I love credit cards so much!

Not sure if you guys remember but I had kept my CSR (paid the $450 back in Oct) to get the 2018 travel credit. Then I PC'ed to a CFU. They had told me I would not receive a prorated refund but many of you said it would probably just come automatically. You were all right! I got a $375 credit today :)
Nice! I might use mine on our last minute hotel this weekend...

Can you put the deposit down with the $600 credit and wait on the the rest since DCL is usually refundable? I'd just make sure if booking thru Chase portal that it still lists as refundable

I don't believe so. The agent at Chase Travel said I'd have to use points the first time they (Chase Travel) touched the reservation. She did say you can book it with Disney first and transfer it to Chase Travel, but that it's a more difficult process for them to get control of the booking. I did not think to ask if I could book with Disney via credit card and then switch it to Chase Travel afterwards and use points, but I think I read elsewhere on DIS that you have to switch within the first 30 or 60 days.

Is booking a cruise a poor use of UR points? I'd use up most of my points in this process.

I went ahead and got the Marriott personal card on xmas day. I was instantly approved and now I'm holding off spending so I can do the minimum spend. My expenses are fairly small right now, so I'll need my three months.

We are going to WDW mid January so that will help, but I have tickets and DVC and lots of gift cards so not much.

I am looking to top up my SPG with the points. Is 'nights and flights' flights for two or just for one person? I'm thinking I want to use my SPG points in 2018 and would like to do something I don't usually do. Of to check the website for the answers.

Yes they will. I already received the travel credit plus 3x points on full amount

Awesome, I'll do that for now. Interestingly, the account for the CSR currently says "annual travel credit received $0.00", "Annual Travel Credit will begin after your statement closing date in 12/18."

That seems to mean I can use the travel credit now, even though it is supposed to reset on a calendar year basis. Is it because the December billing month is closed? I'll probably wait until Jan 1st to be safe.

Hey everyone, I promised I'd come back with an UPDATE on paying my mortgage to Provident Funding with PLastiq:

I did get it to work by changing the address to the following: ATTN Cashier, PO Box 513738, Provident, LOS ANGELES, CA 90051.

They received my payment just fine and it did code at 3x. I had to take "Provident" out of the recipient name. When I called Provident to ask where I should send a check, they told me the first line should read Attn: Cashier. I used that as the recipient name in Plastiq and it worked!

I am trying to work up the nerve to apply for a CIP. I have been reading all about it. I do some occasional vinyl and embroidery/sewing work on the side, just by word of mouth, so I guess that will be my business. Anyone get denied and want to share where they think they went wrong? I do have 4 chase cards already, only 1 opened in last 6 months though, but my total credit line among the 4 is probably $60k. I saw somewhere that your total credit line with them should be about $10k less than 50% of income and I am still well under that figure.
If I chicken out on the CIP I am going to go Marriott and SPG combo.

My son got the same message when he tried to pc his CSR to the no fee Sapphire via SM a couple of days ago. This is after I told him how easy it was for me to PC mine. He hates calling. He’s had his card for a little over 14 months and just used his 2018 travel credit, triple dipping on the credit. He’s calling this afternoon.

The credit resets after your Dec statement closes, so you should be good to use. Some people here had theirs reset a few weeks ago, used the credit, and downgraded card to something else already.

Sounds wonderful!

This is our second year doing an Aulani vacation away from our Hawaii Christmastime vacation and we love it. December is a great time to visit. The weather has been in the high 70s, cool and sunny pretty consistently, with overnight and morning showers (rainbows!) a few days last week. I think the weather was about the same last year, even though it's otherwise the rainy season. (The forecast calls for rain tomorrow — we’ll see.) We visited in August a few years ago, and it was hot and humid in the high 80s the entire time we were here. I'm sure Aulani is packed (I overheard it’s a 94% capacity), but it doesn't feel packed the way the theme parks do during Christmas. (Side note: last year, we saw Neil Patrick Harris and family; this year, I could swear Paris Jackson walked right pass me.) There are beautiful Christmas trees, garlands and holiday decorations up around the lobby and yesterday cast members were passing out complimentary hot cocoa and cookies, and Santa even stopped by Aunty's Beach House for photos.

Speaking of Mele Kalikimaka, there's an awesome limited edition pin at the gift shop of Lilo and Stich from It's a Small World, riding a surfboard and bobbing like they do in the attraction, with the wording Mele Kalikimaka 2017. I'm not a pin collector, but I love Small World and Lilo and Stitch, so I just had to have it!

Mele Kalkimaka me ka Hau'oli Makahiki Hou, everybody!

I just saw on FB that Paris Jackson posted from Aulani...so she did walk right by you!

Aha! I knew it!

She was walking down the hallway on the lobby level, very closely hugging the wall like she was trying to stay out of people’s way. I can’t imagine being famous enough that I’d have to be on guard about being seen or recognized even on vacation. I’ve spotted quite a few celebrities on vacation and always try to give them space.

If you’re under 5/24, you should definitely apply for the CIP. 80k UR points is just too big of a bonus to ignore; and if you end up referring your husband or anybody else, that’s 20k per referral. The CIP won’t could against your 5/24, and you can still go for the Marriott personal card later.

Your embroidery and sewing work is absolutely a business. My mom used to pick up side gigs sewing while otherwise raising my sisters and me full time. For a while, that was her primary source of income. Don’t be afraid use that on an application for a business credit card. Business credit cards are for small business owners with a few hundreds or thousands in revenue as much as they are for formal businesses with millions in revenue, as well as people who just have an idea or plan for a business (hello, startups!).

ETA: Here are some links from MillionMileSecrets about qualifying and applying for a business credit card that should make you feel a little better about going for it.

https://millionmilesecrets.com/2015...iness-credit-card-and-why-you-should-get-one/

https://millionmilesecrets.com/2011/06/09/3-ways-you-may-qualify-for-a-business-credit-card/

And look what’s on MMS’s front page right now:

https://millionmilesecrets.com/2017...nus-on-the-chase-ink-business-preferred-card/

It’s a sign.

Having good/excellent credit, a prior relationship with Chase (without hitting their credit cards so hard, so fast that they’ll hit you back with the ban hammer), and absolutely no other Chase applications in the past 30 days seems to help with approval. Most applications go pending with a “we’ll let you know in 30 days” message. Don’t call a human (unless you want to have to answer questions about your business); just keep checking the automated status line periodically (or several times a day if you want) and it should be approved in a few days. An update to 2 weeks is still a good sign. An automated message saying they’ll let you know in 7-10 days means likely denial. But don’t worry about that, because everything you’ve said suggests to me you’ll be approved!

P.S. Don’t forget to use referrals if you can!

ROFL! DITTO. Seriously. EXACT message my fam mem got trying to do the same darn thing. We called yesterday and they said "nope, can't downgrade until after your 1 year anniversary". I'm going to wait for other brave souls here to call and try, if anyone here reports success I'll tell my fam member to give it one more go. It's very frustrating considering everyone else seemed to have no issues with this.

A question that plagues many a point chaser :) My conclusion (as well as a good number of others here I think) is the best use of points is for what you want the most at that time. If what you want right now is a cruise and this is how you afford that, do it! Enjoy your cruise on Chase! Some people find a one way ticket in first class to Timbucktu is the best bang for their buck they can get out of a point so that's what they do, they get the best experience by getting the most dollar value out of their points, that's just not my thing. I'm not so much into "value for my points" as I am into "experience for my points". We've rented cars, paid for hotels and transferred to airline partners with our Chase points and I regret 0 of those redemptions despite the fact that others might consider them a poor use of points. The experiences in each instance were wonderful and will stay with me as long my memories do.

Good morning from Aulani!

After heavy downpour for most of yesterday, it’s looking like sun and blue skies today.

Plastiq experts, can you advise about using AmEx to make a mortgage payment? I know there have been some references to changing the name of the payee so it doesn't say "mortgage" - does that work for AmEx or only Chase?

ETA: It looks like my thought to use Plastiq to meet minimum spend for a sign-up bonus on an AmEx card is a bad idea. I guess I will find out if my utilities have a limit as to how much I can prepay . . .

I SM'd this morning, awaiting reply, although I'm trying to downgrade CSR and we've had it over a year.
