but after trying quite a few times with no success, I was unable to get the DVD player to work :( . Oh well, it was 4:00PM and my eyes were growing heavy and my sight was growing dim. I decided to set my iPhone's alarm to 5:30PM and I took a much needed nap.

Ninety minutes after a much needed nap, I was hungry, so I decided to order a light dinner from Flippers as it got good reviews from other DISers and on Yelp. I was still satisfied from my lunch at Flame Tree, so I ordered a MyPie (a small personal pie) with Extra Cheese and Mushrooms along with a Caprese Salad. When I called, I found the person on the phone to be friendly and efficient. The person instructed me to meet my delivery driver by the shuttle pickup area and that he would be there in 45 minutes. During those 45 minutes, I went ony my iPad for a bit to check my email and DISboafds briefly. About 40 minutes later after I called for my dinner, my driver called me to tell me that he would be there in five minutes. On my way down, I took a picture of the Downtown Disney view from the 9th Floor and downstairs, I went to the DVD kiosk to return "Wreck-it Ralph," as I never watched it.
1502369_10202704989602859_922331727_o.jpg

My delivery driver called to let me know he had arrived and I met him in the parking lot next to the shuttle area. Once I met the driver, he was very friendly and efficient. My meal came out to about $20 in change and after I took care of paying for it, I went back to my room.

I then opened my dinner, which looked delicious and added a Diet A&W and a piece of gluten free bread (not pictured) to accompany my dinner. The dinner I ordered looked well presented and filling.
1502235_10202704989562858_1825645710_o.jpg

I was looking forward to digging in and I was very satisfied. Since I don't eat the crust on the pizza due to gluten and egg allergies (I have been doing this for years don't worry :) ) There was a generous portion of cheese on the pizza with a nice texture and a pleasant saltiness. The pizza sauce struck a good balance between salty and sweet. I then tried the Caprese platter, which had 2-3 slices of mild and soft mozzarella and ripe and sweet tomatoes chopped up like a bruschetta. A bed of arugula with a mild bite complemented the Caprese Platter. Overall, I would definitely order from Flippers again as the food was very good and the service was excellent, making it a great choice when you don't feel like leaving your room for dinner :) .
After dinner, I decided to go to Downtown Disney at 7:30PM. Even early in the evening, Downtown Disney was bustling and it was a perfect night to be there, as the weather was mild. I checked out all of the stores, but World of Disney was where I wanted to put most of my focus. On my way into World of Disney, Nate, a CM in front of World of Disney asked me if I was celebrating anything? I told him that this was my first solo trip, so Nate got out his sharpie and gave me a celebration pin with "First solo trip" written on it. Nate made my evening even more magical and I was excited to see what they had in World of Disney. I first checked out the clothing and found two t-shirts that caught my eye. The first t-shirt featured the Genie from "Aladdin" coming out of his lamp with "I am here...What are your other two wishes?" written on the top and bottom and a funny t-shirt with Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast" flexing his muscles and "Relationship Status: Single" written on the t-shirt. I added these two t-shirts to my purchases and went to look at plushes. Immediately, a small plush Minnie dressed like Belle and a small plush Sorcerer Mickey caught my eye and I knew my mom would love those. I took pictures of those two plushes on my phone, texted them to my mom, and she approved! A friendly CM from Latin America rang up my purchases, arranged to have them sent to my hotel, and I was on my way!
Next, I went to the Babycakes bakery in the now closed Pollo Campero. In case anyone was wondering, Babycakes stocks various gluten free/egg free/dairy free and more allergy baked goods, which is awesome for those people who have food allergies. At the bakery, I purchased a chocolate cupcake, cornbread, and a vanilla donut. While I did not try the baked goods until later, when I finally did try them back in my room, I found all of the baked goods to be delicious, ranging from a creamy chocolate cupcake, crumbly cornbread, and a fluffy vanilla donut. While it is a shame that the standalone Babycakes in Downtown Disney closed, I am glad that Disney is still supplying their baked goods as it is a wonderful treat for people like myself who have food allergies.
After I purchased my goods at Babycakes, I danced for a little bit by the Marketplace stage as they were playing some fun music, like Michael Jackson and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Since it was about 9:30PM, I decided to head back to my room. Before this happened, my lady friend texted me as she wanted to know about my day and I happily went through it with her. As I was walking, my best friend Jon called me. He wanted to know all about my trip, so I was happy to tell him (I put him on hold briefly as I was crossing Buena Vista Drive to get back to the Hilton). He was very happy to hear about my trip and wished he could have been there. Back at home, he told me that he just got back from his brother's induction ceremony into the National Honor Society, which was held at Chateau Briand in Carle Place, NY. He said that it was very nice and he saw old teachers we both knew from high school. They served dinner as well and he had a steak, but he said he expected a little better from a ritzy catering hall. Ahh what are you going to do? Since we both had to get ready for the next day (he had to take his mom to the doctor), we got off the phone at 10:15PM and he wished me a great rest of my trip! After I got off the phone, I tried my baked goods from. Babycakes and got ready for bed, excited for my upcoming day at Hollywood Studios!

