If you had an out of town

I'm starting to think about this, and there are always the things that any out of town visitor would think of and do on their own. We've had out of town visitors come in and ask if we might take them to Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Park, Muir Woods, the Golden Gate Bridge, SF Chinatown, etc. Often they'd go there on their own.

But then there are the places where I might bring a guest, where they'll say "Thank - I would have never thought of going there." We have a nearby regional park that's we've occasionally taken guests to see. And even though some visitors might think of Vista Point to see the Golden Gate Bridge, they might not think of taking the view from Conzelman Road, even though it's been used for many movies.

But I don't know about 50 miles. If I were serious about taking visitors some place they'd never forget, I'd take them to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite. That's more than 50 miles, but what I would consider the best that I could offer.

If they were interested, we'd take them to our state's capitol.
If they were interested, we'd take them to a nearby casino
I they were interested........we'd take them to Lake Michigan which is a tad over 50 miles away.

Or they could just enjoy our large yard, forest and a drink or two. ;)

1. Show them a bicycle shop.

2. Show them The Point in Pittsburgh.

3. 5 days later show them the Washington Monument in DC :D

1. Winchester Mystery House
2. Wine tasting in Gilroy/Morgan Hill
3. Just outside of 50 miles, but either north to SF or south to Monterey

If they wanted an amusement park/water park fix it would be Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun; there's also the zoo.

If they had kids and liked science stuff there's Science City at Union Station along with Legoland and Sea Life Aquarium and Hallmark visitors center at Crown Center and for history it would be the WWI museum and memorial (all are within minutes of each other).

If they liked nature then it would either be the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens or Powell Gardens (Botanical Gardens).

*Niagara Falls

*Letchworth State Park (The Grand Canyon of the East-- bonus if they arrive in Autumn!)

*Any place that serves Chicken Wings. (Many people insist Anchor Bar, but you can go almost anywhere and get good chicken wings.)

Richmond, Va. (pick your own 3)

- Plantations along Route 5
- St John’s Church
- Craft beer pub crawl
- White House of the Confederacy
- Museums (VMFA or Science Museum or Va Historical Society or Edgar Allen Poe Museum)
- Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens or Maymont Park
- State capitol
- Rafting on the James River

If we go 60 miles:
- Colonial Williamsburg
- Busch Gardens
- Monticello

  • The Calgary Stampede (if they visit in July)
  • Banff
  • Brunch at the top of the Calgary Tower
  • Bonus trip to an NHL or CFL game if they're sports fans
Thank you for not saying a ride on the cable cars. We visited San Francisco this spring and doing that was a total nightmare.

I might be in your neck of the woods next summer (Edmonton, but close enough lol). Maybe you should think of three things to do there too :scratchin

I now live in a tourist destination so this is hard!

1 - the beach (I typically take guests to less touristy ones)
2 - kayaking through the mangroves (plus out to see dolphins & manatees)
3 - Chihuly Collection + glass blowing demo OR Dali Museum

Honorable mention:
Clearwater Aquarium
Sunset boat cruise
Manatee viewing center (winter only)
John's Pass Boardwalk

If you're willing to add another 20 miles to the radius, we can visit Disney World (which every single guest has obviously wanted to do!)

I live within 50 miles of so much I don't think I can pick 3 attractions but i'll give it a try

1. Baltimore Orioles Game
2. National Mall in Washington, DC including all museums and memorials
3. Gettysburg National Battlefield

I’m just thinking of where I’ve been taken. In Chicago we went to Harrah’s Joliet and Bob Chinn’s Crab House. Near Philly we ended up at Longwood Gardens.
