Have you/would you do a Go Fund Me

I wouldn’t start one for myself. I have donated to some GFM and Kickstarter campaigns.

They were for a business venture (a toy), an indie movie, an impoverished foreign student coming to study engineering at MIT or somewhere equally wonderful- some local students set it up to help pay some of his costs. That one was neat because he would send updates about his journey and settling into school.

Things I’ve given to were causes I believed in and items I would use.

A more recent trend that is more common and not as welcome is the FB charities thing where your friends set up a donation drive for their BD or other event. The idea behind it - encouraging people to give, and people you know/don’t know so well giving thought to animal shelters in some distant land is really kind, but I am over it already.

I have not set up one personally but my police department had one through our Police Officers Association to cover funeral expenses for a coworker who lost her husband unexpectedly NYE to a drunk driver.

That's actually a really good question. I want to say Red Deer falls into the South region but I'd need to research it to know for sure. I don't know anybody that lives in central Alberta or I'd ask them.

Being in Central Alberta i had no idea of the region restrictions as we have experienced treatment in Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton - where ever our family doctor referred us to for specialty care. For my dads open heart surgery he was asked if he preferred a Calgary or Edmonton Specialist, he went with Calgary because we are closer to Calgary then Edmonton. For my Grandma we choose Edmonton as liked the specialist there more for her surgery.

At least the Flames (89) and Oilers (90) won more recently than my Flyers (75). And it's all because the Flyers insisted on playing Kate Smith. :furious::D

HAHAHA. Well we played Kate Smith the last time we won. Yeah but you haven't won in 40 years playing her. SHE'S STILL LUCKY!!!!! WE'RE DUE!!!!

I've thought about doing for latest book I am writing.
It would help as I could get professional editing and cover artwork.
But it seems hard to do successfully and could not really see why anyone would want to buy my books before I write them, when nobody want to buy them after their completion.
Friends and myself almost did one for a video series we were trying to film but we never put it up.

I would help a family member if I knew they really needed it. I would also help things like if someone needed help because of a real need.

BUT what I hate is for the extra stuff. Like some people said about pets. Did you not know how much it costs to own a pet?
And don't get me started on honeymoons and vacations!!!! They are a luxury not a need. I have plenty of friends and family who went on a honeymoon for a weekend to somewhere they could drive to. When they could afford they took a honeymoon. Why should anyone pay for someone else's vacation???

Self absorbed entitled people.
Ok rant over. Haha

It's my perception (maybe I'm wrong) that for-profit health care results in far more convenient and immediate access than is available to a large portion of our population. So many of us have to travel hundreds of miles (at our own expense) for services and at that generally have no choice between providers. As I said upthread, I totally believe we all need understanding, compassion and support from one another. Bless you for your efforts. :flower3:
I had another friend fly to Ontario from BC for some type of eye surgery, he could have it in Ontario in a matter of weeks or wait a few months for a spot in BC. The surgery itself was covered through inter-province agreement, but they paid for the flight and hotel on their own. They stayed a few more days and made a holiday out of it.