okay It's official I don't want to wait anymore LOL my trip is not until December and i seriously need a Disney cupcake STAT :rotfl2:

I woke up at 6:30AM, excited to start my day at Hollywood Studios. After waking, I completed my usual morning routine of getting ready and eating breakfast. Since the weather was going to be cooler, with a high temperature of about 60s and evening temperatures down to the high 30s/low 40s, I decided to ditch the shorts for track pants and wore my long sleeved shirt and Northface vest. By 7:45AM, I was ready, with my belongings gathered and I went downstairs to catch the shuttle to Hollywood Studios. At 8:00AM, the shuttle arrived and I was ready to go!

After the shuttle stopped at the Doubletree, I met two middle-aged sisters, who were traveling along with one of the daughters of the sister. The daughter was six and she was excited for her time at the Studios. Along the way, we talked about our lives and exchanged touring information. If I remember correctly, one of the sisters was a teacher and they were both from the Philadelphia area. For their day at the studios, I remember that they were planning to ride Toy Story Mania, meet characters, see Beauty and the Beast, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and Playhouse Disney Live. They were staying in Orlando for Martin Luther King Day weekend and they were planning to visit the Magic Kingdom for two days as well as Islands of Adventure. The sisters added that another family member would be flying down that evening with her daughter from Virginia if I am not mistaken. They mentioned that they did not make arrangements for ground transportation, so I recommended that they use Tiffany Town Car due to the excellent experience I had with them. They were impressed and immediately texted their family member, who in turn booked a car to pick them up at MCO. It ended up my recommendation worked, as the sisters saw me the next day and thanked me, saying that their family member loved using Tiffany Town Car! By about 8:40AM, I arrived at Hollywood Studios, excited to start the day!

As soon as I got to the gates, I got through security, where a friendly older male security officer got me through safely and efficiently. In addition, he teased me about my Yankees drawstring bag, as he was not a Yankees fan (to each his or own). It was all in good spirit of course and I made my way to Toy Story Mania, so I could avoid long lines later.

According to the Fastpass return sign, I arrived at Toy Story Mania at 8:53AM, where I waited a mere 10 minutes in the standby line.

I happened to love Toy Story Mania, as I enjoyed how the ride is combined with the special effects that allow you to play carnival games in CGI with your Toy Story pals :D . I ended up scoring 50,000 points, which was better than my score in 2012, but still not great. Since this ride was so addictive and the wait was only 20 minutes, I decided what the heck and lined up to go on again. About twenty minutes later, I was enjoying Toy Story Mania and ended up improving my score by 20,000 points to 70,000, which was not bad!
After riding Toy Story Mania, I could not pass up the chance to meet Buzz and Woody, so I lined up as the line was not too long. About twenty-five minutes later, I met Buzz and Woody, who were very playful and happy to see me. To their delight, I mentioned that Buzz was my favorite space ranger and that Woody was my favorite deputy :D .

Outside, I also saw a Green Army Man, who was in high spirits and very patriotic!

It was almost 10:00AM, so I made way to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which is one of my favorite rides. The standby wait was 45 minutes, which would be my longest wait of the trip (excluding the Anna and Elsa meet and greet at Epcot).

