Adopt, don't shop. There are so many dogs and puppies who need a loving home, so please consider that option. We've always had rescues and we've never regretted any of them, all have been the joy of our lives.

If people took more care in choosing the right dog for there would not be all these rescue dogs
How big will it get, does it shed, is it socialized with people and other dogs, will it require grooming, does it need extensive exercise, is it a barker or a runner.

Behavior is very predictable based on the breed, do your research. Good luck finding a shih tzu in a rescue because they make great pets.
