How long before DVC and all of WDW is shut again.

Disney will not close down after opening, or delay its opening.

"But look at all the cases!!!"

Exactly why. COVID is obviously being widely transmitted in FL at bars, at the mall, at the salon, at the home, at workplaces, at the bank, at the supermarket etc. etc. etc. So what if Disney is added to the list of places you get it. Why close Disney unless you are going to close everything, which the Gov has made clear is not happening.

Universal has been open for a month and we haven't heard any rumblings about them closing back down. Let's hope it goes well for Disney, cast members and guests alike.

We don't actually know if they're doing contract tracing here, so who knows if things are OK at Universal? They (the state) did contact tracing that resulted in the shut down at bar near UCF because people in the same zip code got COVID-19. But they're saying that the information is coming in too slow to do proper contact tracing. I hope Universal and Disney are/will be safe, but how do we really know? I sent a note to the Dept. of Health asking about this the other day. If I ever hear back, I'll post the response.

Betting 3 weeks, after reopening. A total guess on my part. I AM grateful for all the recent discounts.... people will rush in - and we NEED guinea pigs :). We are not going.... let's see what the data shows :).

Because you actually believe in your message that the safety of your guests and staff is your #1 priority. Thats why youd do it even when others arent.

This thread is NOT the place for any political discussion (which is a violation of the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when we registered).

Any further deviation from the topic will result in closure of this thead.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was another closure. I just don't get why so many people are determined to go headfirst into the eye of the storm. No thank you.

I too think they may close up again. If so, the backlog of DVC points will continue to rise and make matters even worse in the years to come with availability. Hopefully that wont' happen but it certainly is a possibility.

While I think there is a good chance of re closing, the time-frame I see is next winter when the country enters the second wave as opportunists for outside distancing and other benefits diminishes and buildings need to recirculate a much higher percentage of air to be able to maintain temperature

With that said I think increasing crowd levels may be very difficult over the next 6 months, so how long Disney can loose money running the parks and resorts vs closing may be a consideration also.

I highly highly highly doubt they are running more in the red with parks open vs closed.

Remember even when no one is there they have to have things like AC and some mechanicals running.

You are also paying staff for upkeep as well and likely paying more senior specialist so they don't get poached.

Also I didn't say they were turning a profit I am saying they are losing less money by being open.

if the calculation is that you keep most of staff when closed then open is always better, if it is compared to a full closing with minimal staff, I do not think we can with any certainly know which drains more cash and what the capacity tipping point is.

I would suspect staff salaries are a small subset of actual costs.

In addition reclosing the park will have long term damaging impact on the park as people worry about reclosure and choose to push off scheduling anything for a couple more years.

yes these will be difficult decisions with too many intangibles and unknowns

I think it could happen. I really thought by this time a few months back it would be almost over with, at least for a bit. Boy was I wrong, way wrong.:sad: I really do feel I will possibly lose a close family member to this, or even possibly my own life.

I am sorry that you feel scared. I hate that anybody feels that way. I will never tell anybody what to feel because we are all different, but I do think it is very important to remember that contagious does not equal a death sentence. It has a 99.9% recovery rate. Most people who get it have mild symptoms. People who are at-risk or elderly should definitely take extra precaution. And of course if people are scared they should stay home if it brings them peace.

I think all of us have to realize that Covid is going to be around just like the flu, strep, bronchitis, etc. The infection rate is higher, but that does not mean everybody is going to die from it. Media of all sorts make money off of the emotions of people; fear and worry. It causes us see "facts" through the lens of emotions. I stopped listening to MSM and started listening to surgeons, Immunologists, Virologists and even Epidemiologists on the topic and when I heard scientific facts it brought a lot of peace and understanding. This was for both the topic of the actual virus as well as masks. They even speak to inflated numbers. Very educational.

Just as an aside, I had it already a few months ago. For me it was like bronchitis or an upper resp infection. I had mild fever for about 5 days, a cough that kept me up at night and I wheezed. My husband nor children got sick and nobody avoided me (in my house). I am in my 40s.
We have 4 family members about an hour away who have it now. They are in 3 different houses. The oldest being 93 and she is in the hospital for observation and the others in their 50s and 60s, all doing well. They are about 7 - 9 days in. 2 of them said it feels like a horrible case of the flu, the 93-year-old is miserable and the 4th one said it is giving him "potty problems", but no other symptoms.
My good friend, 68, had it and although she was in the hospital, she did not need a respirator. She went in because her husband passed a few years ago and she was alone and has diabetes. She asked the hospital to take her so she could be watched. She recovered just fine. She said the worst part was that they literally tested her every day. She equated it to a very bad case of the flu.
A co-worker, 41, had it while unable to work. She was sick with a crazy cough and fever for about 5 days. She said the worst part was the 102 fever that would not break. Once the fever broke she felt great. She said it was like a bad case of the flu.

I think Disney, if they stick strictly to their protocols, will be pretty safe overall. The problems will be caused by some guests refusing to comply with mask requirements and distancing.

People crowding to the rivers for tubing and bars has caused a lot of our problems here in Texas. The restaurants I've been to in the last few weeks have been very strict about sanitizing and distancing, as well as having employees wearing masks.

When you consider that Texas, in 2017 & 2018, saw over 10K deaths from the flu, you really have to ask why the draconian measures for 3K deaths from Covid. ALL life is valuable and I am not brushing that off, but the facts are the more people in a state of 29 million die in car accidents each year and many more from the flu than this virus. And when TPTB openly admit that all deaths are being labeled as Covid, even when they are not, we are not even sure that those 3K are truly related to the virus. I am confident that many, many more have antibodies and immunity than we think.

There are scientists who dispute this. Apparently the antibody tests referred to in the article you posted do not look for T-cell immunity which appears to be much more prevalent. It is mind blowing to me how this article from a reputable publication does not mention this topic, even in an attempt to dispute it. This T-cell discussion has been around for awhile too. Here is an article about it.

Sorry, I stopped reading at "Both studies are based on small sample sizes and neither have yet been vetted by peer review."

You are less likely to die in a car crash then die from Covid19. 2018 reported 36,560 car accident deaths. We currently have 134,097 Covid19 related deaths and its only 6 months out of the year.

We can only hope that when Disney does open, visitors take heed of the protocols Disney has in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.
We are longing to come back to Florida. However, the fact that UK visitors cannot even enter the country for the foreseeable future draws a very thick line under the possibility.
Please stay safe, well and take care of yourselves and each other.

I was in two places close to Disney yesterday where many Disney CM's live, had to stop at a 7-11 and a Pizza Hut. Anyway, in front of me while I was picking up milk at 7-11 were two CM's coming from work in uniform. We chatted briefly and I told them to stay safe. Then I went to pick up pizza at Pizza Hut and there was a security officer in uniform waiting for her pizza. We chatted while both waiting for carryout and she didn't seem happy about returning. She said that she had health conditions and was worried. STAY SAFE:goodvibes all CM's who are returning to work today!