While waiting in line, I made friends with a family of three from Worcester, MA, whose elder son was a student at Tisch at NYU. I was immediately impressed and we had a good time talking about our lives as well as our respective locales, including the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed my visits to Massachusetts in Boston and Mattapoisett (which is 40 miles west of Cape Cod). Soon enough, we boarded the elevator and I recall sitting on the left side of the elevator in the rear. I was exhilarated after riding this ride due to the excellent special effects of a 1930s hotel and the four drops we made! After riding, I visited the gift shop, where I found a red t-shirt with Mickey looking into an elevator shaft saying that he should have taken the stairs. A friendly Indian female cast member from Orlando took care of my purchase and packed it for shipping to my hotel. As I was making my purchase, the lady asked where I was from and I told her I was from Westbury, NY on Long Island. She immediately knew where I was from as Hicksville, a town with a large Indian population, is located right to the east of Westbury. She also knew Westbury as her soon goes to Hofstra University, which is located ten minutes southwest of my home. After our wonderful conversation, I checked the time and saw it was about 11:00AM, so I decided to see Beauty and the Beast, as there would be a show in a little bit.

As a fan of Beauty and the Beast, I definitely enjoyed the breezy version of this adaptation to the film. The singing and acting were excellent and the scenery went very well with the show. One difference from the film that I noticed was that the order was a hair different, as "Gaston" was performed in the middle of the introduction to Belle's life in her provincial town, as opposed to when he is conspiring in his tavern. Overall, I would definitely recommend seeing Beauty and the Beast if you are at the Studios as it is an excellent show!

It was a little after 11:30AM and I was feeling hungry, so I decided to try Fairfax Fare, as the menu was appealing and the smell of barbecued meats called to my nose. After not too long of a wait, I decided to try the Smoked 1/2 Chicken and a Diet Coke and a friendly and accommodating female cast member took my order. Since I was unable to eat the sides due to my egg and wheat allergies as well as my avoidance of saturated fats, the cast member and her manager consulted the ingredient book, looking for safe sides to go with my chicken. Thanks to their hard work, I ended up getting baby carrots and Mickey Applesauce for my sides, making for a healthy lunch.

On the whole, I was quite satisfied with my lunch. The portion size was good and the chicken, while not as good as Flame Tree, was tender, juicy, and had a pleasantly smokey flavor. In addition, the Mickey Applesauce was well balanced, with sweet and tart flavors and a smooth textures. The baby carrots were fresh and crisp as well. Satisfied after a filling lunch, I proceeded to do more touring.

Before I continued my touring, I used the restroom and was stopped in my tracks by a beautiful vintage Cadillac. Who knows, maybe I will just add it to my garage haha :) .

On my way towards the Sorcerer's Hat, I caught a performance of the Streetmosphere characters, who added a whimsical feel of old Hollywood.

After seeing the Streetmosphere characters, I noticed that Chip and Dale were meeting and had a very short line. I waited less than five minutes and I found them to be very cheerful! It was an excellent interaction and I was lucky to have met them with such a short wait.

After meeting Chip and Dale, I went to Muppet Vision 3-D, but not without passing Star Tours and getting a Fastpass. While it was not necessary, a spot was available for 2:30PM, which was about the time I wanted to ride and I would be able to ride in case a wait formed. Not unlike my second day in the Magic Kingdom, I found a stray MYW ticket near Star Wars and brought it to The Writers Stop, where a thankful cast member took the ticket for safe keeping. Finally I arrived at Muppet Vision 3-D and waited about ten minutes for the next showing.

While I know there are some people who say Muppet Vision is a little dated, I happen to like it as I think that the Muppets are cool and that this is a classic attraction. I love how the Muppets characters experiment with the 3-D technology by throwing pies and squirting the audience with a flower. Also, how could you not love the animatronic Statler and Waldorf heckling the show? All in all, this is an attraction that I definitely enjoy!

Next, it was time to ride Star Tours, where I walked on with no wait. While I may not be the world's biggest Star Wars fan, I ended up loving this attraction.

I loved the motion of the simulator, riding with classic Star Wars characters, and fighting off villains like Darth Vader and Hans Solo. On my next trip, I would definitely ride this attraction again!

After Star Tours, I wanted to meet Mike and Sully from "Monsters Inc" and then catch a performance of Mulch, Sweat, and Shears, as the Unofficial Guide gave them an excellent write-up. Along the way, I toured the Streets of America:
