Hopefully more dp's come out before people start PCing and apping for a new CSR. Starting to look like Chase might be denying for being 2/6, though nothing concrete yet. But more people on r/churning are coming in with denials that would normally not be getting them, similar to the people here. Def going to change things once it's sorted out enough to know what it all means.
I have noticed the 2/6 being discussed, I won’t be able to take advantage of this increased SUB, I’m currently at 2/6, won’t be 1/6 until October. And 0/6 until January. I was also hoping to MDD this year to extend DH’s CP another 6 months, but I don’t think that will be possible.

Yeah, one I saw earlier the MDD wasn't successful because the 1st card put them at 2/6 and there was nothing the csr could do. There's been at least a couple where they said the person wanted to approve it but couldn't because of 2/6 or whatever. One couldn't even move credit around, which is also seeming to be an issue. One person had like 5 chase cards, so "a lot" and had reduced prior to apping I think for the Hyatt to 22% and they said no, nothing we can do, offered to move credit and nope. One person, can't remember what of this all goes together and what doesn't as the comments on a dp provide more dp, said the CSR couldn't move any of the 10k bal from the CSR to another card because it was greyed out. Escalating to a manager isn't changing anything either. So Chase is def getting tighter about more than just sole prop biz cards.

A few brief thoughts on the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the month of AUGUST
Hello DISchurners friends and welcome to the month of August. If you're anything like me, you have no idea that it's August because you're still waiting for March Madness, the Masters, the NBA Finals, and a bunch of other things to happen before it could possibly be August...but I assure you, it is in fact AUGUST.

A bit of backstory on the CSR:
August has a very interesting history with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. You see, back in August 2016, the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (CSR) was released. Newer churners may not even remember a time before the CSR existed but to many long-time churners it was a defining point in churning history.

The CSR and it's all-time high bonus of 100,000 UR POINTS (yes you read that right) for just $4k MSR was indeed a game changer. What was once a fringe hobby suddenly got thrust in to the mainstream. People were talking about this new credit card and it's sign-up bonus worth $1,500 in free travel! A $450 annual fee seemed like a non-issue. This card, and its big-time bonus brought a bunch of people into the churning game and in my humble opinion, too many of them stuck around. What's done is done, and there's no sense in crying over spilled milk but the Pre-CSR churning days are thought of as the "good old days" by many a veteran churner.

Nonetheless, this new card came along...and attracted a ton of new people, BUT most churners at that time weren't going to be eligible because of that pesky 5/24 which at that time was still a fairly new concept (it first came along in mid-2015).

The LEAKED link:
Monday August 15th, 2016... I'll never forget it. Sometime during the Monday work day, a LIVE link for the CSR was found, and the card wasn't going to be released for another week. And even crazier...the link did NOT have a 5/24 restriction!!

I ALWAYS perused r/churning on Mondays... I was bored, it was Monday, you know the drill. Well this Monday...I didn't. I was busy...doing who knows what... by the time I caught my "T" home...the link was DEAD!

Close to a hundred of my friends on r/churning took advantage of the link in the couple of hours it was up. And then a week later, when the card was officially launched, 5/24 was in place, and everybody who missed out on the leaked link got denied.

For those that care to read a bit more here and here.

August 2017... The ONE Sapphire to rule them all.
On or around August 27th, 2017 - Chase implemented a new rule on the Chase Sapphire card lineup. As we all know now, the "one Sapphire rule" basically tied the bonus eligibility on the 2 cards together. If you earned a bonus on either Sapphire card in the past 24 months, you were now ineligible for a bonus on the other one. So all of those new CSR fans who thought, wow I could get some more URs by grabbing a CSP... were suddenly not able to do so. CSR holders clung to their card stating "My Precious!" (Ok that last part is a little Gollum humor)

August 2018... no CHURN for you!
AGAIN On August 27, now in 2018 (what a crazy coincidence), just weeks before people would officially be able to churn the CSR due to the 24 month restriction... Chase dropped a hammer on churners: 48 MONTH RESTRICTION on the Sapphire line. So now not only was the one sapphire rule in affect, but if you earned a sapphire bonus on either card in the past 48 months you were shut out! Support links lived on for another 3 weeks or so but then those were gone too.

Also in or around August 2018 is when rumblings started about the death of the double dip as Chase began manually closing cards that were applied for on the same day. Of course, as we know now, there still is the MDD which is alive and well to this day, but the death of the double dip was scary for many churners. You can read more about that here.

