Well I have addictive tendencies (I smoked avidly until I had a stroke; oops) but I doubt I’ll ever understand the mindset of gambling money. I worked too hard to give it away. View attachment 803145

Do you say that about anything you don’t find value in or just gambling?

For example, I feel like I worked too hard to give my money away to watch a romantic movie, but I at least can understand the mindset of someone who finds entertainment value in it.

I gamble - it's what I would consider entertainment with the added bonus of making money . I get free rooms at the casinos nearest me because I signed up for their reward programs and visit monthly. I have gone and lost all the money I brought to gamble and gone and won $13,000 in the second machine I played. I never bring more than I want to lose for entertainment and leave my debit card at home in case I'm tempted by the ATM lol. I've used my comps to spend girls weekends at the pools, go to concerts, get free gifts, and eat for free in their restaurants. Just like anything else it can be abused but it is essentially another form of entertainment. I just feel like the chance of hitting something big makes it more exciting than a night out or expensive steakhouse - but of course everyone is different and entitled to their idea of fun!

Most are just nonsense and seem like people who have ZERO knowledge of probability/statistics. Some think turning up the volume setting on a machine will make you more likely to win. Or bouncing around between bet sizes. Such nonsense. I think they must delete most of the negative remarks since you rarely see any.

Many seem very good at saying nothing and making it sound like some kind of secret scheme/method they have 'figured' out. Things like.............Walk around the casino looking at all the machines or make sure you know if they are VLT or regular slot machines............ummm who cares? A given casino will only have the type of machine the local gaming laws allow so it isn't like you get to choose which version to play. Walk around looking for what exactly? Someone who claims to be a former casino employee/technician likely also has no special inside information on how to win.

If I had really figured out how to consistently win @ slots, why would I want to share that information with random strangers?

We like to go to the casino on Sundays and place some bets on the NFL games. We usually have breakfast or lunch in the sports bar. Sometimes I'll get a mimosa or a beer nothing too crazy. It's a fun way to watch the games.

Never been a gambler mainly because of the simple fact I no NOTHING about cards.. in college I failed a probability test as all the questions referred to a deck of cards.. Odds of getting this card if .....I spoke with the prof aftewards and said *** . how can a person asnwer this questions if I dont even know the difference between a Queen and a number card

I used to participate in a slot players forum. There were a number of wonderful people on that forum. But to your point, the people that believed they had figured out some sort of trick to making their chances better than others that was actually nonsense was just too much for me.

I remember on one trip to the casino there was a lady sitting at the slot machine next to the one where I was playing. Before every spin, she would take Rosary beads and touch them to the screen in a cross shape. You always see people with rituals like that.

I've had several casino trips planned this year, but never got to the casino. Why? I needed my money for more important stuff. Hopefully, I'll get there in 2024.

I'll typically buy a $20 lottery ticket when the Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is above $1B, but that's about it. My wife likes Blackjack and likes to play at "casino night" networking events and such, but it's not real money.

Often they bet in ever increasing figures. Occasionally their number will come up and it's all fine and dandy, but more often than not, it's just chasing debts...

Very timely for me that this thread had been resurrected. I'm finally going to get to the casino this month. We got a rewards mailing, my aunt and I. $30 Freeplay. When you play with house money they always get it back one way or another, but it has lured us, so we're going to make a trip next week. I squirreled away a hundred bucks out of my budget for this trip, which I can play on for hours and hours. I only play penny slots, never bet more than 80 cents a pop.

Well even the 'penny' slot minimums have gone up. Depending on which casino and if you haven't been there in awhile, you might be surprised how much each spin now costs. I can recall being in Vegas a number of years ago and you could play nickel slots for a min of $.05-.10 per spin. Back then, they paid out the coins before the days of those paper tickets. There was no such thing as a 'penny' slot since paying out in pennies wouldn't be practical and the attendants would have to constantly be refilling the machines. They also have quarter slots where the min bet was $.25. I think all of those are long gone. Local casinos I have been to now typically have a min bet of $.88 so your money won't last nearly as long as in the past.

I doubt there is any casino where you can play for 'hours and hours' on $100.

Rivers (formerly Sugarhouse) in Philly. We typically show up at ten a.m. and leave around three p.m. My hundred dollars usually lasts the entire time. *shrug* you don't have to believe me, but that's been my experience at that place.
