How do you feel about wearing a mask at Disney parks?

How do you feel about wearing a mask while at a Disney Park?

  • If wearing a mask means the parks can open sooner, I'll wear one. I just want to be able to go!

  • Wearing masks would detract from the Disney experience I love so much! I won't go if I have to mask

For the people referencing Hong Kong and Shanghai weather compared to Orlando, I'd be curious what the humidity is like? I am a lifelong Floridian and I love the heat, but the humidity even gets to me sometimes. Also, I looked up a Hong Kong summer weather chart. Said average temp was around 85. Florida is generally more like mid to high 90s. That's a big difference. It is 78 degrees here now and I need a sweater outside (Yes, I am very cold-natured). But at 95, it would be tank top and shorts. Disney can obviously implement whatever rules they want and I can choose or not choose to go, but I cannot believe it is feasible to wear a mask outdoors in Florida in the summer.

My kids will be resuming their extra curricular activities within the next two weeks. One does cheer and will be required to wear a mask. The other does little league and as of right now will not be required. I think by the time we head to Disney late this summer they will be used to it or all this mask talk will be over. We live in the south and are pretty used to the heat, the masks shouldn’t be too bad for us.

Why would Disney require masks if they are not state-mandated? Well, probably to minimize lawsuits as well as to maintain the public perception (which has been frequently cited here) that Disney is a safe place. If we (2 adults) had planned a trip this summer or fall I would be looking to cancel. I wear a mask while at the grocery store, in a region of the country where less than half the people are doing so, but I would not enjoy a trip to the parks with a mask. Part of the pleasure of the trip is strolling with a drink or an ice cream; that doesn't work with a mask. A Disney trip is more than just the parks, too; will all the pools and water parks be closed because you can't physically distance or wear a mask in the water? Evening entertainment options? No, I'll pass.

Shanghai was easy to implement this rule due to the culture already used to wearing masks. The children are used to it and adults have learned proper technique handling masks. Right now we have a mask shortage so most people are wearing thick cloth masks that were homemade. (Heavy and hot)

Alot if factors can change in time. People will learn kids will learn but the biggest issue I see is Americans will not want to learn and fight back. So don't blame the children or that you will touch things and not use it properly.. that's on all of us to learn and adapt. Most will not and God forbid we get something even worse in the future. We again won't be able to adapt.

Masks have been a challenge for me. I have TMJD and wear an N95 to the grocery store but 20 mins in, my jaw joints really start aching. No way can I wear that all day! Would send me into a major TMJD flare up! So for the shift I take delivering for a local restaurant, I've been experimenting with all different types of homemade masks. The first one I made, my DD19 said "You look like you're wearing a diaper on your face!" LOL I feel like Goldilocks... "This one is too hot" "This one is too tight" "This one is too loose" and "This one is too difficult to take off and on"

So far the easiest to make, to take off and on and the coolest and most comfortable for me has been the one made from the heel portion of a men's cotton crew sock. The fact that it naturally curves under my chin and hugs my face w/o putting pressure on my face is the best part. There are several how-to's on youtube.
ETA: I use the mask with an "ear saver" attachment--- a short piece of elastic with 2 buttons sewn on either end. I loop the mask loops around the buttons, not around my ears. I wear a pony tail all the time, so I just place the ear saver under my hairband and it stays in place when I have to remover the mask for a bit.

We've been wearing masks now in NJ for several weeks and I'm surprised at how I HAVE gotten used to it!
When I think of past trips to WDW I've adjusted to various changes. Started going as a 20 something newlywed. Then one baby after another came. That brought strollers, diaper bags, fussy babies/toddlers, feeding them in restaurants, trying to get them to take naps while in the park. Gosh, I adapted to all that. Then 9/11 came and all the changes to entrance security came and we got used to that. Then we made a few trips with my senior mom and pushed her in a wheelchair. That was an adjustment and we got used to that. Now I'm in my 50s and I have aches and pains (didn't have them before!) and I still go to WDW, having gotten used to that. So yes! I really think wearing a mask and social distancing is something I can "get used to" especially since this will probably only affect this one vacation.