If you haven't been around this game long, you need to realize that we basically expect doom and gloom. There's a LOT of bad news in this game, lol. You just learn to roll with it!

TODAY... August 2020
So why write all of this now? Well, an interesting milestone is about to arise. Some unknown churner out there will soon be the first person to churn the CSR. If the earliest you could apply was 8/15/16 via a leaked link or 8/22/16 via public link, then even if you met your MSR immediately, that first statement close would not have occurred until Sept 2016 meaning 48 months would happen in Sept 2020. I wonder if there's somebody out there who grabbed a CSR via the leaked link and is still under 5/24 ready to be the first to churn the CSR??

If you're one of those early CSR applicants, it might be worth looking back to see when you earned your CSR bonus because you soon might be eligible for a new Sapphire card.

To be eligible for a CSP and/or CSR bonus here's what I believe are the restrictions:
  • Not currently a cardholder of a CS, CSP, or CSR (if you have one you can simply PC to a CF or CFU to get around this - you don't have to close the card).
  • 48 months have passed since you earned (and posted) any signup bonus on a Sapphire card.
I hope you enjoyed this little walk down memory lane. I am somewhat of a churning historian so it was fun to put this together!
Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I didn't sign up immediately for the CSR, but I am planning to apply again once I hit the 48 months.

Does 2/6 include Chase biz cards or strictly personal cards?

I can't remember the makeup of what cards people had, but since the latest most of these people would have been able to get a biz card is March it's hard to say. That's only Feb/March that would count in the 6 months. But I would guess it would count, but again if you are 2/6 right now with a biz card you'd only need to wait 2 months or so at most to be 1/6. Some of the dps have had biz cards, I just can't remember if they were part of the 2.

Looks like I'll be calling SW tomorrow. The changes to flights lately have been coming so frequently I can hardly keep up. So far, though, they haven't been too horrible...until today. My return flight for our Labor Day trip was a nonstop at 4:40 pm, which worked great as we planned to do Epcot that last day and would be able to walk back to BCV for our ride to the airport.

Now they have me on a 12:40 pm flight with a 40 min layover to change planes in Dallas. I sent a screenshot to my husband letting him know and he seems confused. Apparently they moved him to an entirely different flight departing at 7:35 am. Ugh. He's flying as my companion so I'm not understanding how this could happen. I know we have 2 confirmation numbers, but couldn't they tell we were "traveling together" with the CP? Hoping I can get all this sorted out tomorrow.

Now to check with my SIL and BIL who are coming with us. We were supposed to be riding together to the airport. Hoping their flight changes can line up with whichever flight we end up on, but who knows at this point.

Hi Everyone!

I'm looking for a little help in finding the next CC for me. I have some big expenses coming up, and would like to take advantage to meet spending requirements on any bonuses. I'm hoping for more travel cards to help me stockpile points for future travel. We don't have any imminent need, we have a couple of trips planned, but have enough points, should we actually move forward with those trips.

Cards in the last 24 months
02/19 Amex Delta Gold.
05/19 Chase Preferred
06/19 Chase Freedom Unlimited

A couple of older cards I still have
06/04 Capital One Quicksilver
07/15 Citi double cash back

A little about me.
I spend anywhere from 1k - 3k per month. I do have some big expenses coming up though.
I always pay off my CC in full every month (sometimes, I make multiple payments in a month)
I fly out of MSP (Minneapolis, St. Paul- MN)
I prefer Delta, since it’s the biggest player in MN.
Southwest does serve MSP, but it’s pretty limited, so not preferred.
Currently I have both Marriott and Hilton rewards programs - but those are mostly due to work travel. Not doing much work travel now, so I’m not tied to either of them.

I have points in
Chase Ultimate rewards 87,969pts
Delta Skymiles 79,192
Marriott Bonvoy 34,913
Hilton Honors 40,485

Goals - I have a general list. Most of these don’t have a timeline, except for WDW. We have 2 trips planned, but I’m not sure if we’ll do both. One in October and one in Feb. Both, we’re holding out to see how things go in FL.
Walt Disney World
Disneyland
Hawaii
Europe
Travel will most likely just be me and my BF. We have no kids. Some extended family may travel, with us, but nothing planned yet.

