I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

I have 13 more pages to read but I thought I'd post this and get your input....

We have Ireland booked Mar 14-20 to try and celebrate my dd's 19th bday (on SPD). My dd and I have Biz class. All my mom was able to get was economy. I have a hotel on hold in Galway but that is it. I was dragging my feet on booking since my mom hadn't booked her ticket and you know booking a room for 3 vs 2 is harder and more expensive.

Last year the day before we were set to leave we found out my mom's cancer was back :( In the past year they have been checking it often, but it's now grown and she needs to start radiation in a few weeks. She said it'll only be 3 weeks and she'll be done before March. But I can't help but feel like this is just another sign to cancel again :(

We still need to book flights to PHL where we are flying out of (TBH, I'll likely try to non-rev if there are enough flights). I still need to book a rental car and the other hotels, etc. We're going to do SPD in Ireland, but now I wonder again if we're going to be able to pull this off.

My mom thinks she'll be okay, WWYD? She says she might be a little tired. I tried to tell her we'll be going at it kinda hard for the time we are there. She's wanted to do a summer trip instead (all along). But I do want to give my daughter her bday in Ireland too! UGH.

Okay read the 13 pages......

Last week we cashed in on our 2 Free Nights thanks to Oceans Prime at Resorts World. We got 2 nights in the Conrad, $100 F&B and $100 free play. Well somehow the $100 in freeplay became $200. I managed to make $140 with it :) We were bummed on the F&B, we wanted to use it at the mexican restaurant. We planned on going after the Lions game. They were closed for a private event. So we ended up using it at the sports bar.

My daughter had jaw surgery in December. We pushed it through because I hit her deductible and co-insurance amounts. Imagine my SHOCK when I got a $4100 bill this week! My BFF works in a hospital in SC and was SHOCKED they didn't give me an estimate. I called my insurance and they are going to look into. But the bill is in my daughter's name. She is 18 now. So we did fill out the paperwork for assistance. We were NOT planning on $4100. I expected some kinda co-pay/charges but not that much. I would have just waited until this year because we plan on getting her tonsils out now before I lose my insurance (retirement).

So if we do have to pay the $4100 what card do you suggest? I mean I have so many. I have homeowners to add to a card soon and taxes too. Is an Amex plat worth it? I kinda always said if I was going to get that I would time it to triple dip.....I probably have close to $8k I could charge soon. I'm 4/24 (drop to 3/24 in March). I'm just trying to think what might make sense.

Thanks! I have the IHG, I'll check it out!
IHG doesn't have the cell coverage anymore :( I was sad it lost that!

Anyone have experience with family friendly hotels in Vegas that will sleep 5? My kids are still young so a couch or roll-away is fine, but the websites won't even let me add more than 2 kids to the room to search. It'll just be 1 night, but I'd still love if it was near something the kids would find fun to do.
Palazzo room is huge and you could do 2 queens. It comes w/ a sectional w/ a pull out. I wouldn't call it "family friendly" persay but is any casino? I wouldn't even put 5 on the reservation, because all the rooms come w/ the couch.

I was up super early (again) today and was in my Hilton app. I noticed that I had 3 FNCs. Upon clicking through them, noticed one is a “goodwill” FNC from AmEx! I wasted no time and booked a third night at the Aleph Rome. Yay AmEx for coming through on their promise to do something for the inconvenience of waiting 4 months for my SUB. Though tbh I did not expect such a generous goodwill gesture!
OOOOH, not me texting the BF as he's flying today to look and see if he got another too! He got his first FNC. But if he got 2, and I'm earning one....that will be another trip to Mexico, LOL. ETA: He texted me he got another FNC and about 23k more points! So WOOOO!

Oh yeah, one more question......

I have a bunch of cards coming up on renewal. And I'm not sure if it's worth keeping....

Wyndham - I think I'll keep for the Casear's perks for now.
Jet Blue- I got this for the flight to Boston for Ireland last year. JB isn't an airline I'll fly often since they don't have many options from DTW. So I'm thinking I'll make another charge before I cancel it, to keep the miles active and then cancel.
Delta Plat Biz - My plan originally was to downgrade to Delta Gold Biz (which I had before) to keep free checked bags. But now that my BF flies for Delta, I wonder how often I'd need checked bags when traveling (since non-rev get free checked). But there isn't a free business Delta I can downgrade to....(I've had the personal gold, gold biz and plat biz).

I think I'm about to upset Barclay and Amex w/ all these cancellations, LOL. I need to get the AAviator again, so hopefully they let me, LOL.

Can you make it for your daughter's birthday and a little slower for mom? You and your daughter might be able to have another trip, it might be your moms last chance. (Can you accompany her to her oncology appointment and see what her dr says? )
I planned a big trip for my parents' 50th anniversary with my sister's family and mine. Every single thing was booked for June. In May we found out my dad's cancer returned and was terminal. We canceled the trip and thankfully so because he was hospitalized June 28 when we would have been in Florida. He passed in September. I talked my sister into rebooking the following February for mom's birthday so we could have the trip before something happened to her too. (10 years later, she's still here but she has had chronic health issues for years and everyone thought she would pass first.)

JetBlue miles do not expire.

It's pretty easy to justify a personal platinum because of the $240 in digital credits, $200 in Uber credits, and $200 in Fine Hotels credit. I'm not really able to use the airline credit, but if you can, then that's another $200. It's harder to justify having more than one. I will also always keep at least one business Platinum for the 35% rebate that you get for first class or business travel or, if it's on your selected airline, coach. I find the redemptions are much lower purchasing the tickets using MR this way than redeeming airlines' frequent flyer programs directly.

I can't remember who was looking for flights to/from Japan but you may look into this. Both economy and business are available.
Me! (and maybe others). Fortunately (since I didn't see this until a few minutes ago) I don't think this release included the dates I'm looking for, since there's still a lot of availability on the Delta flights (and the award points are still quite high). But this gives me hope. Thanks for posting!

Do you ever fly SW or Delta? You could use the airline credit that way

You can always go to Ireland, but time with your mom can’t be replaced. You still have several weeks to wait before you cancel, so maybe wait it out and see how her cancer reacts to the radiation? One major consideration for me would be: will your mom have insurance coverage if she goes with you to Ireland and takes a turn for the worse while she’s there? We had an older gentleman with cancer on our Italy / Switzerland ABD that was fine at the start of the trip, but took a very bad turn for the worse mid-trip. We happened to have had an oncologist (on vacay with his wife and kids) on the trip who helped him a great deal, but he was lying down in the back row of the tour bus while we were on the road and when we got to hotels for the night he went to the room with his wife and we never saw them until the bus rolled out again. I felt terrible for both of them, but neither of them complained.

I’m so glad that your bf got an additional FNC too. I might cancel it on the night at the Aleph Rome (85k points) and save it for a higher value room. The expiry date is in 2025, so plenty of time to use it!

On the Delta front I would downgrade to gold biz. I cancelled my husbands delta plat biz this fall and now he is unable to get another delta card (all have pop ups). Amex has implemented the family rule with all the Delta cards. I didn’t think it would matter to cancel it because he doesn’t fly that much and I have the cards and am Delta Plat anyway…but now I view it as a mistake. The 15% on mileage flights is also nice.

Arrived safely in Koh Samui yesterday. Such a pleasure to have another flight take off right on time, something I’m not used to! My first impression of the island is that it is incredibly beautiful. The Cape Fahn is a short 10 minute drive from the airport. It is a lovely resort; I’m trying hard not to compare it to the Maldives because it is “same same” (which means different here lol), so I will judge it on its own merits when my stay is over. Gotta run to a ‘fruit sommelier’ session (free), will be interesting to see what it entails!

View of the mainland from the beach; the water is shallow enough at low tide that you can walk across (water was not even up to my knees when I went in):

I remember going there years ago, absolutely beautiful

last minute trip to the world. not one DVC room (studio or 1 br) was available for all 4 nights. Imagine my surprise when I got the Swan for all 4 nights using 4 FNC plus only 7000 points.

Air is high though. 1 non stop a day SW PHL-MCO and times stink, frontier from TTN high. probably do united down (use tb $ from plat) and jet blue back, using either my capital one points or chase UR EWR.

re the Swan, is it only MK that the bus doesn't go direct? so I'm good for springs and AK? I'll walk to HS and Epcot.

need to find out what kind of coffee maker room has and if there's a fridge.

may also look into point (mr, cap one and ur) transfers to JB

I am planning on flying mostly Delta this year but booked first class using the 35% rebate after purchasing with the redemption option with the Business Platinum. It seems like Amex was really pushing business Platinum this year, since DW and I picked up multiple new cards, each with 150K sign-up bonuses.

They are supposed to start filming the third season of the White Lotus at the Four Seasons there shortly.

For Epcot and HS there is also a boat that goes to each if you're too tired to walk. For the others, I found the buses from Boardwalk to be quicker but it's probably luck of the draw.

For room view try this. Yes coffee maker, though not sure if they have updated the type, and fridge inside dresser door.

I was looking at 77K points for Feb 9 and 10. Off to check now.

Dropped to 67k and 69K. I'll stay with my Chase rate.....for now.

Looked at other options and they are higher than what I got a couple of months ago.