I am all for mask wearing, we have an August trip, and will be there with them on! We may even schedule an additional trip before August if they are definitely required in the parks.

This.

I personally feel more at risk of getting sick while wearing a mask

You are. The mask is to protect other people from you. Masks actually hold onto bacteria and elements. So, if you touch your mask and then your face you're more at risk.

My DH and I wore masks to the casino. It made the smoke unbearable. Others said the same. It some how felt extremely unhealthy like we were taking in smoke more then without the masks.

According to CEO Bob Chapek during an interview it's very likely masks will be required by guests. The upside will be very low crowds if it's anything like what Shanghai Disneyland guests reported from yesterday.

All the excuses.. they just keep on a coming , like people havnt been wearing masks in Disneyland Shanghai before this, and have managed perfectly fine on the rides.
The pictures I’ve seen from Shanghai seem to show that most people are wearing surgical masks. I’ve used those before for work, and to me they were a lot easier to breathe in compared to the cloth masks. I might be able to survive a Florida July days in a surgical mask.

Work (which is not medical, so not highest priority) has warned that our PPE is low and we should be prepared for unscheduled shutdowns. I’ve also continued to see pleas from medical facilities near my area that they are short and using their masks long beyond intended use.

I won’t be buying surgical masks to use in a theme park while medical workers are struggling to get them, and I don’t see how I can go a whole day wearing a cloth mask practically non-stop. So I just won’t go.

Did you wear a cloth mask? I can imagine they would hold odors mores than disposable ones. Yuck.

I feel that if you really want to go to Disney, you will wear a mask. Lets be honest, there are those who won't go in the summer because of the heat anyway. Now if you don't want to wear a mask in the heat, go another time. I love Disney and if they say mask I will happily wear a mask. We go 3 times a year, one of those times is in August - We sweat like crazy normally so a mask really won't make me sweat that much more. As for glasses fogging up, I wear glasses and find if the mask fits tightly over the nose, I never fog up!

I can definitely see your point, but I think ppl (SOME) are assuming that there are people that should wear a mask because they REALLY want to go Disney -

Background for a sec.- We are.currently in the epicenter of hell - NYC

DD 14 missed out on everything associated with middle school graduation - prom, graduation ceremony, senior trip - you name it !

We have gone to Disney every single year (sometimes 3-4 x a year) since my kids were 6 months old)

We are currently booked from July 14- August 3 - our longest trip to date. Trust me - it's all.we talk about and we want to go so badly - but my feeling is many that REALLY want to go to "Disney" , don't want to go because of the mask - to us, it just wouldn't be Disney - not the Disney we know -

Our joy in Disney ( we are more food ppl than ride ppl) is walking around World Showcase trying different foods - each trip, we try and find two restaurants to try that we've never been to - ( in all the parks and DS total)

If you told me no more TS restaurants, I wouldn't go either
Doesn't mean I REALLY don't want to go. Some may argue that we can still enjoy CS, and that might be true - to an extent - but to us, it just wouldn't be Disney anymore - maybe Disney-lite or Disney 2.0?

How long do you think guests will be required to wear face masks, have a trip planned in November and unsure if I want to cancel, as I wouldn't want to wear a face mask

Absolutely will wear a mask. We go in October (just got airfare for $154 round trip) and then December for a weekend to see the parks decorated. So we are not worried about heat and humidity!
People have quickly adjusted here to wearing them - even outside today as we were watching the Blue Angels do a fly by.

Meh, I don’t mind wearing a mask and don’t mind having to do it at Disney. It does make my nose itch though. I think it would help if I could find one that’s more formed/rigid and shaped out from my face like a cup. I’ve been trying to focus on the positives, like not having to worry about chapped lips and/or lipstick, not having to worry about waxing my menopause mustache, and not having to smell other people.

How will Disney enforce the way to properly wear the mask? People are different here then they are in Asia and I am sure many here won't even keep it on properly. i.e slipping it around their neck repeatedly and not covering their nose.

I have to wear a mask all day long and I am outside all day. I have gotten use to it but, on days when it is hotter I don't feel so good.
