Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

Yeah I am strongly considering blowing up my January trip at this point and trying again next year.

There's no vax requirement for indoor dining at Disney right? One of my main Disney joys is the restaurants and I'd feel better about going if there was...but I just feel like if I go now I'll inevitably get omicron and have to spend the trip at least somewhat ill (I'm vaxxed and boosted but the omicron doesn't seem to respect those clearly established boundaries.)

No vaxx requirements at Disney, or anywhere in Orlando for that matter.

We have a trip planned for 1/22 - 1/26 and are on the fence about it. Both vaccinated and boosted. Our biggest concern is catching COVID early on in the trip and getting sick even if mild. It wouldn't be ethical to fly back sick, so we would need to quarantine down there. 5 extra days at WDW normally would be great... but not under those circumstances.

So torn as to what to do.

We were supposed to go this weekend but because I’m having a high risk pregnancy my doctor didn’t want me to go.
But with Omicron and the status of Disney right now I’m not even that upset about it..
With the baby coming this spring we’re shooting for two 2023 trips - MLK weekend and then Christmas break.
Hoping Covid and Disney are both in a better spot by then…

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Wishing for you and the baby to be safe and healthy!

We have reservations at BCV and Poly starting next Monday for 9 days and we plan to go. We are both boosted and are pretty healthy but are both over 65. We wear high quality masks whenever we are in crowds and will do so on our trip whether it is required or not. We will eat in a few restaurants too. We plan to have a great time. Our points will expire in March if we don't use them which was part of the consideration. We hope for the best but will just stay in the resort if either of us gets ill and tests positive. I'll be bringing a number of test kits with us and will use them if we feel ill. We will also test before we leave for home. We have the luxury of being able to extend our sty for 5 days to quarantine if needed before we return. I won't return unless we both have a negative test. It sucks to have to plan vacations this way but the alternatives are spending more time at home wanting to travel a bit. There are definite risks to travel, especially to places like Orlando where there are concerns with health care availability, but after carefully weighing the risks, we have decided we are going.

We just got back from a one week trip. All 4 of us fully vaccinated and boosted. We wore N95 masks whenever indoors and most of the time outdoors (when in crowded areas). We washed our hands and sanitized often. Started feeling bad our last full day there. Tested the next day when we got home and sure enough it was positive. I feel like we took all the precautions possible and we all still caught covid.

We were there for 11 days over Christmas and NYE, so maximum crowds. We’re vaccinated and boosted and wore our masks outdoors in crowded areas. When we left, FL’s numbers were still looking ok, but then on Christmas Eve we saw the alert that Universal has reimposed its mask policy and were immediately like uh oh, that can’t be good. But we were already out there. Once we got home and the weekly report came out, we of course saw that Orange County’s positivity rate had jumped to over 30% while we were out there. We had decided before our trip that we would just assume exposure and be quarantining when we got home until a negative test result anyway, so that news didn’t really change anything for us. So we did all that and got a PCR test. I got a little nervous because I got slammed with allergies when I got back, but some of the symptoms overlap with omicron. Our tests both came back negative. But then the next day my fiancé started coughing and by that night he had bad chills. He’s on day 4 now of being completely bedridden. We went back to get another test once he got sick, and we’re still waiting on those results (they’re supposed to be coming in tonight). Because we live in FL, we drive to Orlando so didn’t have any airport exposure, and then since we’ve been quarantining since we’ve been home, sadly it will be pretty easy to source it to Disney if either of our tests come back negative. It will be a pretty delayed onset of symptoms, but we just haven’t been anywhere else since our trip.

hopefully it passes quickly! Our daughter is feeling fine today. So basically sick for three days. :thumbsup2

Well, I was supposed to leave this Thursday. NOPE, my son has covid. I spent last night on the phone with a wonderful reservation specialist, Rufina. She worked some serious magic and got us rebooked for President's Day weekend.

My husband had Covid at Christmas, which derailed ALL of our plans and our trip to my sister's in North Carolina. Now my son is sick. Going with the silver lining: I get to celebrate my birthday at Disney in February! Stay healthy folks!

Sorry to hear this. The same thing happened to my fully vaxxed/boosted husband and me. We were there from Christmas to New Years, and were super careful and masked outdoors as well as inside. We avoided attractions with long lines as well as theater shows except for Candlelight Processional, to which we wore our masks. Husband starting feeling sick 2 days after we returned home and we both tested positive on a rapid that day and then our pcr’s also came back positive a few days later. I was asymptomatic but he had a few pretty rough days. Omicron is so contagious - we’ve been very careful this whole pandemic, but still managed to catch it. I don’t regret going because most of our friends and family who got together over the holidays also caught covid, but Disney is definitely not “safer than going to the supermarket” anymore as it was early in the pandemic.

Coming back to confirm fiancé and I both got positive results. Luckily we’re boosted, young, and healthy, so I’m barely affected and he felt a little rough for a couple days but is starting to feel better now. So anyone on the fence about a Disney trip right now, based on these omicron anecdotes I would say when you’re weighing the risks just assume that you’ll get it and then figure out whether it’s worth it from there. And if it breaks your heart, think of it as a postponement instead (and maybe even schedule it that way so you can still see future plans on MDE!). Luckily it sounds like Disney is being very flexible for those who have already called to cancel/postpone. Congrats to the people who went recently and were able to dodge it…I have no clue how you did it!

I'm curious.... I see a lot of pp's here saying they masked etc but still came back positive.... were there any in that group who did indoor dining? Or flew on a plane? Just wondering about those two things.... (The last time I flew, I didn't remove my mask until I left the airport, not to eat or drink at all) I know it's all conjecture at this point.....

I canceled my birthday trip, 12/21. It was too near family Christmas and not enough time for a short quarantine.

We are re-scheduled to take the camper to FW the week of Feb 27. I am excited because the flower show begins March 2 and we are having a Vlogger scavenger hunt! No plans to visit attractions with packed queues or eating indoors. Fingers crossed that the COVID surge decreases by the beginning of March, like last year.

At least Disney has mask mandates! I rode a packed Gondola last week while skiing in Colorado and not everyone was wearing a mask. 🙄 I am boosted and still healthy!

Get boosted and wear a mask! Stay home if you're sick....

Ugh, sorry to hear you also caught it, with all the people coughing and sneezing around us, my husband kept saying we were definitely going to get it…I also have no clue how people there over the holidays dodged it unless they just stayed at their resort the whole time and only ate outside. I have a feeling there may be more people who caught it and are asymptomatic- I never would have known had I not gotten a test.

So, we did have a 2 hour direct flight and wore N95s and didn’t remove the masks from when we got to the airport until entering our hotel room. We did a lot of outdoor dining as a precaution, but did have a few indoor meals. Our tables were well distanced at each and we ate at off-peak hours. Kept masks on until food arrived and put back on as soon as finished eating. Obviously that was taking a risk but we didn’t realize just how catchy omicron was for vaxxed/boosted. We’ve done many Disney trips since covid, several before we were vaxxed (including last Christmas-New Years) and never caught it. It’s just so much more contagious.

I just made a few adjustments to our trip scheduled for the second week in February. I booked a rental car to avoid the busses as much as possible and also to be able to do curbside pickup for groceries as we are not going to eat anywhere indoors. We are going to watch the numbers and make a final decision the week before. It seems that if Omicron plays out the way it did in South Africa, once the numbers start to drop, they drop very quickly. Fingers crossed. I agree with other posters - this is a giant game of "cost-benefit analysis" and each person/family will have their own data points. I just hope that anyone who decides to go will also decide to follow the rules/protocols put in place, whether you agree with them or not.

This is our plan for a trip in February as well - keep monitoring, and take similar precautions if the trip happens as planned.

I am wondering if we'll need to postpone our May trip because we're coming from Canada and the current testing rules are so onerous, despite our trip being under 72 hours. I didn't have too many Omicron worries until reading this thread. I'm now wondering if we haven't heard more about people catching Covid in amusement parks just because most visitors are Americans who don't have to test to get home or test before they return to work etc. If they did test, would we find a bunch of asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic results?
Testing rules can and have changed in relatively quick fashion (both eased and tightened), but we'll have to make a final decision no later than 30 days before our trip because we need to pay for our package.
