OH YAY!!! THIS THREAD IS ALIVE!!!! :cool1:

Last year I made sugar scrubs. SO EASY and everyone LOVED THEM!!!

Equal parts White Sugar and Oil (I used light olive oil)
Couple drops of Orange Oil (found at my local grocery)

I filled up jelly size mason jars half way with sugar (nope, no measuring!) and poured in enough oil to lightly cover the top of the sugar. Then, dropped a couple drops of oil in, mixed it all around, and put the lid on, and tied a cute ribbon around it.

I ALSO made rice bags. These bags you can put in the freezer for a cold pack, or microwave for a hot pack. There are specific directions online, but I like to wing it HAHA.

Sew up a little bag (keep the top open), whatever size you want. Fill 1/2 way with white rice and drop in a few drops of lavender essential oil. Sew up the top of the bag and TA-DA! You're done!

Just as an FYI, this link doesn't work, but I am interested to see what they look like.

I wanted to see it, too, so I did some searching. See if this link works:

BTW, this is a really neat blog, I'm going to be spending alot of time reading through there.

love the elm street blog! tfs! maggie

So glad you guys got it to work. I have a little fella to chase around the house and didn't check back in to see what had happened. Glad you guys enjoy it. I follow about 30 DIY blogs. Ill continue posting as I find new, cute stuff!

I plan on starting this project tomorrow. Got a long piece of board/wood that is perfect for this at hobby lobby for 5.99. Will make 2 signs, easily. The pens were at hobby lobby for 2.99 (but have 30% off right now). A little Mod Podge (which you can use along with the pens for further crafts) and some paint and sounds like a cheap, easy gift (or house project-- which mine will be). If anyone else makes one let me know how it turns out!

Glad you guys like the blog. Can't take credit for the work, I just read it :)

These are a BIG hit, especially with my mother and MIL. I do different variations each year, but here are some pics (from Google) to give you a general idea:

Candy canes you can almost always get for a song ... I usually buy the "classic" red and white striped peppermint canes.

Dollar stores (and sometimes even Walmart) are great places for finding inexpensive glass vases.
With most of the vases, I have used coffee cans (aluminum) to serve as the vase.

You can also do the vase within a vase idea. The clear, "outside" vase can hold peppermint candies, red and green jelly beans, Christmas-colored Hershey's Kisses, Christmas-colored M&M's, etc.

The vase within a vase idea is also great for a Halloween and/or Thanksgiving gift ... Use candy corn in the "outside" vase. At Easter time, jelly beans or the pastel/Easter-colored Hershey's Kisses and M&M's work.

So glad this thread is up again!!!:cheer2: I book-marked it but had my computer cleaned and they erased the link!

Sorry I haven't made it through the whole thread yet so I am sorry if this has been said but I wanted to post this. I got free photo calendars, photo flip books, mousepads, tote bags, journals, and coffee cups here! You just pay shipping (I got 4 of the above for about $6 shipping, so not too bad!). Really a great deal and helped me out with my Christmas gifts, it's VistaPrint

I was just thinking of this thread the other day. I want to get started early this year. Last year I used a few of the ideas from this thread. I made hot plates out of ceramic tiles and put my kids hand prints on them using acrylic paint and covered the bottoms with adhesive cork. I also made dry erase boards. Using cardstock, scrapbook stickers and letters I created a "board" I liked then had it laminated and attached a pen (I actually found wet erase worked best) using velcro to the side. These were a huge hit.

After reading through some of the ideas again and seeing one about decorating plates with glass paint I have decided on this years project. I am actually going to decoupage the back side of glass plates so you can see the images through them. I'll then bake cookies or something to put on them. For the family members I am going to have each of my girls draw a picture that will be the center part of my decoupage plate. I'm thrilled with my idea, I hope they turn out well!:cutie:

That is a great idea! I think I will do this with pictures from Christmas' past and send them to relatives. :santa:

Those candy cane vases are adorable!! I've already started my no sew throws for this year. It's never too early for me.