Thank you for any help!
Rebecca

Many side gigs can qualify as a business for credit cards - tutoring, babysitting, rentals, selling on eBay, etc. You would apply as a sole proprietor and use your name as the business name. This doesn't help you with Chase business cards though, as they don't seem to be approving sole proprietors much these days. You are 3/24 - 3 new personal cards in the last 24 months. Chase won't approve you once you get to 5/24. Business cards don't go towards this count as long as they don't show up on your personal credit report (most don't). If you choose not to go for business cards, then I think your next cards should be Chase cards. If wouldn't make sense to go for personal cards from other issuers, take up the last 2 slots, and lock yourself out of Chase. In this case, I would consider the Hyatt and the Bonvoy Boundless (which is currently elevated at 100k).

The Hyatt is a nice keeper card if you can use the category 1-4 free night every renewal (after the first year) on something that costs more than the $95 annual fee.

Both Chase and Amex have Bonvoy cards, there are some complicated rules about which cards you can get when you've had others. If you get the Chase Bonvoy Boundless, I think it effectively locks you out of the Amex Bonvoy cards for 2 years. You can check this chart if you want details (sorry to link TPG lol).
https://thepointsguy.com/guide/eligibility-chart-marriott-bonvoy-cards/
Only Amex has a Bonvoy business card though, so if you decide to go for business cards, maybe you'd rather go down the Amex track. The bonus on that isn't currently elevated though, so I wouldn't do that now.

Thanks for the extra info. It does seem like a good direction to go. I may keep looking for a better offer though.
I was thinking about upgrading my delta Amex to Platinum. I’ll have to look at the rules for the companion pass. I don’t know when we’ll really start to travel again and would hate for it to expire.

When you upgrade a card with Amex, you lock yourself out of the bonus. It would be better to apply for the Delta Plat than to upgrade, but the bonus isn't elevated at the moment. Amex bonuses are usually once per "lifetime", so it's best to catch them at the highest possible.

DH and I each have Amex offer for 10% back up to $40 at Staples. Is it safe to use this on the no fee VGC sale?

Looking for advice on a new business card. DH and I are both at 4/24 so holding off on new personal cards till we're ready to go for MDD. I know Chase biz cards are out for now. Currently for biz cards (not including our Chase cards) I have Amex BBP, citi AA, barclay AA. DH has Amex Hilton and Amex Delta. We're interested in collecting Amex MR, Delta, AA,- maybe Marriott but I need to figure out the Marriott Chase vs Amex rules. Also would look at a biz card that offers cash back. I would go for the Delta but the SUB seem so low right now. When DH got his Delta biz gold earlier this year the offer was 60,000 plus 10,000 at anniversary. The best I can get on that card now is 45,000.

Do not buy if you are hitting the initial minimum spend requirement. After that it should be. Level 3 data from staples so don’t want that initial sign up bonus getting clawed back.

This offer popped up on my Marriott card today. Wasn't there when it launched for sure, only had it on my MR cards.

Also see an offer for ShopRite, 10% back on purchases up to $15. Expires 10/05.

I've been waiting for that Marriott offer to hit my Brilliant and it hit this morning! I had it on my MR card earlier this week as well but I didn't bite. I have a second offer on an authorized user card.

I also have the ShopRite on my SPG Biz and on an authorized user card. My offer is 20% off up to $20. I'll have to drive to redeem but hopefully they have some gift cards. Last time the cards I wanted they didn't have.

Yeah, one I saw earlier the MDD wasn't successful because the 1st card put them at 2/6 and there was nothing the csr could do. I haven’t been keeping up with this, but have had my own issues with Chase and this helps me make sense of it all. Is it 2 approvals in 6 months? That’s the 2/6? I’m really glad I left my last two Chase biz cards at the credit limit they gave me and didn’t reduce them like I have with the others. At least I have two cards I can potentially PC.

Looking for a little help:
I'm hearing reports that Chase "Black Star" and/or "Green Star" preapproved offers have completely disappeared from online accounts. If you have a few minutes can you login to your Chase account on a computer, and go to the menu on the left and find "Just For You" under Explore Products. When you click it, reply to this message if you see any black star or green star offers for Chase cards. It would be sad if these were truly gone - feel free to reply either way if you see them or not.

EDIT: If you have a Chase biz login and an old chase personal login, you might actually want to check both as they could show different things.

A little more detail on why these were magical:
