How much masking

So my husband is hesitant to sail on DCL bc of the masking policy indoors. The description makes it seem like there are certain venues indoors that you can unmask in. Can anyone tell me when you can and cannot unmask indoors. I understand eating and drinking, but do you have to be seated for that? Can you walk around indoors with a drink? What are the rules? We are currently sailing NCL next month because they are not making ppl wear masks. (It’s 100% vaxed on board). He wants to stick with them, but I just love the Christmas and Halloween themes so much! I want to go back!

No you can not be eating or drinking while walking around the ship.

You can unmask while seated in dining rooms and at bars. Other than that, if you are indoors, you are masked. (except your stateroom of course). Even if you eat or drink in other venues (like theaters) you must wear masks unless you are actually eating. When we were in the movie theater we pulled down the masks between sips of drinks.

Right, but then it says Face coverings are not required for Guests outdoors while on board the ship and at designated locations. Where are these designated locations they are referring to? Inside?

Inside your stateroom, while seated in the MDRs or Cabanas, while seated and eating/drinking in the lounges, while having your picture taken. Those are the "designated locations". Other than that, you must wear a mask indoors.

If that were a legit “out,” then you know what everybody would do - just always have a drink in your hand while indoors, and never wear a mask.

If I recall correctly, the parks had to amend their “while eating or drinking” masking exception to include “while stationary” because guests were doing exactly what I described above.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Early on at the parks it was just "while eating or drinking," but then so many people just kept walking around with water bottles or drinks in their hands so they could say they were drinking that they amended it to say you had to be eating or drinking while stationary. I see it on airplanes too (though some have cracked down a bit), that people just hold a bag of snacks in their hand to say "I'm eating" as justification to keep their mask off the entire flight. Now it's "actively eating or drinking."

I mean, show me the sign where it says I can't ride a motorcycle on the casino floor.

It's sad. Honestly, I still don't stop at Disney World to take a quick sip, but just flip the mask down and back up. I get why they had to institute the rule, but hey, I've got rides to get to, and I promise not to be a jerk!

Pools or anywhere outside. Inside mask up. Also most cruiselines going to masks inside.

designated indoor are is your state room or when actively eating or drinking while sitting. So at lounges, seminars, movies, shows, etc he has to wesr a mask.

I would highly discourage you from sailing if anyone in your party is hesitant on masking. It's just a recipe for an unpleasant trip that leaves a sour taste in your mouth for spending a good amount of money on a cruise and not feeling like it was worth it because you had to wear a mask when you didn't want to and got all paranoid and tense when wondering if you should be wearing a mask or not.

I get the itch to get back onboard, but personally would just wait until it can be a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for the money these cruises cost.
