How hot is it in August in WDW?

hi. I'm traveling to WDW August 11-15. I've never been there in August, and have asthma which is sometimes aggrevated by heat. Should I be worried? I plan to drink lots of water and gatorade and bring my inhaler with me.

It is very hot and humid in August. That said we will be in the world again this August. Pace yourself, take lots of breaks, sit in the air conditioned shows and it is very doable.

Keep yourself well hydrated. Also watch going from the heat to the air conditioning. The dramatic temperature change is what sets off my asthema.

We'll be there Aug 14-24. Although, it was warmer in Chi-town yeasterday than it was in Orlando:smooth:

prepare, prepare, prepare.....
get a mister with a fan from any walmart, publix etc. that you can. Priority seat yourself inside a.c. for lunch from noon until 2 or 3 if you can. Take extra inhalers. Don't forget about the first aid stations available in the parks--look on the maps at the entrance maybe they can give you some on hand tips. It's hot, reallllllly hot and as humid as it is hot. You know that shower you take in the morning before you go to the parks??? Doesn't last long. No I don't have personal experience at the World in August but I live one state up and in Ga. August just 'sucks the life out of you'. We just got back 2 weeks ago though and these tips worked for us......that mister/fan was the absolute most necessary thing we brought from home......and don't forget the sunscreen. (I'm also an R.N.) Have a blast, just try to go with the flow and know what is your limit. :) :) :)

My son has asthma and we went in August last year and have a trip planned this year as well. He used his inhaler infrequently last year - but his triggers are mostly allergens. It is hot - similar to what we are experiencing in NY right now! Hot and humid, where the heat index is higher than the actual 93 degrees. It's really the humidity - so on some days it seems more tolerable than others, depending on how heavy the air is. Pace yourself, take frequent breaks - lots of water...you know the drill! With so many people repeating the summer survival mantra at Disney, you know it helps. Have a great time!

Drink lots of WATER! NOT SODAS This will keep you well hydrated. I use a big Tupperware thermal cup and fill it with ice and water as needed. Pop on my no spill lid and insert my straw and I'm ready to go.

Pace yourself. Breakneck speed is not recommended, FInd all shady spots.

Forget the mister and get a small portable fan. Why add to the humidity by spraying water all over the place. It's already thick enough to cut. Don't add too it.

Personally it was hotter in Philly area last year in August, than it was in Orlando .

This is our second year going in August. It seemed fine for us.

We drank water, went in AC, did some indoor things, and we had a blast. We used sunscreen and never had a problem.

Like I said itwas hotter in PA than it was in Orlando that week.

If you are used to hot (we are), and love heat (we do), we found it fine.

its funny, I have been every month in the summer and found June to be the most uncomfortable. Maybe it was because we northerners weren't used to heat yet or what. Lately it has been 90+ with trememdous humidity. as I always say, I would rather be a little hot in Disney World, than hot at home!!

I have only ever gone in August and have not found it to be a problem. The crowds are so much thinner then that I enjoy it more than if it were a few degrees cooler but packed with crowds. Disney does a great job with shading the waiting areas, having mist areas and with the FastPasses, your waits will be minimal!:bounce:

Been going to WDW for about 25 years now. It's never been "great" in EARLY August. Better in Late August or early September. Best in November.

We will be in Disney World August 13th-19th. Will anyone be wearing the green ribbons? Maybe we'll spot eachother.
I am from the Philadelphia area too!

I have never been to Disney before and I am so excited. I am far more excited than my husband or any of my four children!
It has been so hot here this summer, I can't imagine it being any worse anywhere!

Lori

Lori... I'm excited for you ! Anytime is great at Disney, but your first time is so magical...you'll never forget it ! My dh and I will be there with our 6 year old grandson Aug 16-20. We'll be at the WL. I'll have my lime green ribbon on and I'll look for you . It will be hot, so the best advice is to take a break after lunch and use those Fast Passes !!:bounce: :bounce: HAVE A BALL !!!!!

We go to the World every year the last 2 weeks of August and don't have any problems! My son has asthma and has never had a problem. NJ humidity bothers me (us) much more than just "hot" in Orlando!

Enjoy!

AK on th 17th and MGM on the 18th. Look for a power wheelchair with a lime green backpack and ribbons on it.

Disney World in August = oppressiveness for the non-floridian. If you are from the north, you must pace yourself. I am from PA and yes it is "hotter" than Orlando. But, the humidity is not as high. On a bad day, PA relative humidity in mid afternoon is about 45 percent. In Orlando, the relative humidity is routinely at 60 percent. This makes for "heavy" air.

Attitude more than anything matters. If you go to the World in August and are dreading the heat, you have already lost. You must have an open mind and convince yourself that it really isnt that bad. For me, I traveled to the World once in August and will never do it in the summer again. We take our trips no earlier than early November and no later than the First week of March. Frankly, going in Mid December and Mid January work well, but are a crap shoot because it can be somewhat cool or very warm. But, minimal relative humidity.

There is no way it could be any worse in Orlando than it has been in the North east this week! I live in Upstate NY and they have ozone warnings out. Every morning we wake up to water all over the windows from the humidity. If I can endure the weather here this week I can do Florida.

Well, we just got back Monday night, and I did not think it was hot at WDW at all, compared to what I came home to in PA.
We got up early most mornings. It would get a bit hot by 10, but we came prepared with our frozen water bottles and squeeze breezes-full of ice. I also used a cool scarf a few times.
There are so many fountains and air conditioned buildings, that cooling off was not a problem.
I would say that going from the heat to the air conditioned buildings did cause a bit of a problem, as I started feeling sick towards the end of the week. I have learned not to get wet in a fountain and go into an air conditioned building. You really have to be careful.
I did take Ibuprophin with me, and I felt much better. I probably should have slept and rested more too, but I was having such a good time.
It rained every afternoon down there last week, and this cooled things off a lot. We actually avoided a lot of the rain, while we ate lunch or were back at the cabin. We survived the week without buying ponchos for $6 a piece. I would say it's a toss up-having one to make it through the rain (sometimes while waiting for a parade to begin), or carriing the poncho around all day. I did not want to be carriing anything by the end of the week, not even my fanny pack, because my back and legs hurt!
All in all it was wonderful, and I'd love to do it again!
