Ooh, this is fun!
This year we did 'Once on this Island' which was the most incredible experience I've ever had onstage. The first rehersal, we drew our island, and all the aspects of it, and we decided that we were going to be a Tribe, not a cast. Then we named the tribe Kuatu-Animus, which loosely translates to Tribe of the Collected Spirit. And we made a banner that said Kuatu-Animus on it, and we all traced our hands on it. It was just ten weeks of pure, unconditional love and support for one another. One girl actually tore her ACL in rehersal, and she was still in the show, singing in the wings and coming on for non-dancing numbers like Human Heart. It was just the most incredible show I have ever had the privellege to be a part of. The cast was also half seniors, so the last show was really emotional. And this past week, we found out that we were nominated for ten TAMY awards, which are this area's version of the Tony's, except for high school productions. The ceremony is in a week. I'm so so excited.
Last year we did 'Bye, Bye Birdie' which was also great. So much fun to be in.
Right now though, we're about to go into tech week for a show called Heart and Music, which is a benefit show for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. It's a non-auditioned show, so anyone who wanted in just showed up to rehersals and was cast. It's a show comprised pretty much of medleys of songs from different Broadway shows. We're doing songs from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and In The Heights, as well as two different Disney Medleys, which have Circle of Life, We're All In This Together, Step In Time, Be Our Guest, My Strongest Suit, Hakuna Matata, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and Trashin' the Camp. It's a lot of fun, and for such a great cause. Yeah, I'm excited.
We find out next year's season on June 3rd, as well as hold our elections for CenterStage Board, which is the head of the drama program, pretty much. I'm running for Vice President.
I have NO idea what the show's gonna be. All I know is that it will probably be something on the more classic side, because our director usually switches off classic-modern-classic-modern, and 'Island' was more modern and 'Birdie' was classic. I'm pulling for Les Miz, but that probably won't happen.
We're losing a HUGE chunk of talent with the senior class this year, and I've heard that the incoming freshman are not so great. So I'm concerned about numbers, pretty much.
