I'm confused today . . . Need help understanding my use year.

If my use year begins in September, then can I borrow 2002 use year points for a vacation in August 2001? Is September 1, 2001 the earliest date for which I can use 2002 use year points?

You can borrow Sept 2001 points for an August 2001 trip. The trip would be in your 2000 use year (9-1-00 to 8-31-01), so if all your 2000 points are used, you can borrow from 2001, but not from 2002.

Banking and borrowing can be confusing. This is what I do when I get confused about banking and borrowing time frames:

My 2000 use year goes from September 1, 2000 through August 31, 2001.

My 2001 use year goes from September 1, 2001 through August 31, 2002.

My 2002 use year goes from September 1, 2002 through August 31, 2003.

My August 2001 reservation falls within my 2000 use year.

For this reservation, I may use current use year (2000) points or I may borrow points from the subsequent (2001) use year. Of course, if I had banked points from my 1999 use year, I could use those for this vacation as well.

So the answer to your question is no. You cannot borrow points from your 2002 use year to use for your August 2001 vacation.

CarolMN is correct.

You can borrow 2002 year points only one year ahead, which would be into YOUR 2001 use year, which for you is Sept 1, 2001 thru Aug 31, 2002.

August 2001 is a date in YOUR 2000 use year (Sep 2000 thru Aug 2001). You cannot borrow 2002 points into your 2000 use year.

One easy way to understand it is to think of Sep 1 as the JANUARY 1st of your use year, and think of Aug 31 as the DECEMBER 31st of your use year.

2000 = Sep 1, 2000 - Aug 31, 2001
2001 = Sep 1, 2001 - Aug 31, 2002
2002 = Sep 1, 2002 - Aug 31, 2003
2003 = Sep 1, 2003 - Aug 31, 2004
2004 = Sep 1, 2004 - Aug 31, 2005

and so on

You can bank any year into it's following year, or borrow any year into it's preceeding year. Hope this helps.
